How To Gain Control Of Your Work Life Again

How can I take control of my life in a 9 to 5 job?

Unfortunately, it's really hard to love your life unless you love what you spend half your waking hours doing. I think maybe that's what you're experiencing. And before I get into the real answer, PLEASE don't let anyone tell you to adjust your expectations. Or that it's okay because everyone hates their jobs. Don't accept that as your reality. It doesn't have to be. Especially if you're willing to put in the hard work of changing your situation. So what to do?Basically, quit your job. And do it soon. Like really really soon. Like immediately. Time is on your side, but it won't always be.I'll explain…You see, the really good news is that you're in your early 20s and already asking this question. This gives you some very important advantages. Try not to underestimate them:You probably have a very low cost base. I assume no kids and no large household expenses. The true cos of taking time off work to retool your job related skills or experiment with careers is low. It will probably never be this low again. So take advantage. And, assuming you have no family yet, you can move pretty easily. This is huge. You can go to where the jobs you want are. It will probably never be this easy to move again. So take advantage. You haven't specialized yet and presumably don't command a large salary yet. So your opportunity cost is low. It will probably never be this low again. So take advantage. So here is where you need to spend your time. And I suggest doing this as quickly as possible so you can stop racking up debt and start earning again, hopefully doing something you actually enjoy:Figure out what industries and skills are growing and in demand. Then figure out which ones are interesting to you. Jobs are interesting and careers are fun when you are NEEDED, and APPRECIATED, and PAID WELL. Find areas where those things are happening. Here are some examples:NursingITProgramming / SoftwareAnd, just for fun, here are examples of things not to pursue unless you do so at a very academically prestigious school (and btw, these are fascinating topics, they're just far less marketable).MathEconomicsGovernmentPhilosophyEtcYou're only young once. Don't take it for granted.Hope that's helpful.Good luck!

My mom controls my life?

I'm 17 and online schooled. My mom is often home and I'm so sick of her always controlling my life. I rarely go anywhere alone because I can't drive yet (again because of her). I picked up a learner's booklet already. I almost lost a job because she came with me to drop off my resume. Whenever I go shopping, she always criticizes my choices and what I should/shouldn't buy. Even though it's my money. I don't have any friends or a boyfriend because of her. I'm so sick of her being around me so much, she ruins my life literally. I don't go anywhere because she controls my life, I'm 17 its not like I'm 12. She really needs to get off my back and I'm already going to move out in a year but she needs to back off. Also, I have to do everything for her, sometimes even pay her bills, she's so irresponsible, controlling, and doesn't know her priorities. What should I do?
