How To Dye Hair Without Bleach

How to dye black hair without bleach?

Before someone could answer truthfully, they would need to know if your black hair color was previously colored or natural.

You can dye black hair without bleach as long as it's natural. You can lift hair 4 shades using a 40 volume developer mixed with the appropriate permanent hair color (similar to L'Oreal's Excellence HiColor Red).

If your hair color is artificial, I recommend using hair chalks. It's the perfect way to achieve beautiful, bold results without bleach (which is your other option). Check out the Hair Chalking Tutorial by Hairstyle-Blog.com to learn incredible step by step tips how to achieve amazing results!

Semi-permanent hair colors (like Manic Panic) are great for those with light or bleached hair. It might work for those of us with dark hair, but the results will be far less vivid and bright.

Good luck!

How do I dye my hair light brown without bleach?

Usually I would be asking you questions about your hair before figuring out a formula to color your hair. I’m going to give you a few scenarios, and hopefully this will help you out. If you have virgin hair (never been colored), and it’s dark, you have to be prepared to counteract the underlying pigments, mostly red and/or orange, depending on what level you want to reach. To neutralize the red underlying pigment, you will need a green based color. To neutralize the orange, you will need a blue based color. If you are buying your hair color from Sally’s then you are first going to want to get your natural color matched to see what level you’re starting at. So, if your hair is really dark, almost black, that’s a level 2. You want a light brown, probably a level 6. You want to lighten your hair 4 levels. To get to that goal, you need to use a 40 volume developer with your color. Now when applying the color, you need to apply it 1/2 inch away from the scalp, and 1 inch from the tips of your hair. The reason for this is the heat from your scalp will make the scalp process faster than the rest, and the tips are usually more porous and process quickly as well. Once the mid-shaft has processed for about 25 minutes, then apply color to the scalp and ends. Process 15–20 minutes, or until color is even from root to tip.If your hair has been colored before and it’s darker than the light brown you want, you have no choice but to strip the color out, and that involves bleach. If your hair has been previously lightened, then you need to use a filler to replace underlying pigment needed to support your color and prevent fading. You would probably need a gold filler. Filler is applied to dry hair before applying color. Since you are only depositing color, you will need a 10 volume developer. Apply color root to tip, and process 30 minutes at room temperature.10 volume = deposit color and/or lift 1 level20 volume = lift 2 levels30 volume = lift 3 levels40 volume = lift 4 levels50 volume = lift 5 levels

In the process of lightening hair, the dye first chemically lifts the cuticle and then breaks down the natural pigments (color) of your hair. The active ingredient is salon-grade peroxide. (Hydrogen peroxide from the drug store is not the same thing.)

The peroxide comes in different strengths called 'volumes'. The higher the number, the stronger the solution. A 5 volume is much gentler than a 40 volume.

When you want to achieve a lot of 'lift' (lightening) you use a higher volume. 40 volume provides 2 levels of lift. This means you can only go 2 shades lighter than you are now without resorting to bleach.

If you did it yourself, and I'm guessing you're not a professional hairdresser, then the bleach products you were able to buy were much harsher than what is used in the salon. Also, you may have had to leave it on too long to get the level you wanted.

Making sure the bleach stays moist by wrapping a plastic bag on your head will help. Adding heat from your hairdryer onto the plastic bag will also speed up processing.

Also, bleach is not a one person job. You need someone you trust to help you apply it correctly- small sections so the product goes onto every strand evenly, and roots last. The heat from your head can cause the roots to lighten faster, so applying the roots last gives them less processing time, equaling things out.

I've talked a lot about bleaching, hoping you will give it another try, but if you are set against it, go to a beauty supply store for your product instead of buying a kit at the grocery store. You will be able to purchase the strongest volume of peroxide and you will be able to choose a toner (the color that gets deposited into your hair) based on its tone (warm or cool) rather than some spiffy name that doesn't tell you anything- "Golden Honey", and the photo-shopped picture on the box.

Hope that helps and good luck!

How can I dye black hair purple without bleach?

