Take the initial test which is how many push ups you can do in one go. Then do the training session it gives you based off of how many you did.

How can I get better at doing push ups?

Im trying to join the Army, and I know that I will have to do push ups. Currently, I have been told that at MEPs, I will have to do 13 push ups just to be able to join the Army. I have no problem at running the one mile in under 8 minutes 30 seconds (I run it at 7minutes 40 secs or so, but always under the time limit). I was told I have to do 17 sit ups in two minutes; I have been doing 34 to 40. And Im 227lbs, according to my recruiter, I need to loose 10 to 15lbs and 2 to 4 inches off my waist ( I was 285lbs when I first met with my recruiter) Yet, when it comes to the push ups, I barely get to 5 or 6 and then I can't push myself back up.

Can you give me some tips on how to get better at doing push ups?
Also, any tips on getting rid of the last 10 to 15lbs? I can't seem to loose anymore and I jog, walk, swim, and do aerobics daily.

Thanks in advance...

I'm 13 and I can't do push ups?

Yea you sound like me about 3 years ago and im 13 well 14 in a few weeks so start off in a holding position about the length of when you go down and hold and for dear life until you cant go. Do this about 3 times a day about 20-30 minutes apart and 5 days a week(alternating days) and you soon be ready for the first test. When you feel your ready dont rush yourself but start to go down and repeat as many times as you can, then at that point, force yourself 1 more and lay on you back and feel the pump in your arms. It feels great if you do it right. Then each day or week raisw your pushup count by 1 but why pushups??? Pullups work out almost every muscle in your upper body. I can do above 30 pushups but i havent done them for a long time. And i can do about 12-30 pullups. Again, dont rush yourself and go at your own pace

How can I do 50 pushups straight?

Practice...do them every other day (give your muscles time to rest) as many as you can...you should be able to build up...when you've done as many as you can on your toes, drop to your knees and do more until you physically can't...

Also look up types of pushups...different ones target different muscles...there are standard, military, tricep, diamond, one-arm, and decline (just to name a few)...
