How To Audition For An Acting Role To Get Famous.

Do famous actors have to audition for film roles or do they get approached?

Amazing as it may seem, the answer is still: Yes, they do.Only very rarely does a star name make it without the need of this procedure, and that’s when either a producer or director knows him or her intimately and knows he or she can carry a certain role. But in general, every actor and every actress, be it a star or a newcomer, must go through it.The reason for this is mainly that the casting director or others, sitting in the audition room want to make certain that they choose the appropriate talent for a role they have in mind. For the actor or the actress involved in this procedure, it should be a flattering experience, since, unless it is an open call audition, they have already been selected among many others and therefore have a fair chance to display their full spectrum of experience and should consider it as a legitimate performance.Even though many think that auditions bring nothing, it is not always the case, and quite contrary to public notion, they do give an actor the chance to be known by some influential individuals in the business. There are times in which a rejection today, may lead to a summary inclusion in another, more suitable project for the actor or actress who went through a previous audition. One never knows in advance, but there are indeed times, in which actors have found out that by going to auditions and having been rejected from those projects have led them to another kind of audition in which they ultimately even landed the lead role. So, by no means underestimate the value of an audition. An audition is nothing less than an unpaid performance, but also a chance to be known by true professional people in the business. It is up to the individual though, to make the best out of it, and let’s be completely frank: experience comes through exercise. But most of all, it is your exposure to the process that will, in the end, make you known as a serious performer.

Do professional actors still audition?

A2A.Sure they do. You’ve already got some excellent answers here, I’ll just add a little context. There are levels to this. As others have already stated, there are professional actors and then there are A-listers. Professional actors could be defined as anyone who consistently earns money from acting. It could also be defined as those whose sole means of support is their acting income, but that would narrow the field considerably. There are thousands upon thousands of actors, and not enough jobs for all of them. Let alone paying jobs. Let alone well-paying jobs. Consequently, many professional actors need to supplement their acting income with something else. Some do so with work that is closely related to their acting careers, others do so with things that are not related at all (well, if you’re an actor everything is kind of related, but that’s another answer for another question). At the A-List level, Rebecca, Alex, and William have addressed it pretty well in their answers, so I’ll refer you to them. But like I said, there are levels to this. Sure, an A-lister can make or break a project budget, but the actor doesn’t have to be A-list for that to be the case. A colleague of mine is in talks with several major studios about his sci-fi series. One reason he is able to meet with these studios is because of names he has attached (and has already shot the pilot with). None of them are A-listers, but they are very well-known to sci-fi fans. They are known from shows like Star Trek (TNG, Voyager, and DS9), Battlestar Gallactica, etc. So what my colleague did was he approached these specific actors (either directly or through their reps, depending on the relationship he already had with them) for specific roles in the series. The rest of the roles were filled through auditions. But this is not the norm for these actors. They aren’t waking up each day to a barrage of offers. They’re waking up each day to (hopefully) a few audition notices. And they’re going to those auditions. And they’re often not getting cast. Pretty much the same thing I do.Smart actors are also creating their own projects, and casting themselves and their colleagues. So in that sense, any actor can get a role without an audition. But for most of us auditions are a way of life, and will be for the entirety of our careers.
