How To Get The Black Stains Out Of My Vw Beetle Convertible Top

2007 VW Beetle Convertible.. Review? Advice?

I wouldn't believe the first inquiry too much - VWs are ranked among Mercerdes and BMWs typically in their performance and ability.

I look at the vehicle in two ways - the body type and the engine make.

The body is a revision since 2004 of the original 1998 hardtop design - pretty solid in general. In 2005, they made some crucial positive changes to the window actions with the top.

The engine is brand new - the 2005 model had the older 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which has now switched to a large 2.5L 5-cylinder engine. The press isn't out how well it's been performing over the long run, but VW has banked on this engine for almost every car it has, so it should be pretty solid.

I have the 2005 NB Convertible and I think it's a decent car. In the snow, it's one of the best handling car and this has been true since the original 1998 design. When the top is up, you should realize that the car has some pretty good unavoidable blindspots because there is a major piece of tarp up where your vision would normally would be. When the top is down, the vision is more superior than any other car normally.

The windstop is crucial for travel with the top down at temps of 55 F or higher. The windstop really does work well and is standard with all new models (not standard in 2005). The windstop does remove the back seat essentially. In summer temps, travel is good on city streets with the top down, and okay on highways for short distances.

As for dog hair, clean up is very easy because top down cleaning means you can vaccuum easier than any other car. The vinyl seats do not crack or chip at all (like circa 1970's cars) and will not collect dog hair.

You should know the size of the trunk - it is very small compared to most cars - however compared to most convertibles it is a decent size. Compared to other covertibles, the VW Beetle is immense (compared to Miata and BMW counterparts) and only a Cadillac is larger in size interior-wise.

Finally, as for copying your friend, not the case. There is an unsaid code among all VW NB Convert owners to wave to one another, getting stared at for having an awesome car is something you should get used to. It does happen because people wish they were having as much fun as you.

Changing color of convertible top?

A spray paint won't cut it... it's not a permanent solution. What are the only two solutions?

1) Replace the top choosing the color that you want.

2) Depending on the year and type of top... you might be able to have it dyed to black. The good news... is that you chose BLACK. Why? Black covers everything and if necessary? The person that does the dye job can do it 2 or 3 times until coverage is complete and the coloring is consistent across the whole top. For other colors... that's not possible because they cannot cover a darker color or the color you choose darkens too much because it has to be done more than once thus you don't end up with the color that you wanted. At least... in the shade you wanted. You're fortunate... you chose the best color for dye. Congrats!

What is a potential downside...? If the top is too old, it may not be worth attempting to dye it. If it was ever repaired... dying it may make the repairs more visible or even cause them to stick out like neon colors on white. Also... dying the underside of the top won't be possible unless the top is disassembled... and even then? It may prove to be problematic because it has to be put back together. That can be tricky with an old top... they love to tear or rip.

In any case, there is some food for thought. If you're interested in dye applications, check with detail shops and upholstery shops. Best wishes!

Help with a 1973 VW Beetle?

Before you start doing anything, get a good book on the subject. Here is one that can be downloaded free of charge from the internet

Next plan what you want to do first. This will largely be dictated by the budget that you have. Remember 'Rome was not built in a day'.

Also read up as much as you can on these two sites. Both give a wealth of information;

and

Preserve it, rather than wreck it. The longer that you own it, the fonder you will grow of it. Restore it to its former glory and become the proud owner of a piece of classic history.

Is 1432 firing order on a 74 vw super beetle is this corect.?

I think so, not to sure about a 74 but on older ones it's stamped on the sheet metal tht is on top of the cylinders, right next to the spark plugs, each plug has a number, the newest VW ihave is a 70 also aftermarket sheet metal does'nt have it, and alot of guys swap the stock stuff for that cheap chrome crap, I hope that helps

71 VW Sandrail backfiring and spitting. I need professional help!?

I see two possible sources.

1) Your fuel system may have an issue: Check your carb. When you floor the carb. it gives an extra squirt of gas into the throat to get it moving and this may be enough to overcome the slow and shaky actions that you get with gradual acceleration. Try some carb cleaner to see if you have a bit of cr*p in there. It could also be that the jet on the carb has clogged. If either of these is the case consider how the dirt got there (air cleaners ok?) to avoid future and more expensive problems. Worst case you will need a new carb, but its an easy job to swap out the webbers for an older but good one to check the theory first if you have an old one around.

2) Ignition: Your main coil or the one in the distributor may be going out. Under load it is just fine but it studddddders at slow speed.

As a side thought it might also be a fuel pump. At slow speeds it could not be delivering enough pressure.. at higher speeds the carb's vacume helps pull the fuel in.. but a good see-thru fuel filter will tell you that.

hope this helps

Which color Beetle should I get?

Yellow is very common and looks good, but I like dark metallic blue best.
It looks even better on the black convertible top, with the chrome strip separating them.

Why do I keep getting bugs in my car? ?

I have a 2002 Mustang convertible. Last July I parked in a parking garage for two days and ended up with a major ant infestation. It took months to get rid of them through a combination of ant baits and spraying bug and tar remover around the engine compartment. It was a nightmare.

I now seem to have gnats living somewhere near the drivers side window (possibly inside it?). What's going on here?! I do NOT eat or drink in the car and try not to park under trees or in grass if possible. I always keep it super clean inside and out. I do live in Florida though so there are bugs everywhere. Could the fact that the car's a convertible have something to do with bugs liking to live in it? The windows and top line up pretty evenly and there don't seem to be any gaps.
