Banana Republic?

My Dad buys all of his clothes at Banana Republic, and Sears. What is your opinion on Banana Republic for young men and women (ages 15 - 18)? What do you think when you see people wearing Banana Republic clothes?
I wear only some from there but my Father wants me to wear more Banana Republic clothes (???). I wear mainly American Eagle, Nike, etc.
Thnx I'll choose best answer.

Do banana republic hire black people?

the one by me does, ive seen several black people working there.

and also, its in the rules and regulations of pretty much every store in america that they cant discriminate against you based on race, so if your qualified, you have a pretty good shot.

Banana republic clothing store job??

Yes, you should go!! I am 19 and I work there. The only reason age matters if you are working with vehicles are dangerous equipment. For example, when I worked at Quiznos the law required employees to be 16 because the job require using knives and an oven Also, you were required to be 18 to use the meat slicer. I can not see why Banana Republic would require you to be 18 or over, so you should still try if you really want the job. Most of the people I work with are in their early 20's but there are also a couple older women working there as well. I am the youngest at 19 (as far as I know). They might also look more highly upon young professional to represent their clothing, since that is the type of clothing they sell. So, if you want to fit in dress in business casual and you will fit right in. No one will even know you are so young. Basically, if you present yourself in a mature and professional manner you will look the part. I really don't think you have to be a certain age to work there.. especially as Sales. I am Sales, and all I do is sale clothes and help people. I don't deal with any sharp objects or money. Good Luck.

P.S. If you really want to stand out and appear professional, take in a cover letter and resume. Here are some examples to get you started with a cover letter:

http://www.career.vt.edu/JOBSEARC/coversamples.htm (Scroll down a little until you see "Samples" and there is a perfect cover letter formal example on this one.)
http://www.jobbankusa.com/resumes/cover_letters_free_samples/examples_templates_formats/hotel_gift_shop_sales_associate.html (This one really helped me with a good idea for my cover letter than I wrote for my job at Banana. It was written by a lady trying to get a job in a gift shop, but if you change it around a little it will work for a sales associate and Banana too! My manager loved my cover letter when I went in for my interview.)

Also, if you don't have a resume yet, go to Monster.com and you can put in all your info and it will transfer your resume to a word document where you can print it.

What does "banana republic is having an open house for job oportunitiies ?

I once went to an open house type deal for the Coffee Bean. It was held in a conference type room at a hotel/restaurant. Basically, I went in and there were a bunch of people from management and corporate who travel around holding open houses for hiring. I went in and signed up and then went around to a couple tables talking to different people from the company. It was basically a casual on the spot interview. They also talked about the job and the company. I didn't get a call back from it, so I don't know if they called back for second more personal interviews or not.

Banana Republic/ Gap/ Old Navy Job Application Help?

Do you have a nice skirt and top you could wear to turn in the application? That would be nice without overdoing it with a pants suit. Also, when you do turn it in, try asking for the manager so you can hand it directly to him/her.

If you do get the interview, you should where a pants suit or a professional skirt and top (no short skirt) with neutral colors (black, brown, grey, etc.).

As long as you have customer service experience, you have a good chance of getting the job. You just need to convey how much you want the job and how good you would be at it in your interview.

Position desired- yes it would be called a Sales Associate.

Why are you interested in working for the company?
- Try doing some research on Banana Republic and simply say why you admire them as a clothing store, possibly stating why you think they have an advantage over other clothing stores.

What strengths would you bring to our company?
- You already stated an answer to this- you are friendly and professional and have plenty of customer service experience. Maybe you could fit in an accomplishment at one of your old jobs to convey this.

What didn't you like about your previous job?
- Careful here, this is kind of a trap question. Don't say anything negative about your job or your previous employers. Just say that there wasn't anything you didn't like about it, you just wanted to branch out and learn more about the world of retail or something like that.

Hope this helps and good luck!!!

For Banana Republic and similar retail brands, how long after the interview do you have to wait until they call you?

They usually run a background check and call you after that. If they are hiring to several positions they are likely waiting until they have a group of people they want to hire and set up for orientation. You’ll like hear back within a week.

What is the etymology of the phrase 'banana republic'?

Surprisingly, perhaps, given Wikipedia's attribution to O Henry (William Sydney Porter) from a book published in 1904 [1], the Oxford English Dictionary's earliest citation for "banana republic" in its strict sense of "a small state, esp. in central America, whose economy is almost entirely dependent on its fruit-exporting trade" is from an Esquire magazine feature published in 1936. The novelist, journalist and writer Arthur Koestler uses the phrase in a similar sense in his 1949 study Promise and Fulfilment. Palestine, 1917-1949.  If the above uses are indeed fairly literal, there's a possible link from its more generalised and pejorative modern sense to the early 20th century US slang use of "banana" for "a stupid or worthless person, a simpleton" which Jonathon Green includes in his Chambers Slang Dictionary. Green's suggestion that the intended reference is to the softness of a banana could apply equally well to a nation state or economy which is weak, inefficient, ineffective and/or corrupt.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ban...

Does banana republic only hire good looking people?

I work for a Banana Republic factory store, the main thing we look for is professional attitude and attire. Yes technically hiring only good looking people would be against the law, however in general good looking people tend to have greater confidence levels, allowing them to succeed in interview situations. If your looking to get a job at Banana I would suggest wearing a suit to the interview, black is always a safe bet. Remember confidence and professionalism are more important than good looks.

Banana Republic and Old Navy age requirement/pay?

Currently, I am employed at Sears, and I hate it and want another place to work. I really like all of the Gap, Inc. stores, and I know that you must be 18 to work at GAP. How old do you have to be to work at Banana Republic and/or Old Navy? How much is the pay at each store if you've had about a year of retail experience? I am just wondering and would love to find out. Thanks so much!
