How Should I Take Care Of My Ear After Getting A Piercing

Can you swim after getting your ears pierced?

If it were a chlorinated pool, I'd say great! Chlorinated water is actually great at cleaning wounds, and therefore would be nice on your ears. Lakes, on the other hand, are a bit dirtier, but I don't think it will be a problem. Just keep using the solution they probably gave you to clean your ears with, and if you don't have any of that you can use rubbing alcohol. But think of it this way...would having a small cut on your leg stop you from swimming? Probably not. Ear piercings are pretty minor as far as wounds go, so swim on!

How long after a cartilage ear piercing should you wait until you wash your hair?

You can wash your hair after you get it if you want. Just be sure to clean it after you get finished.

How long do I have to wait after getting my ears pierced till I can start gauging them?

You need to wait at LEAST two months before you begin stretching your piercings. You stretch (not gauge) a piercing, since you're physically stretching the tissue out. People who call it otherwise have been misinformed and are simply following what they've heard other people say.

You need to wait this long (or longer) because you need the fistula of your piercing to develop fully. A fistula is the tube of skin that forms inside of most piercings. This skin stretches along with the rest of your lobe. If you try to stretch it too soon, it will tear and form scars which make later stretching and closure more difficult. Tearing your piercing also leaves you more vulnerable to infection.

Once you've started stretching, you need to take your time. At least a month between stretches will reduce your risk of tearing your lobes. If a stretch does not go easily, then your ears need more time. This is especially true as you get larger. As you go up the jewelry sizes, the difference between sizes gets larger. So a 14 to a 12 is a much smaller stretch than a 6 to a 4. This is why it is SO essential to take your time stretching.

And as for the smell another poster mentioned, that white goo is shed skin cells and oil. To get rid of it and the accompanying smell, wash the area regularly. You wouldn't expect your armpits to smell fresh if they never got washed. The skin inside your ear piercings is just the same. Cleaning with a little bit of low-fragrance (and anti-bacterial if you prefer) soap will get rid of that funk. Cleaning at least every few days will keep it gone.

Can I change my earrings 4 weeks after piercing?

There is a reason the standard is six weeks. That reason is, that nearly all earlobes have the tissue density and type to heal properly in that amount of time, and nearly all bodies have the correct healing response to do likewise. That said, I have seen people for whom 6 weeks is not enough. It stands to reason that there are certainly people for whom less than six weeks is adequate. But, there's no way to know into which group you fall, unless you've tried before with a piercing, and it didn't work out. While you might be fine after 4 weeks, it is far more advisable you wait the whole six.

How should I shower with a new cartilage piercing?

I try not to get soap or shampoo on my piercing when in the shower. i also try not to get direct spray on them either when they are new or for the first month. when in the shower I try to make sure that each of my piercings are clean and then I move each ring accordingly. I have a total of 14 piercings on both ears and each piercing has a CBR(captive bead ring) in. in the shower once cleaned I move the ring so that the bead travels from front to back twice and also up and down, I’ve found that the water acts as a lubricant and helps the rings to move easier and heal the piercing faster too.Currently I’m in the process of stretching all my piercings so that i can wear custom jewellery. In the last 3–4 months i have stretched my ear piercings from 16 to 10 gauge. I will be stopping my stretching at either 6 or 4 gauge (gauge will be the largest size I got to as i want all piercings to be the same size for ease of shopping later)

How long does it take for ear piercings to heal?

If you have your ear lobes pierced by a professional and high quality jewelry of an appropriate size, style, and material is inserted, and you care for them properly[1], the average healing time range is 4–6 weeks.Since human bodies vary, it could take longer. I would not consider any piercing to be fully healed sooner than four weeks. This initial healing time is when a piercing is an open wound, and the jewelry must be left in and the wound treated gently and hygienically. After initial healing, the tissue has sealed and the piercing is no longer an open wound, but it is more delicate than a piercing that has settled and been worn for much longer. If mistreated, (jewelry that is too heavy is worn, or through other trauma) a recently healed piercing could easily become an open wound again.Having your ears pierced with a gun would certainly not heal any faster, and due to additional risks, this is an unadvisable[2]method for piercing. Of course, having a friend do it for you is also quite risky and not suggested!Ear cartilage takes significantly longer to heal.Footnotes[1] Piercing Aftercare[2] Association of Professional Piercers

How do you care for newly pierced ears?

Try to wear gold earring as the metal would reduce the chances of infection. You can try moving the earrings so that there is proper air circulation and the scar will easily heal. You can try a home remedy, heat some mustard oil and add a pinch of turmeric in it. Apply this on the scar . Warm oil will give a soothing effect and turmeric has anti bacterial properties.
