How long does it take to delete 30,000 emails?

Second to hours, depending on the method and the hardware involved.I presume that you are asking about Platt River Networks, the company hired to provide the State Department with a copy of all of Hillary Clinton’s e-mails after she left the department. Those e-mails were first transferred by a State Department employee from the server in question to a MacBook laptop and also a USB thumb drive. The employee attempted to restore the e-mail over the Internet to a PRN server following the instructions of PRN tech support, but after several failed attempts ended up sending the laptop by FedEx to PRN, who restored a copy of the messages and flagged the e-mails as private or State Department business using a collection of text searches of the e-mails.PRN prepared a copy for the State Department with all the messages they deemed official messages and contacted Clinton’s staff and asked about what to do with the ones they felt were private. Clinton’s response was, “I don’t care. I don’t have a use for them anymore.” So, PRN eliminated those messages securely (technically, the process involves overwriting each message with 0’s before deleting it). This is pretty much considered best practice for deleting personal information from a computer. On a ~2010 MacBook, that procedure would take 50–250ms per message, depending on the message size. Say, about an hour.Incidentally, the State Department employed tasked with copying the data lost the USB thumb drive.Clinton herself had no direct involvement in the process (and the FBI probe found that, by all accounts, Clinton is pretty much technically illiterate and completely reliant on others to do anything involving computers). The details of all of this can be found in the FBI report, which you can download from their website: Hillary R. ClintonThe report not only exonerates Clinton of wrongdoing, but paints a terrible picture of IT at the State Department. Not only did the Secretary of State openly use a private e-mail server, but the majority of State Department employees did as well.

I want to delete all the unread email which are around 30000. How can I do that on Gmail?

I have tried large delete from Trash tasks with Gmail but what it does is slow down and start to crash. It times out and Gmail is not accessible for awhile.I do not think Gmail servers can sustain large delete requests. Each delete is a request to modify your space on the web server. Web servers protect themselves from volume requests because it starts to look like a DDOS attack. After you delete your unread email, you then must delete it from Trash if you want clear Gmail folders. This is one reason for auto filter to folders. You can delete entire Gmail folders easily. I have done this to save lots of individual file deletion.Gmail needs to be set up in advance to direct your emails to folders.Direct your most important emails to named folders. My Gmail account is very old with files that are very hard to remove. (I am into safelists and other email based programs.) I now search to find what I want. But I can remove large volumes of emails by deleting folders.

I have over 18,000 emails on Gmail. How do I delete them all at once?

I needed to update this post to add 1 extra step because Google added an additional piece of verification to this process. Most likely because of me showing tens of thousands of people how to delete all of their junk mail.I also got a bunch of comments below saying this “doesn’t work” but rest assured my friends, we are back in the game with this “1 simple trick.”Warning! You are probably about to delete a huge amount of email, please be aware of what you are doing. Always backup your email before attempting to delete your email or any data for that matter. If you scroll past this page you acknowledge that you will not hold me liable for any damages that may be incurred by deleting email. Thanks! This method is mainly for when you have a HUGE amount of emails and don’t feel like deleting them a hundred at a time.I’ll start with this illustration, and then talk a bit about it.Click to enlargeStep 1: Go to the Gmail search bar and enter in today’s date or the date you want your email deleted from. So if I want everything from today deleted I would enter:before:2015/05/22
Meaning – delete everything before May 22, 2015.Step 2: Check the magic box. The key here is you will see a notification that says “All conversations in this search are selected.”This basically means all 10,000 emails are selected, not just the default 50 or 100 emails that you see on your screen.Step 2.5 Updated – In addition to checking the magic box, you now also need to click the link that says “All conversations that match this search.” Google added this extra step sometime in 2016 to make people think twice before selecting huge amounts of email to delete / move / archive / mark as spam etc.Step 3: Click the trash button. You will probably get a warning which you will need to affirm. Once that happens it might take a minute or two. I just deleted almost 10,000 emails and it took about 2 minutes. You might get a “still working” message while you wait.Other thoughts on mass deleting a lot of Gmail messages at onceYou can use this method to do a bunch of other stuff such as archive your email, mark it all read, mark it unread, or delete it.Please note that if you are using this method with a connected email + domain, this may or may not delete the email off your server depending on your mail server setup. You’ve been warned, but let me warn you again. Think before you hit that delete button, because you ain’t gettin’ those emails back.

