It's definitely the app that has racked up the most phone-time for me over the last few years and I'm very satisfied with the 1000s of words it thinks I've learned in that time. However it's very much a recognition thing, which can get confusing with similar characters, and is useless if you want to write. So, strike 2...AnkiThis is far and away the best flashcard system simply because of the customisation potential. For HSK there are loads of sets already custom-made, but you can tweak them a bit. I'm currently trying to learn the most common 3,000 characters, and the set I'm using (Most Common 3000 Hanzi) even includes the stroke-order diagrams. It comes with a whiteboard build-in and is definitely the best way to do writing. It makes reading a lot more in-depth too, especially if you're interested in alternative characters and traditional derivations. How to use them all?
