How Strict Is Air China About Carry-on Weight Limit

Can i carry guitar on China Airlines flight as a carry on?

You can carry a guitar (in its case) as a SINGLE piece of cabin baggage provided it will fit in the overhead storage compartment. If it fits, you get no additional pieces of cabin baggage. If you check the guitar as one of your allowed pieces of checked baggage, then you may get one additional piece of luggage free, subject to China Airlines free checked baggage policy. (it all depends whether China Airlines uses the weight concept or the piece concept on the flights you plan to take). It may be wisest to have one piece of cabin baggage, the maximum allotment of free checked baggage, and then arrange to have your guitar (in its case) sent with you as Air Cargo. If your guitar is fairly light then the cost will be minimal compared to paying excess baggage charges.

I know there's a size limit but is there a weight limit for carry on luggage?

This varies by airline. In the United States, most airlines do not have weight limits for carry-on baggage. Here is what I found as of February 2019 for some of the major US airlines:United, American, Spirit, Southwest, Alaska, and Allegiant don’t list a weight limit.Delta has no weight limit except for flights to Singapore (15 lb/7 kg), Beijing (22 lb/10 kg), and Shanghai (also 22 lb/10 kg).Frontier has a weight limit of 35 lb (15 kg).Airlines from other countries often do have a weight limit. I can’t possibly list them all, but here are some examples (one from each continent):British Airways: 23 kg (51 lb), and you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead bin by yourself.Air China: 5 kg (11 lb) in economy class, or 8 kg (17 lb) in first or business class.Air India: 8 kg (17 lb), or 5 kg (11 lb) for flights operated by Alliance Air.Kenya Airways: total weight 12 kg (26 lb) including your hand luggage and “accessories” (personal items)Qantas: 7 kg (15 lb)Aeromexico: 10 kg (22 lb) total in economy, 18 kg (39 lb) in first class. The overhead bin itself also has a weight limit, but it’s usually pretty high. For example, this bin, on an Aeroflot Sukhoi SSJ100, has a weight limit of 48 kg (105 lb).Photo by Marat Gizatulin via Flickr. Also, unless you are disabled, you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead bin by yourself, without dropping it on anyone’s head. Flight attendants are not required to help you lift your bag into the bin.

Are airlines strict with baggage overweight by a few pounds?

If it is the carry-on then you may be okay, but don't take my word for it. Usually carry-on luggage is not weighed at all, but if they think it LOOKS heavy or the bag is the maximum dimensions than they may weigh it. The trick here is to pretend like it weighs nothing at all...then you may get by

How strictly does Wizz Air enforce carry-on luggage size?

When I flew on Wizz Air, they did not check anyone’s baggage strictly. This was from a flight from London to Prague. I did buy the larger baggage option prior to my flight just in case, but found it to be unnecessary when I checked in. My bag was much larger than their guidelines, but no one asked me or made me test anything. However, I cannot say this would be true for all flights on Wizz Air.I am answering my own questions since I don’t see any other first-hand experience answers about this question.

Are the weight restrictions on carry-on baggage strictly enforced on Air China or China Eastern Airlines?

I've flown all over America and Europe, but this will be my first time in Asia. I noticed that they have a 11lbs weight restriction even on their carry-on baggage in addition to size restrictions. I already blew my budget on this trip and don't want to buy a new carry-on. Will they actually weigh my carry-on at the gate? It's smaller than the max size restrictions by a few inches, but empty it is already 8lbs (solid little guy that withstood years and years of travel). It will probably hit 15-20lbs. If I have no issues picking it up and placing it in the overhead bins, and since it is smaller than the max size allowed, do you think I will have an issue? Or should I play it safe and by a flimsy, light weight bag for this trip? I fly from Japan to China, and then I have one domestic flight in China, so there will be two occasions that I need to avoid having my bag weighed.

How strict is Spirit Airlines on the free personal item?

Spirit airlines offers a free personal item and the dimensions are 16x14x12. I have a backpack that is 18x12x9, but I can push the top down to make it 16x12x9. If my bag doesn't fit in box, it's a $100 fee at the gate to make it a carryon, and I'm not about to drop $100 because my bag was over by like an inch. Anyone that has flown Spirit before, how strict are they on this? I'm flying into O'Hare (ORD) if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Hainan Air over weight baggage question~ Flight from Guangzhou to Taipei?

I'm making a one way flight from Guangzhou to Taipei in a week, and I was told by Hainan air the name only permitted 44 pounds or 20 kilos of combined stowed luggage for the flight and one carry bag. Problem is that in total I have for bags, two suitcases (when I arrived in China weighed in at something like 35 kilos) one duffel bag and my laptop (which for obvious reasons will not be checked regardless Hainan's desires).

Since they have such ridiculously low weight limit between China and Taiwan I'm looking at having to pay extra limit excess baggage weight, but their website doesn't offer the fees for flights between China and Taiwan they only have fees U.S. and Canada. Does anyone have experience with Hainan airlines that knows anything about carrying over week items in their fees?

Otherwise I am looking at mailing something to Taiwan and I don't have much faith in the delivery times off the China Post. Mailed something back to the US (just a small 2kg box with some gifts from my gf) and it took a month to get there even using express airmail. I thought about using FedEx but this service is way too expensive. For just one suitcase it would cost 600 U.S. dollars. This is not a viable option because my ticket only cost 150 U.S. dollars.
