How can black men's hair be softened?

Here’s what I do with my hair:I only use sulfate free shampoo and that’s because the sulfate removes all of the oil present inside the hair. You can use brands like Cantu, Shea Moisture or Palmers. As for the conditionner get one from the same shampoo brand you choose.I put lotion on it twice a week or sometimes even once a week, depending on how long your hair can stay without getting dry. But since your hair is really tough, you can do that more often. I recommend using ORS Olive Oil Hair Lotion. If you can get a spray bottle, fill it with warm water and 4 drips of Argan oil, that could help a lot. You just need to spray some of it on your hair everyday after your shower, then comb it if you want. Although I’d highly recommend you comb it in order to avoid having messy hair.

How do you bring life back to dry, damaged, curly hair?

The answer to all this problem is "moisture moisture moisture". Curly hair is naturally dry hair so you have to keep feeding them with moisture regularly. Here are few things you can follow to keep it healthy and manageable.Keep your  hair well moisturized using good products that are silicone and sulfate free. Sulfates are detergents you find in shampoos and are a bit harsh for curly hair. It strips hair off of its natural oil and leaves it very dry. Silicone creates a film on hair and is hard to remove from hair. Heavy use of silicone products leads to build up on hair which do not let the moisture penetrate the hair. Due to this your hair gets dry over a period of time and loses its curl shape as well. Do not use any hair serum as these contains heavy silicone in more concentration. Use deep conditioning treatments at least once in a week. Choose products that has humectants in it for deep conditioning. Humectants absorb water and penetrate hair and retain moisture inside the hair.  Here are some homemade recipes that you can follow All natural home-made hair masks - Right RingletsUse cold pressed coconut oil to moisturize your hair and try to keep it overnight. Do not use heat on hair. Heat damages your hair cuticles and when cuticles are damaged then it becomes hard for hair to retain moisture as your inner layer is exposed and loses moisture fast.Protect your hair in the sun, wear cap or scarves. Do not use comb on dry hair as it might lead to breakage. Always detangle your hair in the shower after applying a rinse off conditioner. After wash, apply small amount of oil or whipped shea butter on hair after applying a leave-in conditioner. It helps to coat hair and prevent it to lose moisture very fast. It surely gives a moisturized curls.  Here is the whipped shea butter recipe Homemade natural shea butter moisturizer for hair and skin - Right Ringlets.Do not use styling products like hair sprays that contain drying alcohol like alcohol denat, SD alcohol etc. These short chain alcohol makes your hair dry. What are some hair styling tips for Asian men?

I'm an Asian guy, and I totally know what you mean about the hair sticking up-- apparently our hair is stronger and thicker and resists flattening down smoothly like white people hair! But that's not to worry; if you grow out the hair on the sides of your head to 3-4 inches, you can use a bit of pomade to keep it down while playing with interesting looks for the rest of your 'do! You can keep some bangs 4-5 inches long in the front of your face. This is versatile because you sweep them to the side, sweep them back (upward), or let them dangle over your forehead. In addition, you can cut the hair on the top of your head to 2-4 inches and play with some pomade/gel. This can contrast the conservative-looking side part of your bangs, for example, with a messy, just-out-of-bed look for the rest of your hair, an interesting juxtaposition that she is sure to notice. To do this, first wet your hair slightly (a shower and slightly drying it with a towel works great, or a spray bottle filled with water), and get some pomade or gel (Crew or the Japanese Gatsby Moving Rubber, for example). Put it on your fingers. Mess up your hair so it sticks up, possibly mostly waving in one direction, and rises maybe 1-2 inches from your head.To keep the hair on the sides of your head from sticking up, first wet your hair slightly. Get some pomade (American Crew seems popular, find a hold that works for you) and smoosh a small bit among your palms this time. Run them down the hair on the sides of your head, and finish by using a blow dryer at a 45 degree angle facing down and outward, held a few inches above your head for each side. The blow dryer will dry your wet, pomade-d hair in a downward direction and keep the hold for the rest of the day, helping your pomade keep loose hairs from springing up. The key is to smooth down the sides AFTER you do the top of your head, or else you'll mess up your perfectly-messed-up look! Remember to wash the remaining gunk off your hands!
