How To Change Fuelpump

How do you change a fuel pump in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am?

I have a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, V6 engine. It's having a hard time starting up and running (it takes a few turns of the key and a couple presses of the gas pedal and than when I put it in gear it kind of chugs when I give it gas and than dies) my husband changed the fuel filter and it was pretty clogged up. He says the next step is to change the fuel pump but is not quite sure where to start on how to do it. How do you change the fuel pump?

How to change fuel pump on 2001 ford explorer?

It's in the fuel tank. First jack the back of the truck up as high as you can and support it with jack stands. Remove the fuel tank by removing the fuel inlet and vent hoses. Un plug the wires to the fuel pump and float (This is usually a single connector for both and you may have to lower the fuel tank slightly to get to it.). Remove the fuel lines at the tank. place a floor jack under the fuel tank and remove the bolts holding the tank in place. With the help of at least one other person lower the fuel tank carefully the gas in the tank will slosh around and try to knock the tank off of the jack so don't let it land on you. once you have the tank safely on the ground you will fined either a ring of small screws or a bung nut holding the tank unit in the top of the tank. If you have a bung nut tap one of the tabs on the nut with a small hammer and a screw driver counter clockwise to remove it. If it has screws remove them. You will have to tilt the unit some to get the float out of the whole when you lift it out. Some units have separately replaceable fuel pumps others require you to replace the whole unit. I don't remember on that vehicle which you have. If you can replace the pump separately it is just a clamp and a few wires to un hook and swap out. When you re install the unit be careful to be sure the top of the tank is clean where the unit goes in. A little dirt will cause the gasket to leak and the check engine light to come on. Before you re install the tank drain out as much fuel as possible to make it easier to install Reverse the procedure to reinstall the tank. MOST IMPORTANT NO SMOKING OR OPEN FLAMES ANY WHERE NEAR THE VEHICLE WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS. (OR YOU'LL GO BOOM!)

How to change a fuel pump on a 1998 dodge ram 1500 pick up truck?

You don't have to drop your tank the easy way is to take you bed bolts out and move your bed to the side take your sending unit out and replace your full pump. I would replace your sending unit too most of the time the sending unit is the cause of your fuel pump burning out.

How change a fuel pump on a renault megane 02?

The fuel pump is fitted in to the top of the fuel tank, if you lift up the rear seat base on the drivers side of the car you should find a round black access panel. Remove that panel and you can see the top of the pump, squeeze the coloured squares on the fuel pipes to release them, disconnect the electrical connector and then unscrew the large black plastic nut that holds the pump in to the tank. The nut will be tight and dealers use a special tool to release it, although it is possible to remove it by using a hammer and a screw driver and tapping it round. The biggest problem with this job is that some times when the nut is taken off it won't go back on due to the tank neck distorting, this usually results in replacing the fuel tank !

How do you change the fuel pump on a Chevy 235 6 cylinder?

I have an cool old 57 Chevy with a straight 6 235. It needs a fuel pump and I thought this was an easy replacement. However, I talked with a couple of guys that said something about a rod that needs to be held in place during the change process...but that it may not be like that on my engine? How do I know if there is a rod, and is there a good way to go about this change?

How to change fuel pump for a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire.?

The fuel tank has to come off. You have to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connector. Then loosen the 2 straps that hold the tank in place. This is not easy to do, especially if there is fuel in the tank. Be very careful if you really plan to do this yourself. I've replaced many fuel pumps on Sunfires and I wouldn't want to do this job at home. Once the tank is out, you have to remove the fuel pump module from the tank. The fuel pump module seal has to be installed correctly or it will leak. And also the check engine light will come on if you don't install the seal correctly.

How to change a fuel pump on a cadillac escalade 2002?

it's in the fuel tank so if you don't know what your doing, get hold of someone that does, there are all kinds of other emissions lines and things that you can do damage to, done a few it's no fun but with patience and the right tools and a manual most people could do it.
