How To Deal With A Teacher Unfairly Grading Me

My teacher is grading unfairly. What do I do?

Teachers normally (or at least should) use either an assignment checklist or a grading rubric. With a checklist, they look to see if you have met all requirements. A rubric is a bit more detailed, usually used for something like a big research paper or any large project. What kinds of assignments have you had so far in his class?

I would ask him what his expectations are for the paper, and I'd even approach him and ask if you could see a rubric for your own benefit. Put it all on you; take responsibility for earning your grade and he'll be more likely to want to help you out. He might even be surprised that you asked to see a rubric. If he doesn't have one, I'd ask him to explain the grading system so you are able to aim for a high grade.

--Edit-- I disagree with the other posters. Unless this teacher has made you feel extremely uncomfortable, I would approach him. It's like any other situation when you have a problem with a person: you need to go directly to the source. If it isn't resolved then, get an administrator or parent to intervene. Surprisingly, the most annoying and seemingly unfair teachers/professors are really understanding or concerned when a student personally approaches them. Going straight to a higher authority might just make things worse, plus it makes you seem like you can't "fight your own battles". Talk to him first and if he's a complete ***, then you have further evidence of how unfair he is.

Is my teacher grading me unfairly?

Im in freshman english currently and my english teacher is so rude to me. as many people may know, the MLA citation format is very specific and meticulous. my english teacher keeps getting mad at me because im having trouble getting the works cited page right. shes like " i dont understand whats so hard about i dont get why you cant get it right"
then im working on this essay for three weeks, its about euthanasia, cause she said to pick an ethical issue. and then two days before its due shes all "oh by the way i refuse to read or accept an essay on a canned issue" after she grades my draft. she goes didnt i tell you you couldnt write on this? and i go "no" cause she didnt. she goes i wont accept this you have to redo everything and pick a new topic to turn in two days. i find out today another kid was doing euthanasia also and he got to do it and she accepted it. i think shes pissed because i wrote an essay against euthanasia. i want to drop the class as i feel she is rude, ridiculous and bias. what should i do? i refuse to pay hundreds of dollars on books and classes to be treated like crap. and im a shy hard working student, this is bullcrap

Why is my teacher grading me unfairly?

Every time I write an essay for SAT prep (elective class), my teacher gives me a bad grade because apparently its too honest for some people to handle. For example: She asked us to write an essay about what you think about college and i wrote that I think its a scam to get all your money and she gave me a 50 on it! She gives everybody else good grades and I don't want to be fake on my essays and pretend the world is all good. I want to write what I honestly think and she says that I have to "wait until college" to criticize problems in society.

What should I do?

Thanks guys

My teacher is treating and grading me unfairly?

My AP Human Geo teacher has been giving me unreasonable grades because I was supposedly "cheating" in her class, when in reality I was writing a homework reminder on my hand. She came up to me and slammed my binder on my desk and told me to wash my hand immediately and never write on it again. I was really confused and I tired to tell her that I wasn't doing anything wrong and she sent me out of the room. A little later I told her the situation and apologized, and she said it was alright, and I thought everything was fine, but apparently it's not. She refuses to answer my questions, doesn't respond to me when I tell her good morning and ask how she is when I KNOW she heard me, and pays very little attention to me at all. I'm always polite to me and she never returns the courtesy, which I find to be plain rude. Needless to say, there is no doubt in my mind that she actually believed that I wasn't actually cheating.
I could care less about how she's been treating me-- I can deal with it--but now her dislike of me is reflecting on the grades she has been giving me! I am an A+ student, and I know that doesn't guarantee that I will get an A in every class, and I accept that and I take responsibility for any work that is not up to par. But she is constantly giving me crap grades on things that I worked my butt off over. Especially essays. For example, I wrote an essay for her, and I followed the rubric EXACTLY, including everything she asked for. She gave me an 80. I know that paper didn't deserve an 80. I have won multiple essay contests. I am in 9th grade and I'm taking senior English. I know these aren't English papers, but I know I'm pretty good and explaining myself, and I completely understood the material. I compared my paper to a few of my friends (who I happen to know that she likes), and even they admitted that I deserved a way better grade! I tried to ask her about it, but she said that she doesn't take questions on final grades, even though I've heard her answering other student's questions over the same issue!
She is so unfair and rude to me and no matter how many times I try to talk to her about it, she won't listen! The grade I have in her class is bringing down my average and I can't take it anymore and I don't know what to do! Please help!

How to deal with an unfair teacher?

I am a retired teacher ,but I am on the side of any student who is not being treated fairly !!!!!!!!!!!! So, first of all, make sure you haven't done anything wrong to deserve this. If you have not, you need to document everything that happens, Keep a copy of all your turned in work when you can do it outside of class. Go to a copy machine and always make copies. You need to have an adult on your side, that is VERY important. If your parents aren't able or willing, then find an aunt, Grandma, neighbor, youth leader, ..... any adult who knows you are honest and trustworthy. Then you need to follow the chain of command. Take your proof and adult and set up a time to meet with the teacher, I would have the adult call to set up the appt. Then if you don't get satisfaction there, go with the adult to the principal, but they often stand behind their teachers even if the teacher is wrong. So go to the district office, make an appt with the superintendent and if that doesn't work, go to the school board, People don't realize that in public schools, the public has the most control. the public votes in the school board and they hire and fire the superintendent. and so forth down the line, Often all of these people will try and blow you off, but when you finally take action with the school board, if it goes that far, then everyone will change their attitude, for the school board is the true boss, elected by the people ;) Good luck ;)

What should I do if my teacher is grading my whole class unfairly?

There are many answers to this question based on which country you live in, the power that teachers have in your society, community and institution, and whether school regulations protect students from abuses or not.Assuming that you find out that school regulations make provisions for this kind of abuse, it is essential that all students present their case to the teacher BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER. If the teacher does not change her mind, you should escalate the problem to the person immediately above your teacher in rank. At any level, you should make it clear that you know your rights and thus deserve a satisfactory response. As well, keep your tempers under control at all times, so you do not give the teacher and the other personas you might talk to an excuse to dismiss you as a bunch of spoiled children.

My English teacher grades me unfairly. What should I do?

Writing assignments aren't like math problems, with a single right answer. You apparently aren't writing the way this teacher wants you to. You should immediately go to the teacher and ask for some guidance and feedback on how you can improve your grades. Bring your previous writings from the class and find out directly from the teacher exactly what went wrong, and how you should improve them. You might also bring your writings from the previous class and discuss why they were marked so high, while this year's assignments were not. It may well be that the other assignments were supposed to be written in a different way, which you mistakenly continued with this year's assignments. Or it's possible that this teacher has a different kind of style than last year's teacher. As I said, writing isn't like math, it's far more subjective. You may have to learn how to alter your writing style to please this teacher. That's actually a valuable skill in writing. You won't know how to fix this until you have a good long talk with your teacher. Ask questions, and then really listen to the answers. You'll get a lot farther by going in with an attitude of "I'm obviously missing something I should be doing, and I need you to explain to me what it is," rather than "I got all As last year, so you must be marking me unfairly." Aside from basic human relations (you catch more flies with honey than vinegar), a teacher is far more disposed to help a student who humbly asks for help than one who goes in demanding what he thinks is his due. Be respectful, and your teacher may be nice. Be confrontational, and your teacher will be vengeful. See, Quora's rules work in the real world, too!
