How Power Is Shared In A Democracy

How can power be shared in Indian democracy?

In Democracy, power is conferred based on the collective decision of the people. There should be two way communication between the citizens and the government to ensure the process runs smooth. But in the present day, there is lack of communication due to lack of citizen awareness and lack of platforms for meaningful contribution. The youth of the nation came together and launched “National Agenda Forum” (NAF). The aim of the forum is to provide opportunities for the meaningful citizen contribution by giving them opportunity to set the agenda for the upcoming general elections, 2019. How is power divided in direct democracy?

Direct democracy is not practical because:a. There are too many peopleb. Its still an extortion racket. It would actually be worse because business people would not be able to 'buy votes' for reasonable policy, along with the dubious vested interests that are elevated by the left. The trick is to depart from majoritivism, because legalised extortion is worse than your backyard gang bang. After all, you expect justice from govt, not institutionalisation of injustice.

Why and how is power shared in democracies?

Power is shared among the democracies so that every section of the democracy can do it's work accordingly without any pressure of the other section. Our government is divided into judiciary, executive and legislature. Making laws and implementation of laws are done by these sections.

What's your opinion on democracy?

A true democracy tends to oppress minorities but a representative democracy such as the one we have in the US is a very good system. In a true democracy the majority would vote for their interest and due to their greater numbers the minority would have no say. Being a representative democracy, and a nation of laws rather than men we can reasonable expect very real justice.

Is Power Sharing desirable in a democracy?

Thanks for asking Aryan. The complete edifice of democracy is based on sharing of the power - from the way I look at it. Now is it needed and can the spirit of democracy be evolved with sharing of the power - I don't think it is possible. One problem is there in democracy - only RICH ( be it RICH by wealth, or be it RICH by knowledge or be it RICH by followership ) get to decide for the entire population. That way the decisions always favor RICH and appears very capitalistic. Some how I never liked that. I always believe - we need to earn our food ! Not that we should live on our parents wealth or other's hardship. Where as democracy actually protects that inverse interest of the same. Any way - there is nothing much that can be done' about it. As majority always wins not only in Democracy but every where !If we have to look at the power and implications - power is most a subjective time. To me appears it is that element of RICHness - by wealth, knowledge or followership.. People are successfully manipulating the democratic governance through those. And Governance in a way is kept amenable for the RICH.. Summary - is POWER SHARING needed - yes, that way there is a spread.  But still I don't know if that model is completely successful in helping the cause of Democracy ! May be with technology and other means - we need to revamp the models of Democracy as well - so the POWER SHARING is much more LOGICALLY and STATISTICALLY even, which is not the case today !

Why is power sharing desirable?

It reduces conflict between different social groups as all of them get equal opportunities in society. It ensures political stability in the country .Suppressing minority by majority or vice versa (rare cases) is against the spirit of dempcracy which believes in eqality between people.Social conflicts between social grps due to no power sharing not only damages the progress of the country but also damages both the minority and majority in the country.

What is the meaning of "a democratic rule involves sharing power with those affected by its exercise, and those who have to live with its effects"?

Let's break it down.…sharing power…Means the power is not vested in one individual but shared. Shared between who?…with those affected by its exercise…Who is affected by the exercise of power on the national level? Everyone. Therefore the same people are……those who have to live with its effects. So in short, it means a democratic rule shares the power to all those affected by that power. For instance, in India, democratic rule exists. Everyone has power (the power to vote), and everyone is affected by the power as well (I mean, we are suffering under whatever political party we elect, but we gotta live with it). That's at least what I think it means. If anybody wants to improve on my answer or wants to scrap it, please by all means leave a comment.
