How Old Were You When You Stopped Working In Fast Food

Is 32 too old to be working in fast food?

To those who mentioned about going to college and getting another job-- Go to your local fast "food" businesses. Ask how many of the employees are in college or have earned college degrees. While in grad school (which one cannot enter unless s/he has an undergrad degree from a four year college, my husband worked at a McDonald's. I would work at a fast "food" restaurant before I would work at a strip club. If we take the rental house we looked at yesterday, I would be within walking distances of a Burger King and a McDonald's. I might just work there for the ability to walk to work and the supposedly flexible hours and to just get out of the house for a few hours a week. I'm 35. I would just probably be the only employee who wouldn't eat any of the merchandise. (Except for maybe diet soda and coffee.)

ETA: My husband would be working part time at a church, utilizing his master's of divinity degree. We have a five-year-old (who is attending a private pre-school) and a two-year-old and school loans. He even said that if he had to, he'd work at a fast "food" restaurant again. (Also, we have qualified, and probably do again, for Medicaid and WIC, but do not use them.... Yet.)

I work at a fast food restaurant and I want to stop eating the food there. What should I do?

I’ve had this challenge in Restaurants that worked.I too got a ‘free’ meal. I couldn’t stand bringing food in but I did in another way. I had take-out delivered to the restaurant. My boss was super pissed but he couldn’t do anything about it except finally he wouldn’t allow the delivery guy in the restaurant. So I would tell the delivery guy to deliver at a certain time (my break was pretty punctual) and I met him out side.I couldn’t afford that every day so I made sure I ate a full meal at home before going to work. Next, I drank a lot of water or seltzer(carbonated water). For my free meal… the biggest salad I could make with as many different fruits and veggies I could get my hands on. At times , I got a piece of chicken or beef to add to the salad.Sometimes these salads were so good, I re-created them in other restaurants which proved to be financiaally successful! The key? Focus, will power and tenacity!

Is working a job in fast food not for everyone, or am I just incompetent?

I wouldn't say you're incompetent if you just started. However, if a year goes by and you still can't do the job, then the job may not be the right fit for you. When you work in fast food, you are really not working with the "cream of the crop" of employees. Most people working in fast food tend to only have high school education and no college degree. Generally, it is their first jobs and they are building up their resume. Other times, the employees are working dead end jobs and they are not motivated nor do they care about new employees. In short, take time to learn about your job and don't let them talk down to you. We all make mistakes and we can all learn from it. Don't let your coworkers blow it out of proportion when you make a mistake. Most of the time fast food jobs are only short term and there is a high turn over rate. Even though you are working at the lower end of retail job, you deserve to be treated with just as much respect and dignity as everyone else. Don't let anyone take that away from you. Use this experience to remind yourself why you should study hard and do well in school.I know this lawyer that I came in contact with and he told people he use to work in McDonalds cleaning toilets while attending law school. He said that was a humbling experience and it made him study hard and that's how he became a lawyer.

Is it embarrassing to work fast-food in your 30s?

I decided to go back to college at 33 yrs. old and my old job would not work with my schedule, so I'm in the market for a new one. My college is in a small town and without a degree, the only work options are retail, restaurants, and fast food. I've saturated the market with applications but no places are willing to give me 20 hrs./week (all I can do right now) and let me have mornings off for classes. My last option is fast food, but I am self-conscious about working at one due to my age. I don't judge people myself, but I am insecure about -being- judged. Should I even care?

Anyone pregnant and working in fast food?

I just got a job at McDonald's just for some extra cash. It will be for a new store opening, next month. I will be 4 months pregnant when I start. When I went for the interview yesterday I didn't tell them I was pregnant. I would really like to work full time if I can, until my c-section date. But then I started worrying about getting bigger and if it will even be possible and safe. So anyone work in fast food through out there whole pregnancy? How did it go, any complications? And when should I tell them I am pregnant? I am hoping to wait until June, by that time I will be 6 months pregnant, is there a time limit on telling them?
