How To Do Better In College

Tips on how to do better in college?

Hi, I'm already in college and this is my third semester. I have to tell you, I've fail badly because I take classes 6 days a week, which resulted in massive procrastination. I overstudied my classes like until midnight and wake up doing the same at 5 am. I decided to skip a final exam for one class, I know which is stupid. I'm in a pretty bad shape because of these obstacles. Are there any tips on improving for the next semester?

Is college better than high school?

I liked college better since after all the GE sh*t I could study what I wanted.

How to do better in college?

I'm in college, I study so hard for hours and hours everyday and I barely have a social life. I go to office hours and ask lots of questions to my professor. I'm still getting all C's. What is wrong with me!!? Am I stupid or am I still not studying enough?

Will college really help me get a better job?

My dad keeps bugging me to go to college. I dont really like school. I have been working after i got out of high school but i dont make much. If i go to college will it really help me get a better job?

Which college do you think is better whitman or UW?

uhh...WHICH UW...??? Washington? Wisconsin? ...

edit: UW by a mile. Whitman doesn't have a bad reputation or anything...it just has no reputation at all! U of Washington is a great place.

Did you like college better than High School?

Absolutely!!!

I am an adult student (30 years old). I enjoy my classes much more at this age than I think I would have had I gone when I was younger. Things make more sense when you have had life experience. I'm currently taking an economics class and I'm loving it. It's actually explaining things I've heard about on the news. I'm actually starting to understand how the world of commerce works.

High school for me was bogged down by parental expectations and peer pressure. I absolutely hated high school but love the college experience. This is about me and what I can accomplish, it's not for anyone else but me!

If you do decide to start going to school begin slowly. The first class should be something that really interests you. Even if you can't decide what degree you might pursue take something that you've always wanted to learn about. If for no other reason than it gives you more knowledge. Knowledge is power :)

I highly recommend the experience, not to mention the degree will be helpful! I'm not saying it's easy, but it is well worth it!

p.s. If you are a working mom, it's still doable, it just takes a little longer and a lot of patience.

What did/do you like better... High School or College?

High school tends to suck for a lot of people (read: not part of the "popular crowd"). It has the advantages of being easier in terms of work, not to mention less stressful. However, most people are also stuck with the same class for years, so if you're an outcast, tough luck.

University, on the other hand, is a LOT more work, and is far more stressing as a result. However, you also change classes often and don't necessarily share classes with the same people. You can also easily drop classes and change your major on whim. However, that extra work also comes to bite you in the behind: the so called "freshman 15" isn't really a joke, as many people find they lack the time to exercise (not to mention the freedom means you'll be more likely to eat junk food).

Is an apprenticeship better than college?

I can tell you my own experience to try and help you with your question. I personally regret going to college. I have a bachelors in construction management and it is a helpful degree to a very profitable and great career. I wish I had done an apprenticeship though instead of being $40,000 in debt to make the rich richer. Assuming you find one that will teach you on the job for free. College, to me, is a great way to be educated. I also believe that it is some what of a scam. I have friends who learned a trade through an apprenticeship and make 6 figures in the time that I was still working on my degree. Same outcome in the end. Just as much money as someone with my degree and just as rewarding.

Colleges are in the business to make money. That is just fact. They get money from young people willing to take out thousands of dollars in loans and then pay interest on them for half their lives. Sounds like a great business to be in right? The richest people in the world dropped out of school to work for themselves and educated themselves by learning real world experience, which is more valuable than sitting in a class room to get a piece of paper. Companies will have to teach you how to do your job when you graduate anyways-Fact. Why pay to get a college education when you can be paid to learn in the real world with the same outcome?

But, everyone is different and has different goals and ideas of what it means to be successful. In society's eyes, success is to achieve a higher social status by being able to tell people you have a degree and make good money. There are more important things in life. Do what you love and what makes you happy. Even if it's not what society tells us we have to do. Just my opinions take it with a grain of salt and find a passion. Passions will lead to money.
