How To Blow Dry Your Hair Straight

How do you blow-dry your frizzy hair straight?

How do you blow-dry your frizzy hair straight?To start you need a good paddle brush.Flip your head and dry your hair so most of the wet is gone and it's basically damp then flip your head back up the right way. To find your natural part just give your head a little shake and it'll fall into place. Now using your paddle brush, brush your hair down. Turn the dryer on to not so fast (you don't want it blowing everywhere while you're trying to do this) and brush downwards while drying the hair where you are brushing.You can get dryers and brushes that let out ions that help keep your hair from frizzing. Also there are electric paddle brushes now available that smooth the hair while brushing.Personally I use a paddle brush and dryer.Thanks for the a2a, I hope I've helped.Images courtesy of Google Images.

How to blow dry hair straight?

What you need:
* smoothing shampoo/conditioner
* heat protectant
* round brush
* flat brush (just a regular brush) OR wide-toothed comb
* blow drier
* Hair spray (optional)

Ok. Wash your hair but brush it out well before you wash it to better prevent tangles. Wash AND condition your hair with smoothing shampoo ( i.e. Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth, Herbal Essences None of Your Frizziness, or Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo) and smoothing conditioner (such as the corresponding conditioners to the above shampoos).

Then when you get out, wrap your hair in a towel for about 1-2 minutes and then take it out. Brush it (with a flat brush) or comb it with a wide-toothed comb to get any remaining tangles out.

Then mist a heat-protectant (I reccomend Tre-Semme, it is very light and not sticky but works well to protect your hair) lightly over your head and brush it through briefly. Take a 1-3 inch section of hair and brush your hair from your scalp UP to the tips of your hair. While you are doing this blow your hair with a blow-drier in the direction of hair growth (or the direction you are brushing) to avoid frizz.

Repeat this for all of your hair.

At the end, spray hair spray on your flat brush and brush it throughout your hair. This should give it some extra hold without making your hair heavy and sticky.

I have hair that is slightly layered and goes down to just below my ribs. It takes me 30-45 minutes, but it would probably take a LOT less if you had less hair.

Hope this helped and here is a picture of the blowing-out part in case you can't figure it out your first time:

Good luck!

Why does blow drying hair make them straight?

Hair strands are primarily composed of protein, and proteins are composed of elements such as hydrogen and carbon that form amino acids. These amino acids are bonded together by elements and compounds that form “chains,” and these amino acid “chains” link together to create your hair!However, one of the elements that holds these bonds together is in fact hydrogen itself, and hydrogen bonds are very weak and can be broken by water.When hair is wet, because the hydrogen bonds in your hair are broken, it can be easily manipulated (straightened, curled, smoothed, etc.).When you dry your hair, the hydrogen bonds reform in whatever shape they were manipulated into. So if you wet curly hair, pull it straight with tension and then dry it, it will dry mostly straight.Other chemical bonds in the hair can also be broken with heat. So if you dry wet hair with a hot blow dryer, you can straighten or curl it.This same principle applies to flat irons, curling irons and wet or hot rollers.

Can you blow dry your hair straight with cold air?

well if you are trying to dry your hair, you should definitely use warm/hot air.
but usually whenever i was straightening my hair with the blow dryer, i would have it wet first and then use the warm/hot air and brush it/comb it at the same time.
then i would use the straightener to get the areas that were still not straight afterwards

How can I properly blow-dry my hair straight?

Always prep your hair with a light mousse such as anything by Frizz Ease or Citre Shine. This particular brand won't make the hair crunchy and will just give it a bit of protection. Just put some in the palm of your hand and just working it through all your hair.

So you want the salon trick eh? The trick is to blow dry directly down the hair shaft starting at the roots and ending at the ends. So you need to put the blow dryer up above your head. This is why it is easier for a salon professional. It is hard work to hold the blow dryer up and it makes your arm really tired! So try sitting in a chair and blow drying straight down.

Put your hair in 4-6 inch sections at a time. This makes it easier to control. Brush with a sturdy paddle brush in the direction you want it to go while following with the blow dryer. This takes practice to do it right. The brush should be a great quality boar's bristle brush like Conair. Conair is surprising a great brand! If you are willing to put some money into it (which is actually a great investment) go for an all natural one.

Go slowly so it doesn't frizz. The slower you go the better it will be. We can get it fast because at work I'm blow drying hair for six hours a day and it gets easier as you go. But going slowly and concentrating on getting one section fully dry will help.

After you blow dry, go through your hair with a nice straightening balm like Citre Shine or Bedhead (my favorite) or even Redken I think has some.

You said you have frizzy hair, so avoid using your fingers too much to brush through. This just makes your hair frizzier, so stick to a brush.

After you are done blow drying, do a quick once over with a nice cool blast of air to shut the cuticles. Do this by the sections.

Make sure you aren't moving the blow dryer back and forth. Just focus on going in a straight line and repeating it.

Don't bend over and blow dry the back, it messes with the hair cuticles.

Oh! I forgot to even tell you what kind of blow dryer to invest in! We use Chi ones, that really work well. The nicer, more expensive blow dryers are sometimes the best investment you'll make. The multiple heat settings will help you find one that really works for your hair. Always go with the medium heat so you aren't completely frying your hair!

Next time you go to the salon, ask her to show you or explain step by step how she does it.

Would it be hard to blow dry my hair straight, without the nozzle?

It depends if your hair is wavy or curly naturally, or not.
If your hair is naturally straight, it will be easy. Just use the blow dryer as if it had a nozzle.
If it isn't, you might need to use some special products such as:

- Pantene Pro-V Extra Straight shampoo and conditioner (can be found at drugstores)
- Conair Instant Heat Ceramic 2" Wet-Dry straightener (to dry your hair while straightening it)
- use a brush while blow drying, and use it the same way you would usually use it if it had a nozzle

I recommend to try and blow dry your hair from above your head, so that the wind power pushes your hair down and straight.
The bottom line is, it doesn't make much of a difference if you have the nozzle or not, but it would be a little better if you bought one.
