How many (private) tutors are in the US? Are there a market research or estimated numbers for different states?

Private tutoring is a part of the shadow education system, as it is offered outside the mainstream education system. The private tutoring industry has emerged following the extensive standardization of the education sector. This standardization essentially refers to the provision of examination preparation services to students to help them score well in entrance tests. Traditionally, private tutoring service providers employed the classroom teaching methods. However, advances in technology and growing awareness among consumers about modern methods of learning have necessitated the incorporation of the Internet and digital methods into the teaching process. The private tutoring market in China to grow at a CAGR of 11.31% during the period 2017-2021.Download PDF For More Information

How big is the math tutoring market in the US?

Short answer:  huge and growing. As the public school curricula in the U.S. has increasingly focused upon multiple-choice testing -- with its emphasis on memorized formulae and regurgitation of overly brief answers and rote definitions -- frustrated students are tuning out and turning off in the classroom.  Parents who can afford it are seeking private tutors to motivate students on a one-to-one basis, convey meaningful concepts (which they readily and eagerly absorb!), and evaluate true understanding by the student (adapting to the individual, as necessary). The jury is still out on the latest politically-driven upheaval known as "Common Core" but, so far, it seems to be making things even worse.  Another culprit is reliance upon the calculator which, rather than being a mere crutch, too often precedes and becomes a substitute for conceptual understanding -- which is then delayed or never achieved.

How much should I charge for AP calculus tutoring?

I just took AP calculus last year (I'm entering my senior year of high school). I tutored Algebra 2 all year for $20/hour, but I'm looking for a bit more money. I got As both semesters in Calc (98% overall first semester, 99% overall second semester), and a 5 on the AP exam. I'll be taking Calc 2, 3, and 4 respectively in the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters at my local community college. With these qualifications, along with the fact that I got plenty of business charging $20/hour for Algebra 2, would $30/hour be reasonable? I'd be tutoring mostly other high school seniors. Also, I would only be doing 1 hour long sessions either once or twice per week per person.

What is the market rate for a private LSAT/GRE tutoring?

This can vary depending upon the instructor… in the LSAT it can start from as low as $20 an hour to $150 - 800 + for elite instructors like Jonathan Wang, J.Y. Ping and Nathan Fox. I am guessing that for GRE things would likely be the same. You need to build a reputation for yourself before you enter the market. The best way to get word out is to work for a company for some time… create your own LSAT blog/website and take it from there… it will be hard work… but you will be able to do this. Graeme Blake runs a successful LSAT coaching practice and will be able to guide you about how to go building your business. How big is the private tutoring market in Argentina?

If by private tutoring you mean private schools you should know that they are a huge thing in Argentina.Since the 1950's private institutions have provided billingual education to thousands of Argentines in Buenos Aires, Cordoba and many other cities. Most of these schools carry the name of Saints. This is the case of Saint Andrew's which is the first and oldest Scottish school. Other Schools include Northlands and Saint John's.These schools were originally located in the richest neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires. Nowadays they have relocated to less expensive areas where they bought bigger estates to build larger campuses. These schools traditionally focused on preparing the students for exams such as PET, IGCS and International Baccalaureate (IB). Irish, Scottish and English values where the base for the educational system. Rugby was the prefered sport, developing the spirit of team players.Harry Potter style Houses competitions where a common thing among students which were awarded the shield or house colors depending on their elder brothers or parents that had attended school before them. These schools are laic and accept students of every religion and ethnicity. Tuitions are expensive and only the richest families in Argentina can afford to send their kids to these schools. Though not common, scholarships are not  impossible to get.If during the past these schools were related to Anglo-American values and education, in which money was not an issue to accept students, there is some controversy today in which many people claim they are magnet for "new-rich" vulgar people who are attracted to these schools just to look fancy.

Alternative ways to get into the electronics industry?

Hello and I appreciate your time for reading this and answering it.

Basically I have been trying to get a career in the electronics industry for about 8 years now. I started out Doing electrical engineering at university and failed the maths subjects a few times and got removed from the degree. After the first failures I spent about $1500 on private tuition, exam techniques and maths courses and always did alright in math based assignments but always failed exams horribly.

So after some professional advice I was convinced that I was not suited to Engineering and tried to pursue a career as an electrician but it was hard to get an apprenticeship without doing a course in it first. I registered for the course and attempted the suitability test 3 times and got letters back each time saying that I was not suitable for the course.

After a 4 -5 years working in various types of jobs in the private sector and government trying my hand at other stuff I find myself very unsatisfied with my job and really want a career in electronics. I did as much revision for the suitability test as I possibly could and attempted it again a few months ago and got a letter telling my score was not high enough again to be considered for the certificate in electro-technology.

I consider myself quite skilled in some area's of electronics such as soldering I have modded a lot consoles and repaired them as well.

So my question stands I really want to be an engineer or at least a sparky is there any other ways to get into this industry preferably without exams or tests?

Well, according to quick search, the only good source of information I found is this:Рынок коммерческого изучения иностранных языков в России. Отчет по результатам маркетингового исследования школ и курсов инязIt's a market report on the private language tutoring, made by some company.Unfortunately it's quite old (made in 2008) and even worse it's not for free.Fortunately the have a free sample version (if you're intrested, you can download it where they say "Демо-версия:                                              Скачать                        (pdf)"According to that sample report they estimated that the size of that market is 24.2 billion rubles in 2008 (it was roughly 1 billion USD in 2008).1) Of course a lot has changed since that time2) They focused on private tutoring centers, but, of course, there is quite a lot of people who work as tutors as freelancersBut still this report is quite intresting, as they gave some information on what languages these centers are teaching, some information on prices per hour, etc.
