How To Clean My Nipple Ring

HOW long do I clean my nipple piercing for?

Well, I cleaned mine regularly for about a month -- I used warm salt water from a cup and inverted it over my nipples. After that, I just cleaned them in the shower. They've healed fine and I've had them for over 5 years now.
I'd say be more diligent depending on how it is healing. If there is still discharge/soreness, be more diligent. If not, leave it alone more. Excessive cleaning could dry it out and possibly make it take longer to heal.

How to clean dried blood from a nipple piercing?

So basically I got my nipple pierced just under 24 hours ago, I know that it's normal for it to bleed but the blood is drying/ clotting around the piercing and I can't seem to get it off and I don't want to touch it too much as I know this isn't good for the healing process? Is leaving the blood bad?

How do I clean my nipple piercings with salt water and such?

The best thing to use is the salt water mix. Use 1/4 a tsp to one cup of water. The saltwater mix is meant to mimic the natural saltwater found in your body. Avoid hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, commercial ear cleaners and soap. Most soap has a fragrance in it and that can make the piercing worse. So like I said just stick to the salt water mix 2-3 times a day. A sigh of infection can include excessive redness, heat in the area and excessive bleeding. A little bleeding is normal so don't worry. Just make sure that you clean your nips and jewerly thoroughly.

How to clean a nipple piercing?

Table salt is way too harsh! And Epsom salt does not break down properly. It needs to be non-iodized sea salt. 1/4th of a teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt to 8oz of hot water. Soak the piercings twice a day for 5-10 minutes each soak. Soaking with shot glasses is easiest as explained in an above answer.

Soap can cause build up and block out oxygen, it should be avoided. Just do the sea salt soaks.

Detol and hand sanitizer on a piercing? And getting a dirty old toothbrush on it? No no no, don't know where that answer got their information but it's off.

How hard is it to maintain/clean nipple piercings?

Not hard at all.I pierced my nipples in 1992, largely because I was absolutely terrified of needles—it’s the only full-blown phobia I’ve ever had—and was determined to do something about it. So I pierced them myself, and it worked! The phobia disappeared and never returned.I kept them clean and kept my hands off them while they healed. Since then, I’ve never had any problems whatsoever with them. I don’t do anything in particular to maintain or clean them.I changed the rings in…oh, about 1998 or so, I think? I’ve worn the same rings since then. No problems.

Nipple piercing bleeding...?

Bleeding usually stops within a few days (if there is any) but it can go on for a week or even two without being a huge problem - as long as it isn't a whole lot of blood. What's happening with yours sounds pretty normal.

There are a few things you can look at to help stop it though.

What type of jewelry were you pierced with? If you have rings, they can move around and cause micro-tears in the healing tissue. Barbells are generally better for healing, but if you have rings, it's not a big deal (I healed mine with rings - had them done before barbells became the standard).

If you're not already, try sleeping with your bra on for a while. It will hold the jewelry in place and you won't catch the jewelry on sheets. It will also help cut down on the movement of your breasts while you sleep. You can place a piece of sterile gauze in each cup to protect your bra and keep the piercing clean.

Make sure you're not moving the jewelry when you clean them. Soap and rotating jewelry is out-dated aftercare, but is still recommended by some piercers. You don't need to do it. Just do sea salt soaks 2-3 times per day for the first few weeks, then you can drop down to 1-2 times per day. Mix 1/4 tsp sea salt with 1 cup warm water. It should taste as salty as your tears. More is not better. Just soak and remove any discharge with a q-tip after the soak, don't move the jewelry.

If you're still having some bleeding after a week or two, go back to your piercer and have them take a look at it.

And for the person who mentioned breast feeding, learn some basic anatomy before you comment. Nipple piercing does not affect breast feeding.

New nipple piercing cleaning question?

This is where sea salt soaks come in handy. Mix up your salt soak (1/8-1/4 teaspoon salt in 8ozvery warm water in case you forgot) and put some in a small glass. Shot glasses or dixie cups work well. Lean forward a little and vacuum the cup to your chest. You are now free to wander back to the living room to watch tv for a few minutes (hold the cups on obviously).

Once your nipples have soaked for 5-10 minutes any crust that should be removed will be willing to come off. Remove your cups and grab a clean, damp cotton ball or a q-tip. Gently wipe the piercing and try to remove all the crusties you can find. You should be able to get them all off of your jewlery. Most of it should come off of the skin around the piercing. If you have any little bits that are still resistant to comming off of the piercing after 5 minutes of soaking and some gentle rubbing, then they are meant to stay there.

You can be agressive scrubbing off your jewlery, but be gentle with the skin of the piercing itself. Keep in mind that moving your jewlery while there is crust on it can be incredibly uncomfortable. Think broken glass in newly pierced nipple. So always clean all the crust that you can see before you move your jewlery to go looking for any that is hidden.

Nipples take time to heal, usually 6 months to a year. You're going to need to keep cleaning all this time. Expect the crusting to continue for quite some time, but if you keep them clean the soreness should fade in weeks. Nipples are a project, but as long as you keep at it, they'll be fine and you'll love them.

Do I need to clean my nipple piercings or is it something else? Is it safe to remove the jewelry to clean them thoroughly or no?

You should be cleaning your nipple piercings every day for the first couple weeks. If they are still crusty and have pus, you probably should continue cleaning them at least once every few days. Do not remove them. The best method I have heard of to clean nipple piercings is simple, but requires a little bit of talent.Make sure your hands are clean. Never touch your piercing with unclean hands and try not to touch it as much as possible while healing.Dissolve 1/4–1/8 teaspoon of non-iodized salt into 8 oz of warm distilled water. Here’s the tricky part. Invert the cup of salt water over your nipple to form a vacuum. Keep it there for 10–15 minutes. If this is not possible for you, try gently washing around the piercing with the above mentioned solution with a cotton ball or gauze. I have also found showers do well to rinse off any unwanted fluids or crusties that accumulate (just do not directly wash it with soap).Try not to touch it and if you do, make sure your hands are clean. Good luck!

Do you regret your nipple piercings?

No, I have had mine for 3 years now (I think) and I've never had issue with them aside from finding out I'm allergic to titanium on one side of my body (long story short: I got titanium jewelry and one of them ended up swollen itchy and leaking pus even though they were fine the day before). It didn't hurt getting them pierced but they bled for 3 days and I was very anemic at the time so I got a bit weak from that. They only hurt when touched in the beginning (like bumping into something which I do often, not light touch). The only thing I hate is having to clean them, but I hate that about all of my piercings.
