How do I keep an elderly man entertained who can't move around much?

There are so many great options! Everything from books, movies, "Talking Books"/audio books (if vision's an issue), comedy albums (MP3s/podcasts)...are great. As far as personal interaction, find out about his favorite topics and spend some time chatting about them. You might be able to help him create a memory book or put down his life wisdom or family history for loved ones. You can help him create favorite meals (even if he can mainly instruct you on them as you prepare them, and then share them together). Here's an article I wrote full of ideas: Summer Activity Ideas for Seniors and Elder Caregivers Easy Living Home Care for Seniors.Depending on the level of mobility, he can likely still get out and about with some help. You may need to hire a professional caregiver to help with transferring, safety and comfort but it can be very worthwhile esp. for special outings. Check with the place you will be going for accessibility and consider modifying the activity a bit to maximize comfort (length of time out, time to go, etc.).When it comes to entertainment in-home or out, start with his past and current interests...almost anything can be modified in such a way to still be enjoyed. He may not be playing baseball anymore, but he can watch games, talk about his favorite players, read books about them and collect baseball cards still (as an example).

How to entertain a sick elderly?

How do you entertain them?
I'm asking on behalf of my grandpa.
How can you entertain him while you go around doing your chores?
He's really stubborn now and he doesn't want to watch television anymore, nor read books. He has hated them since I was born.
He can't stand and sit anymore and he has a bedsore.
Do you think of any way to entertain him?
I love my grandpa to bits..
thank you

What is the best way to entertain elderly people at an old age home?

Visit them with a group of volunteers. Assign one volunteer to just two or three residents. Ask them to listen to the elderly, just plain simple hearing / listening. Make them happy by warding off loneliness for say 30 minutes to an hour. Take a photo and share hard copy with them. Material gifts are fine but don’t bring happiness always. How I wish cheap Polaroid cameras become available.

How do I entertain elderly residents in a Nursing Home?

You know, after spending the winter in a "Retirement RV Park", you can be sure that some of these older individuals may be having a difficult time with mobility but you'd better not bet the farm on their minds being the same way. We have people in their 90s here playing shuffle board and are very serious (the championship begins Wed.). Of course, Bingo is a tremendous hit on Monday and Thursday evenings, also the same with the collective trips to various Casinos in the area. Several of our 90 plus folks go everyday to the local "Senior Center" to play poker all day long. Nothing is really big stakes but there are some real gamblers here. There is a poker game after the weekly pot luck dinner. Someone is trying to get Blackjack going.

Then we have the the more social functions with other card games in which are engaged in, like Cribbage, Euchre, Hearts, Hand and Foot, Pinochle and even Dominoes. Each person has their favorite games and not too willing to vary. Like we have one couple who are ardent Euchre players but will not play Dominoes then another couple is the exact opposite, yet the both like to play Hand and Foot.

Now I am sure there are many other card games and games of combined skill and luck which you could learn and you will be sure to be a hit when you come around. The dominate domino game here is "The Mexican Train" Game, but there are a number of ways to play dominoes. Another game of skill which I enjoy as does several here is the pool games of 8 Ball, 9 Ball, 100 and 1.

Remember even though, an Senior Citizen may be older and have difficultly in getting around the odds are very good that their mind is sharp as a tack. Just because the hair is white does not mean that the brain is senile. Converse with Seniors as you might even learn something from them considering their long experiences of life.

How to stay entertained in church?

Hi! First, before you comment, please, actually READ and comprehend my scenario:
OK, so I'm not not NOT Catholic Christian, but my parents are strictly catholic christians. They drag me along to church every sunday and it's boring as hell, also considering I don't share their beliefs and have no interest in it. I hate hearing the priest ramble along about Jesus and The Lord and everything, while I'm counting the minutes till church ends.

There are no catholic rock masses or youth masses in our area (San Diego) so I am forever moping about with nothing to do. For me, its like playing the most boring game of Simon Says ever invented (Sit, Stand, Kneel...Sit, Stand, Kneel)....it's incredibly boring.

Just to repeat, I'm NOT Catholic. Just so you don't try to usher me into trying to listen to the crap coming out of the priest's mouth (I've tried it so many times, and I just don't believe in it, nor do I find it "exciting".) .

Also, my parents FORCE me to go to church. Force me to stay quiet, and to play the endless simon says game. They also force me into sitting next to them...so I can't play or text on my phone...
I've also tried the go-to-the-bathroom-and-play-games-on-you... idea but after ten minutes they come in and say "Honey, are you constipated? Do you need help?" LOL .

I need to stay entertained. It's like an hour of HELL for me , going to church and being bored out of my mind.

Anyone? (Also, please don't bombard me with hate. This is just me, my opinion. I have nothing against Catholics. I love all religions, but Catholicism isn't my very favorite. It's good, though. So if you're Catholic, don't take this as a hate message. Thanks guys for understanding.)

What are the best ways to entertain or mentally stimulate an elderly person confined to bed?

Using the iPad ... Read to him. Ask him questions about his life. Show him old photos. Watch the same TV shows or movies and discuss them. Play games (e.g, online Chess, Scrabble, crosswords, etc.). Get him a subscription to Luminosity to keep his brain active and healthy. Get him online subscriptions to magazines of interest to him.
