How Strict Is The Background Check For A Concealed Carry Permit

Do you need a license or permit to carry a “concealed weapon”?? Where would you get one?

In my state, yes, you do need a license/permit to carry a gun, whether it is concealed or not.

Different states have different laws. Check the laws in your state by contacting a local gun range.

I went to our local gun range and took a NRA course on how to handle, use, store and clean a weapon. After the written test, shooting a gun in the range, going through a background check with the FBI through being finger printed at my local police department and waiting 30 days, I have a permit to carry a weapon. Renewable for $70.00 every five years.

Background Checks firearm background check V's CCW permit background check?

Me and a friend are arguing about this..... My Friend has been wanting to get a CCW Permit to carry Concealed. he said that the same Background check to buy a gun, is the same background check to get your CCW Permit.
I beg to differ, i say that the check for CCW Permit is A ( NCIC ) Background check Which includes much more information about the person in question....
Oh Yeah, This is In ( OHIO )
Could someone please elaborate on this so that we can put this arguement to rest.???
Thanks for your time

What does concealed carry permit mean?

Lime Green and I actually live in Fla and seem to be the only ones that actually have a clue here.

Fl;a's permit is a concealed weapons permit, it allows you to carry concealed, that's all. If it is on your person you need a permit, that includes in a bag

You do not need any permit to carry a LOADED or unloaded gun in your car. A hnadgun must be securely encased. In a snapped holster, in a zippered bag, in a box with a lid, or in the glove box, and not readily available.

There is no law on where you carry a long gun, loaded or not

My favorite carry method is a loose fitting over shirt, like a Hawaiian shirt, over a T shirt with an IWB holster at 4 o clock. I have also carry in a Bianchi Executive shoulder holsrer with the same clothes. Pocket carry in a pair of Docker type pants also works as well as a wallet type holster for the sub compact 380's.

Open carry is only allowed if you are actively participating in fishing or hunting, and I believe camping but I may be wrong on that.
there is no open carry, but the laws were recently updated to make inadvertent and accidental flashing of the gun a non criminal offense.
Printing is not open carry. Open carry is if the average person can determine that you are carrying.by casual observance.
You know those little .22s that can be carried in a belt buckle, that has been deemed to not be open carry

It is true that there is no duty to inform here, but the first question the cop is going to ask you if you have any weapons. You had better inform at that point.

Please Please do not listen to Staap. There is absolutely no mandate that you fire a gun just because you have drawn it. You should not draw unless death or bodily injury is imminent, but that does not mean that you have to fire if drawing de-escalates the situation. I have drawn my gun twice and held someone at gun point once with no charges or even threat of charges against me. It happens all the time

Please don't listen to the commandoes and end up like Zuimmerman

Do licensed gun sellers do background checks?

Background checks are done using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Licensed Dealers (Federal Firearms License holders, FFL’s) are required to submit a NICS questionaire completed by the purchaser to the FBI for approval. It is an electronic submission and check. States have different systems, all based on NICS. They may require additional items. For example, Virginia requires a second form, similar to the NICS questionaire to be submitted to the State Police. Before an FFL transfers the firearm to you, they will submit your information for a background check.

How do I get a gun permit and a concealed handgun permit in NC?

Michael is wrong. NC is pretty gun friendly. I have had a NC concealed carry from the the first year they issued them. Before that I carried in FL for almost 7 years. I have had to use my weapon once (in Winston Salem). A Black guy tried to rob me one night at gun point. He didn't have any luck. The police were there within about 3 mins. I showed them my ID and carry permit, they ran the numbers on my pistol (to make sure it wasn't stolen) and did their investigation. They didn't give me one single tiny piece of crap. Not one. One of the older cops told me "You do what you have to do."

Go on down to your local sheriff's office. There you will get the application for Permits to Purchase handguns. I haven't had to get one in years but they used to run about $5 each and you could get up to 3 at a time. You filled out some paperwork, turned it in and they called you back a week or two later after doing all the checks and you went down and picked them up. In NC you need to give a permit to anyone you are buying a handgun to.

Getting a Concealed Carry Permit is a bit more difficult (but not much) and more expensive. There are more forms and background checks, finger prints to take, letters to mail, and of course you have to take a Concealed Carry Course. The permits cost and the courses cost. Probably going to run you in the range of $250 or so. Shop around for the class.

Take a little time and gather as much info as you can before you start dropping big bucks all over the place. First thing to get started on is to go ahead and get your Permits to Purchase. Might as well get the 3.

The big decision will be what kind of pistol you want. Believe me there will be no shortage of advice around here. But it is something you will need to decide.

BTW: Once you have your Concealed Carry Permit you will no longer need to get Permits to Purchase from the Sheriff. Your permit allows you to buy a gun (handgun, rifle and shotgun) from a dealer with no background checks and no waiting periods (I believe 3 days in the case of handguns). You still have to fill out the yellow Form 4473.

Start youself a folder and get to work. It's a meticulous process and you want to keep it all together.

Good Luck.

Oh, I usually carry a Springfield XD 9mm subcompact.

Can you obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon online in pennsylvania?

@WC has no clue. VA and PA (and i believe most states) do not require fingerprinting. Utah does, but that is one of the reasons that Utah's CCW permit has the highest reciprocity rate..

Depending on the county you live in it PA, you may need to submit the form in person, but generally you can submit it by mail.

Do I need a concealed carry permit to own a firearm in Florida? In other words, once I pass my background check, can I own a firearm without the need of a concealed carry permit?

No permit is required to own either a handgun or long gun in Florida. Florida does impose a 3 day waiting period on handgun purchases. Holders of valid Florida concealed carry permits are exempt from this waiting period. There is no requirement to register any firearm in Florida or for a firearm owner to obtain a permit or license to own a firearm. Florida is a “shall issue” state with regard to concealed carry permits: that is, a carry permit must be issued for any lawful purpose unless the applicant is a prohibited person. Open carry of any firearm is illegal in Florida.

Can a permanent resident get a concealed carry permit in the US?

Another anonymous question. Assuming you are old enough and would have no problem on the background check and can pass your states requirements for a concealed carry permit. You can look at Concealed Carry Permit Information By State (Updated July 2018) for a general idea if you can get one in the state you are in, may issue states you have to have a reason the county sheriff accepts and in some counties no reason is good enough.

Do police officer automatically have concealed carry permits while off duty or do they have to get a license like everyone else?

A concealed carry permit shows that someone has undergone an FBI background check and a basic firearms training course.Police officers have much more intense firearms training and pass much stricter background checks before they are made police. That’s like requiring certified auto mechanics to go to a class on how to change oil.Police automatically get a permit that is valid in New Jersey and Hawaii.
