How easy is it to create a web page?

I use and have been happy with http://eleven2.com for 4 years now. You need a domain http://godaddy.com they have domains cheap. I get mine there. If it's free you want, then http://wordpress.comand you get to use the WordPress CMS for free and yoursite.wordpress.com for free... good way to get some people to your site. And this is all without ads on your site.
How do create a website without using another site?
I know there are hundreds of sites that allow you to create other sites, but how do those sites create them? How did Google create its site or Facebook create its site? I am sure they did not use another site or company to do it for them. Thanks for your help
