How To Get A Truck Driver Job In Usa For A Foreigner

What is the life of Indian truck driver in USA?

I cannot answer your question directly because I am not an Indian truck driver. I am aware of various “minority” truck drivers. If you can afford to study for another better paying career and enjoy it somewhat, I would not become a truck driver. If you need a quick, good paying career transition then truck driving can be that place to go.Truck drivers share truckstop facilities like TV rooms and spaces where they can sit and eat/write (outside of a restaurant in the truckstop). I have not noticed any discomfort around Indian truck drivers. Because I am not Indian, I am not going to easily notice Indian driver discomfort.Apparently because of the increase in Satellite Radio there has been a decrease in listening to Channel 19 on the CB (local road conditions). A lot of conversation used to be very common.I believe the life of a truck driver in a developed country is significantly safer than in a less developed country. That said, there are geographically troubling spots where drivers are shot (some urban areas) and killed as well as places where drivers (no matter what race) are less welcomed. Parking safely is always an issue. As a driver you are more likely to come to harm because you are in a dangerous, active environment (the road). You get good money for a small amount of training. You are well paid but you are away from your family and home for extended periods. The result is you lose continuity with your home/home community.Once you start driving it is tiring enough that it is difficult to study online (or nearly anyplace else) for your exit/next career.I wish you well.Tom

Live legally in the UKTake a UK Driving Test to obtain a UK Driving LicensePay for and attend an HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Driver Training VourseCourseTake and Pass an HGV Driving Test to obtain the necessary permissions on your Driving LicenseApply for, and get, a job. Some companies, I believe, require you to own your own cab/tractor unit.

How can I, as a foreigner, get admitted into a truck driving school in Canada?

You have to first have permission to work in Canada. Then you need to have a visa for the particular occupation that you will be competing for, and have the employer send a letter to immigration canada that there are no applicants who have applied for the job, be able to be trained here in Canada. In short you are asking how to jump the queue to get to Canada, while not be ing trained in anything specific. It does not work like that in Canada, where you apply to truck school because you need job. What happens is you need enough money to attend school, then find job in things that you are good at already.I you have qualifications from previous work, and know how to read road signs and be able to think quick, you might get hired by a trucking company and be placed on a “temporary foreign worker” placement. It is rare, but possible. The other way is to get training to drive truck in your home country, then apply the skills of driving to operating progressively larger trucks. When you get proficient, and have had no accidents, then apply a a trained foreign worker.

Can I immigrate to Canada as a truck driver?

Let me answer this while trying to be respectful - but your chances of doing this are just about zero.Being a commercial truck driver in Canada is not a skilled position - it requires no specific status or training beyond passing the test for the license. There are many Canadian Citizens and existing Permanent Residents who have this licensing, or can get it easily because of their previous work experience. There is presently a downturn in the oil industry and most likely a surplus of people with these qualifications. When they do get jobs, they tend to be contract positions, time-based, or seasonal. They are rarely permanent positions. So it is very unlikely that you will get a job offer from a Canadian company to work in this capacity, despite your commercial license and experience in a foreign country, and then acquire the status of being a Permanent Resident. You will then have to spend 4 of 6 years in Canada as a Permanent Resident before applying for Citizenship, and only then can you apply to join the military. There are no age restrictions for applying as long as you can receive your training before you are 60, but the older you are, the more difficult it would be to meet the physical requirements. In terms of education, you need a 10th grade education equivalent to apply for the most basic role, with higher educational requirements required for specific assignments. Applying for entry as an officer would require a university degree from an institution recognized by the Canadian Government.I would venture to say that your aspirations far exceed your credentials. Not only are there a lot of commercial truck drivers in Canada, it is easy to retrain to be one in a relatively short time. Seven weeks of daytime classes, or ten weeks of evening classes. And that would be accredited training from a Community College in Canada. While your training and experience may be very good, it is difficult to sort the quality and honesty in foreign credentials and experience.

Is trucking in the USA a good job?

Trucking can be a great job. However, there are a lot of traps and pitfalls with Trucking. First of all trucking is a very sacrificial meaning that you will sacrifice a lot of time away from home and away from friends and family. You pretty much have to want to be in the trucking business, if you are over the road then don't expect to see home very often. I just met a guy at the Pilot truck stop in Flatwoods West Virginia who hasn't been home since October 7th.The biggest thing you have to consider in trucking is that it is a very broad based industry. You have LTL, specialized hauling, container hauling, Regional and short-haul. A lot of the LTL carriers in my opinion have great job opportunities because the pay is so well and you are home everyday if you are a city driver for instance. If you're lucky enough can get a job with a union carrier such as YRC then you have a secure future with a great pension. My nephew is 45 years old and he has been in the teamsters since he was 21 and has a very Secure Retirement. You have to choose the company that best suits your lifestyle and how you want to work. And be aware that recruiters will tell you anything under the sun just to get you in their seat.Driver pay is certainly on the Rise but it is not up to where it should be. It still has a ways to go but all in all if you work for a good company and have a good dispatcher then you can have a decent career this business.

How an Indian citizen can become a truck driver in USA?

From what I have seen in the application process, as long as you can show/prove that you have the legal right to work in the United States, you can get a Class A license, just as with any citizen.  I would recommend for you to call Swift Transport- (888) 772-3109 and talk to them.  You may decide to go with someone else {definately do NOT go with the first one you talk to, the phone calls are free, and the pay difference can be over $800 a month}.   There are in my opinion, better companies {more pay, better home time, etc.}, but they would be the one that would know for sure what is required.   Its just that they are one of the largest and have a reputation for hiring anybody.  Due to their high volume of new driver hires, I really think they would be able to answer any and all questions for you.   On their behalf, I have met several drivers that have been over 10 years with Swift.  But, I know how they pay and other companies home time.  Also, every trucker I have talked to knows stories of horrible truck drivers from Swift, they have a reputation. dave.

Foreigner joining US military and FBI?

I'm Lithuanian and I'm studying philosophy bachelor studies here in Lithuania. I would like to become an US citizen after I finish studying (which will be in exactly one year from now). I plan to do this by joining US military and fast tracking to citizenship. Do you think this will work?
The more complicated thing is, I would like to join intelligence agencies, like FBI when I gain citizenship. Now this is not that easy. I have read on internet that main requirements are these:

Speaking a foreign language fluently
Having specialized computer skills
Earning an advanced college degree
The specific requirements for an FBI Special Agent are as follows:

You must be a United States Citizen, between the ages of 23 and 37
You must have an accredited four-year college or university degree (no exceptions)
You must have three years of professional work experience
You must have a valid driver's license and be available for assignment anywhere in the FBI's jurisdiction

The part that I have a question about is the three years professional work requirement. Is serving the US military for three years considered professional work? Also perhaps I should take major studies too? Please share any thoughts you have, including criticism and valuable tips and your own experiences. All input is greatly appreciated!
