How To Get Into College Help

Can connections help you get into college?

I know it totally depends on GPA, rank, AP classes, activities, etc. but if one did decently in high school in all of those areas, could connections help with admission?

My grandfather & father have close connections with deans & admission committees of colleges all over the country, including UPenn, Columbia, & USC. They are always telling me about how I could easily gain admission to these colleges because of them. Obviously I don't want to go to a college because my family had connections, but are they right? I am an above average (not top notch) student & I was wondering if connections would help. Probably not Ivies, but selective colleges or ones that are in the top 20.

Help on Getting into College!!!?

I think she means 82.65/100, or an approx. GPA of 3.03. Her school may not give GPAs on the 4.0 scale, as all high schools are different. Try and do well, and if you get a good score on your SAT or ACT exam, and have an array of extracurricular activities, mainly sports or leadership skills --you should get in! Best of luck!

I need help getting into college please help :(?

Hi guys. So I’m a highschool senior and it is now February, and I’m hoping to get into university of Memphis. Their deadline says May or June which confuses me because why are people so pressured to apply now if some schools have late deadlines? Anyways I think my GPA Is like a 2.4, maybe a little higher or lower. I only took the ACT once, and got an 18. I plan on getting a book and studying hard and take it in April and get maybe a 21 or 22. Should I apply now and will they get my updated score later? Is there no way I can get in with my 18? Is their deadline actually in May or am I reading some other information? Someone please answer all of these, and I would seriously be so thankful.

Does Band in High School Help you Get Into a College?

Band is a great EC. It enhances your application. 4 years of debate is also quite good, depending on your proposed major.

Also make sure you take 4 years of a useful language. Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, Russian, or Portuguese [Brazilian].

Good SAT or ACT scores

The so-called Ivies accept about 10% of highly qualified applicants. Have back-up schools.

Do edx courses help in getting into colleges in US?

It’s yes and no actually. See the courses which are taught at Edx, Coursera, Udemy are merely not enough as they just give you a glimpse on the subject. It is up to you to continue the course on your own post-course. And if you’re really lucky the instructor which you have taken class from Edx or Coursera you can actually contact him on Likedin or any social Networking site showing your interest In the same field which he taught you he’ll be really glad to help you and If your project idea is really really good then he’s ready to interact with you. After you’re project has been done you can write GRE and TOEFL get a good score and then get an LOR from the same teacher whom you had been working with on your project and if you have really successfully comepleted the project under him then he’s gonna help you study at that college where he/she teaches you. He can really try to get you into the same college where he teaches you and mind me these teacher( who are experts in their field) really have the power to decide who comes to their university and who doesn’t. I’m not saying you can 100% go there but atleast you’ll have the upper hand. Let’s say (actually it’s an actually figure) acceptance rate into MIT is around 4% but if you happen to know this guy and he helps you get there your percentage of getting accepted increases to 10 maybe 15% which is great. So here’s the summary: try to complete the course, get good interest in that field, try to work on your project which you’re excited about, try to contact him thru email or LinkedIn and try to ask for his help, ask questions, work hard and finally you’ll have the upper hand. All the best!

Will being 1/16 native american help me get into college?

It makes no difference what you look like or how traditional you are.

If you are enrolled in a “Federally Recognized Tribe”. You can claim to be Native American..... You will be required to PROVE IT.... A "Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood" is generally accepted as proof of enrollment.

If you are NOT enrolled in a “Federally Recognized Tribe”. You can NOT claim to be Native American.
==============

It will not help you to get into college, but will allow you to compete for Native American scholarships.

Will staying in marching band help me get into college?

WOW!!! I was in the same exact place seven years ago—my school’s band got cut from a 7 period to 6 period day. 90% of my friends quit.I was one of two seniors left in band. I switched from trumpet (my main instrument) to tuba, and took lessons, because our band didn’t have a tuba.Stay in Marching Band. Hear me out. It’s not about about your friends. It’s not about the quality of your music. It’s about your personal leadership skills and character. Here’s why:When I graduated, I got every single band award available. Why? Because I was the only one qualified; I was the only one who cared. I refused to jump ship just because my friends did.when I got to Cornell, they wanted me in the marching band because I could play Tuba. I was wayyyy worse than anyone else in band, from a musical perspective. But guess what? I was in a great environment of talented individuals and got way better musically in a short time. The music difficulty was way over my head. It was a great challenge. I couldn’t believe how much better I became.I got to watch sporting events and play music at Cornell… two of my favorite things! Band also needed leadership positions, so I became Treasurer for a year.I didn’t stay in band for my whole time at Cornell, and I learned way more from the experience than I did from the music. This is about much more than music or friendship. It’s about character—sticking with something even when everyone else drops out.Remember: the captain always goes down with the ship, leaders eat last, and any other sort of leadership cliche you can think of.It’s your call, but you have an easy choice to Establish your reputation, today, as someone who sticks with a challenge even when others quit.