You can’tNot purple anyway.Think of it this way, permanent hair dye just isn’t strong enough to lift past the red-orange stage of black hair, You may look at the red on this chart and think “hey thats not so far off from purple” but any of the blue needed to make the hair appear purple will probably drop the hair back to black again or will just get lost altogether. If your hair is un-dyed virgin black hair, these are the closest colours to purple I think that you will be able to achieve without bleach.Even that is a bit of a stretch, I believe these where special high lift formulas on finer brown hair, but you get the idea.If you hair is black, you will have to do thisTo have the canvas to do thisYou will have to do thisin order to achieve thisthisif you want thisand finally thisif you want thisI know purple doesn’t look like a big deal, but because it is a cool tone it absorbs light and actually looks darker than it really is. True purple is in fact one of the hardest colours to have. The thing is, if you look at the colour wheel, violet is the opposite colour of yellow, and if we look back at our hair colour chart, we can see that yellow is the last colour to leave the hair when lifting. You need to go WHITE BLONDE in order to remove enough yellow to have purple show up. You can cheat the system a little bit by choosing a dark purple, but you will still need to lift to about a level nine to really see it.

How do I color hair without bleaching it?

Colouring your hair without bleach is possible. Depends on your hair colour. For dark hair (Black or dark brown), colouring in lighter shades is difficult. So you can colour ur hair in particular colours like maroon red, wine, burgundy and even honey coloured but this would require a high volume of developer. I am saying this out of experience as I recently got my hair highlighted with maroon red and honey and it looks great. The developer volume used was 30%. For colours like blue, purple, green, you have to bleach the dark hair so that it is lighter and then you can add the desired colour. For lighter natural hair like light brown or even blonde or other colours, it is easier to dye your hair in different colours without bleach as the colours will mostly be darker and so, more evident in your hair.I would suggest opting for a non-bleach hair colour as it would cause less damage to the hair. The non-bleach hair colour lasts for about 3 months after which it might start changing shades a bit. But it won't go back to your natural hair colour unless you dye it black or cut off the hair. Preferably, try not to colour from the roots.. helps reduce damage.Let me know if you need any more info.I am attaching pictures of my hair colour after dyeing without bleach. I have black hair. (Indian). The first pic is the colour in sunlight. The colour seems light in the second pic but it's actually a beautiful copper-maroon-wine kinda red.Oh, and pls do get it done in the salon for the first time..

Can you dye your hair black without bleaching it?

Before my hair was naturally dark brown then i dyed it red without bleaching it.Now it as faded and its like an auburn color, do i have to bleach my hair blonde to dye it jet black.

Can I dye my hair like this without the sun bleaching it?

I have really dark brown hair, meaning if I want vivid any color, I have to bleach first. But what if I just want a slight tint? Like if I took red and dyed my hair without bleaching fist. It would just turn slightly red right? if I used no bleach, and I go in the sun a lot, then my hair will not start turning a weird red orange right? What would happen? Would the red just slowly fade, but not actually ever get lighter than my natural hair color? Thanks!

How do I dye my black hair brown without bleaching?

This depends on the level of brown you are going for. If your hair color is black naturally or artificially, also makes a difference. Let's say it's natural. It is possible to lift your black hair to a medium/dark brown. Without bleach it's possible to lift your color about 3 levels. You would need to use 12% or 40 volume developer with your color. This way you stand the best chance of getting as light as possible without the help of bleach.

If I dyed my hair without bleach, would it still get damaged?

It really depends. If you don't dye it too often then it won't get super damaged but dye will damage hair yes. Basically, all dyes have a certain amount of peroxide in which is what damages the hair. The lighter dye it is the more peroxide it will have in it, which is why they say bleaching it blonde is so bad for your hair because it's so light whereas going darker isn't as damaging. But like I said all dye is damaging because they all have at least a little bit of peroxide in. There's ways you can go around looking after it though afterwards. I probably dye mine once a month, once every two months maybe and look after it and condition it so it isn't in bad condition but it isn't much like it was before I started dying it. I have jet black and bleach blonde (nearly white) in my hair at the moment and the blonde bit is definitely more damaged and frizzy than the black is.
