Using Game testing to see if you want a career as a game designer before spending the cash for the degree is the right way to go about it. You build the experience you need to land a game design position. It is good to know what working in the industry is like too. Keep perfecting and refining until you get the position. To increase your chances of getting a career game testing position... become familiar with what game testing is, terminology, etc and use the terminology to build out a good cover letter and resume. Get some good experience and be able to talk about what you did in with the knowledge and terminology you have learned about Game Testing.

How to become a video game tester..for real!?
i want to learn how to become a video game tester.. I've searched online and all i can find are ridiculous sites that are just rip offs.. also can you go to school to be a video game tester?? i really need some information, this is something I've always wanted to do.. I've also tried looking on job websites like monster.com and everything and nothing shows up on there. i also live in Pennsylvania and i'm afraid that theres nothing in the video game industry for me here.. if anyone can give me information on how to become an actual 100% legit video game tester i would really appreciate it..
How does one become a video game tester.?
So ok I'm 17, and live in Indiana. I have checked out the sites of companies such as EA, Activision, etc. The thing is all of the video game testing jobs are in states like florida and california. Do I have to live in those states to test the games? I don't see why I should. And if I did apply what kind of details would I put on my resume? Do I need past job experience or anything like that? I've always had a life-long passion to become a video game DESIGNER. But since that job is a bit higher up, I was thinking that I should start lower and work my way up. I have taken 3 digital art classes (Photoshop/Illustrator,3DS Max, CAD) in high school and I'm planning on going to more in college. How do 16 year olds get jobs online to test video games? Strange things happen in life. Do not give up on your dream, if this is something you really want to do. Do not listen to negitive comments, telling you it won't happen. I know a 16 year old who went on to write a game engine. While he isn't that old now ,the fact is you just have to do it. Make goals and do it. It sounds like your on the right path. Keep going online and look up all the game engine site. As many as you can find. NuclearGlory, Dark Basic, BlitzBasic, Game Dev. When I retire I'm gonna create my own game company. Use some of my retirement money and make video games full time instead of part time, like I been doing. If you still haven't become a beta tester by then I'll hire you.
