How To Get Into Acting

How do I get into acting in LA.?

Join all of the online actors' sites (LAcasting, actors access, Backstage, etc).If you don't have experience auditioning on-camera then take a class that will help prepare you for the auditioning process. I would recommend Amy Lyndon's course. She's very thorough in preparing you for the business.Get some good theatrical and commercial head shots that represent you accurately.Once you're comfortable with the auditioning process start submitting yourself for everything you can via the sites above (student films, short films, etc). This way you will learn to handle audition jitters easily and will gain some credits to put on your resume.Your next step, once you have some credits and are comfortable in front of casting directors, is to find a good representative (i.e. a manager and/or an agent). Start going to some agent showcases. Unless you get extrordinarily lucky, your first agent will be at a B or C level office. Even if you could get into an A-list agency right away, you probably don't want to. As an unknown you'll be very low on their priority list and won't be provided with a lot of opportunities. Starting off with a lower level agency that actually works for you is much better initially until you can work your way up with more serious credits.Your next step depends on the kind of acting you want to do. The way you approach your career progression for tv and film is different. Also, do you want to do sitcoms, soaps, comedy, drama, etc? Feel free to contact me for further details on this last point.

How do I get into acting? I have no money for head shots, I don’t want to be famous. I just love acting.

How do I get into acting? I have no money for head shots, I don’t want to be famous. I just love acting. Then that’s easy!Join classes! Search up your age group, city, and the term ‘acting classes’ and find something you like. When registration for classes is open and there’s one you’re interested in (I know for a fact that the place I go to has a beginner’s class for adults), register and take that class. Usually they’re no experience necessary, and if they are it’ll say on the site and/or be implied (ie if it says ‘advanced’ or ‘acting 2’

How can you get into acting?

Well, you don't say where you're from, but where ever you are I would say to get into classes and workshops and if you're in school take advantage of whatever productions they're doing there. Look into local theatre as well. Basically get involved in everything, get all the experience you can.

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. You can also see if your state has a film alliance. Sometimes they post audition information for projects filming locally. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying.

Remember that although it takes money to get started (headshots, living expenses, classes, etc.) you NEVER pay an agent or manager or anyone until THEY help you get an actual job, They get paid AFTER you do.

Good luck!

What is a good way to get into acting?

Start with school/community/children's theatre. Get into acting classes, too. If there isn't a local acting studio or school, ask the school's theatre director if he/she can give you private lessons after school. Most of the time they will, and will do so for little/no money.
