How To Deal With Stress And Anxiety In Upcoming Exams

How do deal with testing anxiety?

Some things that I have done (THAT ACTUALLY WORK):

Before the test, clear your head. Try only focusing on answering the questions. Don't think about the time, or whatever else you need to do that day. Just getting the answers.

A worry stone or "fidget". Having something to fiddle with helps me to focus and keeps my mind from wandering (which leads to panic-ing)

Before the exam, identify what it is that's causing you to panic: is it the test itself? Is it something completely unrelated?

If all else fails, try to picture your happiest memory. Focus on that and take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Lavender scent also helps me if I dab a little on my wrist.

Good luck on your exam!

How do you deal with test anxiety?

1) Attend, and pay attention in class so that you can learn what your teacher wants you to know.

2) Do you homework. Make sure you know how to come up with the answers. It's OK to verify answers with friends, but make sure you understand the answers, not just that you have the correct answers.

3) Study before the test. Review notes. Redo some of the homework questions to make sure you remember and get the correct answer.

4) Relax, knowing that you did your best in class, homework, studying and that worrying won't help you any.

5) When taking the test, go through it multiple times. Read each question carefully - if multiple choice or T/F look for key words such as 'always' or 'never' and answers that can easily be eliminated. First time answer all the "easy ones" - those you know and can do without too much thinking. Make a mark next to those that you skip. Second time through you will have a better understanding of those you don't know (perhaps some other question gave you the answer, perhaps another question triggered your memory, or just reading it a second time gives clarification). After completing the test, if time allows, go back through again and look for stupid mistakes that need to be corrected.