Deleted emails reappear in my inbox?

For about the last month or so, I've noticed that when I delete an email, or a group of emails from my inbox they will reappear in my inbox, sometimes almost immediately and other times after several minutes.

I am not using Yahoo basic.

I do go to my yahoo inbox via several browsers, mostly firefox (v21.0), chrome (Version 27.0.1453.110 m) and IE (8.0 at work, later version at home). I noticed this issue happens across all of these browsers.

How do I delete all mails in gmail at once?

Why yes you can. But first, are you sure you want to delete all mails? If you do this, they cannot be recovered. That said, you cannot do this at the moment in the new Google Inbox Interface. If you have set your gmail to automatically redirect you to inbox, you will have to change that setting temporarily. If you are already using Inbox and you cannot see the old Gmail interface. Proceed with Step 1, if not, go to Step 2Step 1Go to your Settings in Inbox, you might have to scroll down a wee bit for thatchange the setting "Redirect Gmail to.." confirm and close at the bottom of the dialogue. Step 2go to: Gmail [1] In the search bar at the top: enter the following search term: in:anywhereclick the blue search button. In the results, first click on the dropdown menu of the selection box on the far left: Then click on "Select all conversations that match the search"Gmail will now tell you, that "All conversations in this search are selected" Now you can proceed to click on the Delete button and follow the instructions. Mind you, Google will offer to move the emails to the Trash folder for 30 days, this is the default behaviour. After that, they will be deleted automatically. If you want to delete them right away, open Trash and click on the link that says "Empty Trash now"That is it, you are done. After that, if you are using Inbox as your default, make sure to go back to Sign in - Google Accounts and change the setting back to forward you automatically. Note: Sometimes, Google will fail deleting all messages. You can try using the before command, to group the messages by year, making it more manageable if that happens. So instead of "in:anywhere" you can search for "after:2015/1/1 before:2017/1/2" etc. depending on the date range of the mails you have. Footnotes[1] Gmail

How do I delete all the emails in my Gmail inbox by one action only?

Note: This only works for Gmail and is updated to March 2, 2019. Lots of these posts are old and thus not relevant anymore since Gmail is always changing the layout. This does not pertain to unsubscribe, but there is a blurb at the end for those who asked since it is relevant for spam.Follow the below steps carefully:In the left box where you can see your different mailboxes (Inbox, Sent, etc), scroll down and select ‘More’.Select ‘All Mail’Click the check-mark to select all the emails in the current view, and then click ‘Select all x conversations in All Mail” (see screenshot)Hit the garbage can button above the emailsThen, select ‘Trash’ from the same left box where your different mailboxes are show and select ‘Trash’.Click the box above to select all the messages in the folder and click ‘Delete Forever’.Now all of your emails are deleted forever. This does not unsubscribe you from spam emails. Even in google’s spam folder, it does not catch all the spam, and sometimes mistakenly puts important emails in there. Also, sometimes you do not have the username and password to unsubscribe, and you are not able to.For this, tools exist. A famous example is Unroll.me.I personally prefer newer applications, of which there are many. These have better usage and design and take less time.My personal favorite is Mr Clean, linked here. This one automatically identifies the least relevant emails and allows you to delete them or even put them in a hidden folder that deletes after 30 days. I like this function in case I mistakenly put something.Best of all, no spam and easy unsubscribing means a less cluttered life and more focus on the things that make me smile, like my pet fish Dracula and eating pancakes in my overalls.

Emails won't delete in yahoo mail, they keep reappearing in my inbox?

I click on an email and then click on delete. Presto, gone. And then it's back in my inbox. sometimes up to five times. I click on trash and click to empty it, sometimes the trash empties and sometimes it doesn't. If the trash empties, it seems to take the email permanently, but it shouldn't come back in the first place when I initially delete it. I'm using Firefox, if that makes a difference.
