How To Enroll A Child In School

Do you have to enroll your child to school every year?

Yes, your child’s education is critical, it gives them a chance to grow up, go to college and get a job that they love. But It depends on your financial status, which means if you’re taking a child to a very expensive school that you cannot afford don’t get them too comfortable, plan how much you will earn in 12 years, and calculate how much the fees will cost in 12 years. Take into account you will need to pay bills, taxes and for food. I would recommend placing them in a public school if you need the money for your family.

Is it okay for me to enroll my child in school at a very young age?

Possible, but the trend seems to be pointing in the other direction.  60 Minutes recently featured a report on parents red-shirting their kids an additional year in kindergarden so that they are more developed mentally and physically - and can outperform their younger classmates.  Whether parents are misguided or not in their thinking, check out the 60 Minutes report here: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-1856...

Would you enroll your child in a private school?

In our area there are two very well regarded private schools that use a European style rather than what you get from US schools. My wife is European and we had an affinity to this.We seriously considered it, but chose not to.Our primary reasons for not doing it were:Our local public school system is very strong. In fact, our son’s public high school was ranked #1 in the state this past year when he graduated.Travel times to and from. The distance to these schools is just far enough away to potentially cause difficulty in one direction or the other. Time with light traffic is about 25 minutes. With bad rush hour traffic, one-way could take over an hour. we felt that it would be soul-killing for our kid spending so much time travelling. However, If we lived in an area with poor quality public schools, we would not have hesitated to place our kid in a private school. And this really is the key: Which option provides the BEST possible educational outcome?

Do i have to re-enroll my child if he attended the same school the year before?

If it's a public school, then no you do not.

Do you have to be a gardian to enroll a child in school?

more then likely yes

Can you enroll a child into public school if you do not have custody?

Typically, NO. It doesn’t matter whether the school is public or not. You don’t get to enroll a child into any school if you don’t have custody.Custody means the right and obligation to make key decisions on behalf of the children, and one of the key decisions is what school they will attend. If you have sole custody, you call the shots. If you have joint custody, you have specified somewhere in the Parenting Plan who is the “Residential” parent. It’s typically only one of the parents and while under joint custody the matter can be discussed, debated, … if there is an impasse then it’s still the “residential” parent who calls the shots. The reason there is a “residential” parent (or primary parent for residential purposes… terminology varies) is that should you live on different sides of a school boundary, the kids would have the right to enroll within the school boundary of the residential parent only.If you don’t have custody, you may politely suggest to your ex. You may strengthen your case by providing compelling evidence as to the rankings of the school you are interested in. But in the end it’s not your call.

What would happen if a child was never enrolled in school?

If parents decided to not enroll their kid in the American public school system and didn't homeschool them, basically not give them any kind of education, what would happen? Would the government get involved/what would they do?

How long legally do we have to enroll my child in school after a move?

Depends on where you move to and how long it takes to get a job or a permanent address.

Usually, you are supposed to enroll a child in school within a few days of settling in with a job and a permanent address--but you'll have to check into the local laws in the area where you are moving to--each state has different laws about such things. Try calling a local school or school district (in the new location) about it. Or look in the local phone book--many phone books have a section with information for people who are new to an area.

Or check into the laws about homeschooling. You could find out how to legally homeschool and then you won't have to worry about it, instead you can make the move part of the curriculum as the children learn about the geography covered as they move, learn about different aspects of life that have to be dealt with in a move (which can easily include social studies and math), and so on.

Good luck.

How to enroll a child in school you don't have custody of?

I just went through this when I took custody of my grandson and unless the dad or grandparents give you temporary legal guardianship, you won't be able to enroll him in school without them being present. You may also have problems with providing medical care including authorization for records, test results, and immunizations. Providing insurance or dealing with the insurance he already has and being able to claim him as an exemption or as a dependent for EIC on your income taxes will also be a problem without legal guardianship.
