How To Cure Fire Belly Newt Limb Rot

How to cure limb rot of a fire belly newt?

Try to keep your newt fully fed and comfortable. Hopefully it will heal by itself. There is really no medicine.

How to cure fire belly newt limb rot?

Can you tell me which leg is not close to the body? xD

First and foremost I'd like you to place the newt in the quarantine setup I described and place it in the coolest part of your home (somewhere between 10-20°C). It slows down the spreading of bacteria and helps the newt in de-stressing. In other words it gives you time to come up with a treatment plan. This guy in the photo is already terrestrial, so treating him in aquatic environment wouldn't make sense anyway.

Yes it's limb rot/that yummy flesh eating disease your other one has/had. Have you read the articles I linked to your ulcer question? It should have given you some ideas: from keeping the newt cool and salt baths to wide-range antibiotics and amputation (with the help of a professional of course).

Unlike ulcers, limb rot it stress related. It would be beneficial to know if you bought your newts sick/or got sick soon after you bought them or it's something that they developed in your setup.
I'd like you to share some details of your FBN setup, namely:
* tank size
* temperature
* does it have a filter
* has it been cycled
* what are the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings
* what's your water changing schedule and routine
* when was the tank set up
* how long have you had your newt
* does it eat
* do your newt have any tankmates
* how much water do you have in there
* what plants/decorations do you have
* a full tank shot would be also beneficial
Yes, this all helps finding what caused the sickness of your newt (it could be many things from bad water quality to stress caused by improper setup). Edit your question or post a new one with these pieces of information please.

I'd also like you to read the FAQ, the Articles and Species Caresheet on http://www.caudata.org/cc/ if you haven't read them already. How long can a newt survive without food?

I got two baby male fire belly newts in the mail (overnight shipping) via www.generalexotics.com on Saturday. I rearranged thier aquaterrarium several times that day and the day after. On Sunday night, one got out and died. I still have the other and i am taking much better care of it. I rearranged his tank on tuesday night again and I'm fially happy with it. But my last newt won't eat! He hasn't eaten since i got him, and it has been over 3 days! I have tried frozen bloodworms and newt/salamander pelets but he won't eat them. He hasn't taken any interest in them at all. I recently tried blackworms but he won't even look at them! They are alive and moving! I am guessing it is from shock of all the recent events? Like going through the mail, having his habitat shifted various times. I know they will eventually start to eat once settled, but i am worried for how long that may take. So how long can a male baby fire belly newt go without foord? i have a sponge filter and everything so he's healthy.I am getting a replacement newt in the mail for the one that died and he is getting here on thursday. will that affect my current newt too? somebody please help! Also, please no links for websites. i have a book for caring of newts and salamanders but that didn't help alot with the feeding problem. Please, someone with experience help! Thankyou!

What if a live house lizard falls into the drinking water? Is it poisonous?

I have seen Many of The Old Indian Television Serials and Films showcasing this aspect - In Earlier 1980's & 1990's Most of The Villains & Wicked people used to prepare Delicacies like Kheer, Sambhar or Milk mixed with a Dead Lizard (The Common Wheatish Yellow Indian Gecko) that is usually found in Houses & Gardens crawling up the walls and hiding behind Doors & Windows more often.As soon as The Victim Finished Eating The Cooked Items with The Dead Lizard - He or She would Collapse and Die immediately since it was poisonous to Human beings at least.On The Contrary - I have also seen Animals & Birds Strip apart & Eat a Freshly caught Lizard like a Gecko or a Chameleon or even a Poisonous Serpent like Eagles, Brahminy Kites, Indian Ratels & Mongooses - But nothing seems to happen to them.Strange but True - Isn't it ? Probably The Animals have a Different Mechanism of Digesting The Dead Poisonous animals, whereas The Human beings cannot do the same thing/s in reality.So maybe The Humans are more Vulnerable & Susceptible when compared with Wild animals who Eat Fresh or Rotting Raw Uncooked Meat as Food on a Regular basis.So going by The Medical aspects - "Prevention is Better than Cure" - It will be Better off, if you just throw away that Drinking Water in the vessel which had The Lizard (Dead or alive), and go for the nearest Alternate Water resource, or go to a Shop & buy a New Water Bottle to stay healthy and alive rather than Speculation & Unnecessary Experimentation with a Dead or Live Lizard Infested water.

How do you care for a blue-spotted salamander?

Hi emily. Thats a cool salamander you got there. You can use moss or some type of loose soil for the substrate. Be sure that the substrate stays moist(70% humidity and above). You can usualy get a humidity gauge at a pet store for a few dollars. This time of year thet are used to the cold weather and they actually move into the running water to stay warm, like a stream. Because running water is harder to freeze and stays warmer than the outside air. Yep thats right you have a smart pet :). They also don't eat much at all untill spring, you can try to feed him crickets and worms but don't be surprised if he does not eat them. otherwise he should be fine until spring when I am sure he'll be starving. Good Luck!
