Why did my dog randomly start howling in the middle of the night lastnight?

My Rottweiler does the same thing. It is the most horrible sound I think I've ever heard! It's happened about 6 or 7 times in his lifetime of 8 years. What is it? He's having a dream! The one thing I can tell you for certain, cause I can't tell you what the dream is, DO NOT try to wake her up or touch her. Just talk to her in a soothing voice for a few minutes. My dog doesn't totally wake up when I do this, but it seems like he hears me somewhere in his dream & knows that "it's gonna be okay".
My Rott also looked like he was awake, which made it more scarey, but believe me, he wasn't, & I'll bet your little girl wasn't either.
Your voice is the one she loves & she'll hear you even if she doesn't wake up...& she'll stop howling!

Why is my dog barking for no reason during the night?

Dogs never bark for “no reason”. We humans are just too dumb to figure out why they’re barking. Here are some reasons why my own dogs bark:Someone outside your house is walking by with, or without a dog.Cats, squirrels and other critters are near your house. He hears far better than you ever will. Mine will bark as he hears other dogs barking 1/2 mile away. Dogs are pack animals who will bark in concert, or warn other dogs in the area that this is his territory and to back off.He needs to go potty or is trying to tell you something. Maybe he is anxious about something. Do you have a cat that taunts him or takes his bed or space? Mine will tattletale bark to me when one of the cats takes his space in his or my bed.Gas or carbon monoxide or other dangers. He’s in pain or discomfort. Many joint pains are worse at night. We feel the wrath of a cold or illness at hardest at night, too.And the most frequent trigger in my own dogs is JEALOUSY. Yes, they are super jealous and won’t try to hide it like your girlfriend when you glance at a pretty girl. Mine will bark and whine if either sees me showing affection for the other. They even place their heads under my hand or will take my hand in their mouths and guide me to pet them. Jealousy isn’t confined to other dogs. If he sees you showing affection for a family member or cat, he will insist equal affection time vocally. He is bored and needs to release energy. If a dog doesn’t get enough exercise, playtime or intellectual stimulation, he will bark until he feels he is adequately spent. The larger breeds need at least 3 hearty walks a day or an hour of hard exercise/play, preferably off leash to run and jump. You wouldn’t start yelling in the middle of the night for no reason. Neither will your dog. You can just tell someone why you’re yelling but with a dog, it’s up to you to figure out why. Try to find a way to tune into his mind and needs. Only good will come of it.

My dog keeps crying at night?

This happens often. Our chocolate lab will cry and bark at night usually around 3-4am waking everyone up.

It's gotten very irritating. He gets plenty of water (although not too much before bed obviously), and plenty of food and exercise. I can't understand what he's complaining about.

He does get jealous of our other lab, and whenever they both get attention he has to have more than the other. If he doesn't get his way he sulks and cries but he is very very affectionate.

Usually when he wakes us up, we let him out thinking he wants to do his business but this can't go on much longer. Besides, all he does is sit out there looking at the stars, he doesn't need to be out there at all.

Which makes us wonder; would he prefer to stay outside at night (is that safe?), or is he lonely at night and just wants attention.

Any ideas at all? Thank you.

Why do I wake up in a panic in the middle of the night when I sleep on my back?

I’d guess that you probably, like me, have sleep apnea. It means that your airways get blocked, for whatever reason, and your body feels it’s suffocating and wakes you up. (It’s snoring on steroids, basically.) It’s basically harmless short term, but can give you other medical problems and can even, in combination with other issues, be lethal.Go see a doctor. There’s various stuff that can be done to help you. I got a CPAP machine and it’s worked wonders for me.

What's the easiest way to get my 2 cats not wake me up in the middle of the night?

Bear with me; this sounds cruel, until I explain. We bought something called a ScatMat from Chewy.com. It gives a small static shock (the equivalent of when you shock yourself on a doorknob or a staticky blanket). Just enough to keep them away from the door, but not enough to hurt them. It just pisses them off enough to stay away from the door.My husband and I tried it before we subjected our cats to it, and it was annoying, but not painful. We even forget it’s on and step on it in the mornings. That’ll wake your ass up.It’s worked like a charm. It’s inexpensive (IIRC, about $25), but it was well worth it for that extra 3 hours of sleep.

How do I stop my dog barking to wake me up early in the morning?

I'd get a bark collar. They work like a charm. And there is NOTHING wrong with a dog having his own space, and sleeping outside, too. It's a lot healthier than being inside all the time. My Newfoundland slept outside all the time. It's not like they are getting attention when you're sleeping, anyway (and NO dog sleeps in MY bed!). My current dog sleeps in her outside kennel occasionally, so if I have to be away overnight it's not a big deal.
