How To Dress For A Singing Audition

Kpop songs to sing for audition?

I like Love119 (Feat. MC Mong) by K.Will: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPk8ph5P0...
It has rapping that's not too intense, and lots of places where you can show your vocal skills.

Heartbroken (not sure about the title translation) by Navi featuring Crown J: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9AkqSj9r...
2AM also did an awesome cover of it with Jaebum from 2PM rapping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aayF60dQj...

Or Y, Why... by CN.Blue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8uAhkJWeuk
Woo. This one's so good.

Wedding Dress is also a good choice. I'd stay away from dance songs, or ones with repetitive cute lyrics.

Good luck. =)

What do you need to know before auditioning for K-pop?

There are 2 types of audition. One is a face to face audition while the other is a online audition by email.Live audition (Face to Face audition)Learn basic hangul language such as basic greetings.Learn their customs and etiquettes.Do not sing a popular Korean song unless you can pronounce it well enough for them to understand.Do NOT SING A SONG WHICH IS SUNG BY ONE OF THEIR OWN ARTISTS in their company unless you can sing it like the artists themselves or better. (Remember that they know their own songs inside and out and that they are tired of hearing it everywhere they go as most popular new release K-pop songs are constantly played in the bus, cafes and almost everywhere in Korea)Prepare a dance. Just in case they ask for you to dance as almost all k-pop groups and solo artists dance in almost all of their concerts and Music video’s.Dress simple. Do not try to wear a crazy or too much acessories outfit.Smile at the judges. Everyone loves it when someone smiles warmly at them especially when the judges have evaluated thousands of young people auditions, that must be really tiring.Show your personality. Don’t try to hide it or try to act cool like everyone else in the room, just be YOURSELF, if you’re shy be shy and sing warmly in your song, if you’re cheerful, tell a joke and try to make the tired judges laugh)Be respectful.Online AuditionSing at least 2 to 3 songs, one song could be a Korean song while the other two could be english songs or your own song.Video quality should be good.Say your greetings in Korea language as that would be glad that you took the effort in learning basic Korean. (FACT: All Koreans have pride in their language so if they see or heard someone speaking in Korean or trying to learn hangul they would be proud and happy as hangul is named as one of the most prominent scientific language ever invented. Hangul was invented by King Sejong)

What are any YG audition tips?

YG really doesn’t care about your appearance (as in how ‘pretty’ or ‘handsome’ you are. That’s what I like about YG) If you’re rapping, you better be really good. (write your own lyrics) YG has about 30% of SK’s best rappers (GD, Mino, Bobby, Tablo, Okasian, etc.). If you are doing vocals, sing a song that is in your comfort zone. As for dancing, try to avoid really well known dances. It may not seem like it, but YG has really good dancers like Taeyang, Lisa, and Seunghoon. I suggest that you try doing your own choreography. Here’s a video of Winner’s Lee Seunghoon dancing before he entered YG.

What to wear to an Annie audition?

Wear comfortable but neat clothes and shoes you can move and dance in--period. It isn't necessary for you to try to come in costume. It could actually backfire (though it would help if you had red hair--but most Broadway "Annies" were not natural gingers). If there is a height and age requirement for the role you will have to meet that--but what will get you the role is if you sing, dance, and act in a way that the casting/audition people can envision you as Annie. That is what will get you the role--not the best costume. Besides, I don't know what production you are trying out for, but keep in mind that you can look like you stepped out of the original comic strip and be the best singer, dancer, and actor there---and still not get the role for any number of reasons. That's the hardest thing to accept. Sometimes you can go for an audition, only to find out that the main roles are already cast or they prefer to work with someone they know. That's just the way it goes. Don't eliminate yourself from being considered from other roles by walking in dressed as any particular character.

Anything goes tips pointers good audition for a musical: must sing hey Jude, and do mystery monologue & dance?

Be calm. It's a school musical, you aren't auditioning for Broadway. Most kids there don't really have experience.
Avoid sugary foods and drinks as well as those that are salty. You want the proteins in your mouth and throat to stay balanced. Don't let your mouth get dry. Drink lots of water, but make sure you go to the bathroom before you audition!
Be confident. Don't play with your hair. USE YOUR ARMS. Do not fold them. Confidence in auditions is exuded when you aren't afraid to use your arms. But don't do an interpretive dance on stage. :P Just pick a few places to make emphasis with your arms, and move them above the elbow, don't do any weird robot moves where it looks like your arms are glued to your sides. Also, make sure that your feet are spread apart, about the width of your hips. It gives you a confident air. Also, on certain parts of the monologue, lean in to the auditioners a little.
Dress in something modest, easy to move in, but makes you easily remembered. Wear a color that most people wouldn't. Or wear a really cute hair barrette. Nothing big, just wear something that they can say "oh yeah, that girl with the lavender shirt".
When dancing, smile and make eye contact with those auditioning you. If you watch your feet or look too into it, they won't notice you as much.
As for singing, avoid belting if you are inexperienced. It can really ruin your voice, not to mention sound awful, if you belt without being taught how. Just sing it in a way that you are comfortable with. Don't go for a "musical" sound. Just sing it in a style that best shows off what you're good at!
With the monologue, read it really well. Make sure you know the little intricacies. Figure out the character. Come up with body language. Maybe when this character gets angry, they clench their fists. Exude the emotion through your entire body!

How can you be easily noticed by a K-pop agency using online auditioning?

In short, it’s not easy to be noticed online anymore then it is to be noticed in actual audition. They are still looking for the same things, whether it’s online or offline.Make sure you don’t try and look like you’re trying to hard. Make your photos look natural, don’t wear a lot of makeup and jewelry, don’t use a standard K-Pop idol pose, don’t dress super fashionably. Try to make it seem like you are naturally taking these photos. Do not edit these photos. When singing, some companies ask for two songs, try to pick a Korean song. Mix in a little English as well. Some people say don’t sing K-Pop, but it doesn’t really matter. Sing something that shows off your voice and your language skills. Do not sing a song in another language if you can’t have a full conversation in that language. You also want to introduce yourself and the song you will be singing. You can also introduce yourself in as many languages you know, show off your skills. Usually they want you to sing without music, but you could use the music if you want. Do not edit your voice. Editing your voice is like an automatic disqualification. When they ask why you want to join the company, answer honestly. Try to make your answer sound original and not something anyone else would say. Your goal is to stand out. Do not lie to them.Answer every question honestly, never lie in an audition. You also want to look into the camera, as if it were your audience. Make sure you smile, not forced or to large. And simply be yourself!Goodluck!
