How To Have A No Argue School Year

Can it be rationally argued that it is legal for a high school teacher to have sex with an 18-year-old student?

If the student is above the legal age of consent, then it is legal for them to engage in sexual activity with anyone else of legal age.  It may not be ethical, and it may not be moral, and it may result in consequences for the teacher, but in most states of the US it's not illegal to do so.Alter the age of the student downward, and it's an entirely different matter. However, in the case presented, the teacher is being charged not with statutory rape, or rape of any kind.  Instead, she is being charged under the "official misconduct" law in New Jersey, which seems to be a questionable use of such law (to me):2C:30-2.  Official MisconductA public servant is guilty of official misconduct when, with purpose to obtain a benefit for himself or another or to injure or to deprive another of a benefit:  a. He commits an act relating to his office but constituting an unauthorized exercise of his official functions, knowing that such act is unauthorized or he is committing such act in an unauthorized manner; orb. He knowingly refrains from performing a duty which is imposed upon him by law or is clearly inherent in the nature of his office.Official misconduct is a crime of the second degree. If the benefit obtained or sought to be obtained, or of which another is deprived or sought to be deprived, is of a value of $200.00 or less, the offense of official misconduct is a crime of the third degree.L.1978, c. 95, s. 2C:30-2, eff. Sept. 1, 1979. Amended by L.1979, c. 178, s. 61, eff. Sept. 1, 1979.Ref: http://www.njlawman.com/new-jers...

Some argue that Creation should not be taught in schools so students can choose for themselves what they should believe. But if no creationist idea is presented in the classroom, how can they make a choice?

It is laughable to suggest “creationism” should be allowed in schools, because if we go against science and the collective knowledge and massively extensive body of scientific research, we go backwards as a species! (science works, you are reading this right now thanks to science!) Not to mention, that why stop at a single version of Christianity? then you would have to be “inclusive”, you know that buzzword of the far left? So every culture and religion should have a say right? Why don’t we push for the study of Aboriginal culture in schools? The Aboriginal peoples have been around for 50,000+ years, well before that Abrahamic nonsense people believe in, Why isn’t the Rainbow Serpent taught in schools outside Australia??? The Dreaming is a far deeper and respectful story of the “creation” of the universe. We use science as a method of understanding, we are living longer because of medicine, we are able to communicate better through outcomes from physics and maths, that lead to the development of industry and technology. We have advanced so far in-spite of religion and its archaic ways. Creationism is a massive step backwards, that is “why”.

Does it make sense to go to law school if you "like to argue"?

You’ve got some great answers here already, I thought I’d contribute because I can very much relate to this question. Here’s a little (real life) story for you.Two brothers. Both very intelligent. The older brother loves to argue and is very manipulative. The younger brother is more introverted, analytical. Both brothers end up at law school. Both graduate with high grades. Both end up becoming lawyers. Both are successful. What is the difference between them? The younger brother is a partner at his firm, specialising in intellectual property. He has worked his way up the corporate ladder slowly, but surely. He is considered to be one of the best in his field because of his ability to see the whole picture whilst paying incredible attention to detail. The older brother started his own firm. He travels the world as he practices public international law, which involves lots of litigation. He works on his own because he likes things done his way. He has an awful reputation amongst judges, and many lawyers. But the clients - the clients they love him. Yes, he charges extortionate rates, but he wins the most complex cases of our time. Argumentative, manipulative, stubborn - but also very intelligent.Moral of the story: People go to law school for various reasons. If you like to argue for the sake of arguing, it won’t take you far. But if you ‘like to argue’ because you realise that confrontation and debate makes the world advance, then you may just make it as a lawyer. Not everyone will like it, but your persistence will make you successful.

Have you ever been in a fight in school?

Yes, I am currently suspended for one as we speak. I go back to school monday.Okay, so here’s how it happens. A friend from my old school (let’s call him Crisp), fed up with conceited girls from his school, starts talking to people outside of his place of education. He ends up going on a few dates with a girl from my school. They click very well, but she can’t stop talking about this boy (Let’s call him Zyan) and how creepy he is and how he won’t stop annoying her.Things are going really well, and my friend is about to ask her to be his girlfriend and boom. She’s taken.Turns out about two hours beforehand, Mr. Oh-So-Annoying Zyan asked her out, and I guess he wasn’t that much of a nuisance to her, because they were dating now.My friend is a pretty sensitive guy, and he took this hard. He was completely wronged, and I was furious. I decided to stay reasonably diplomatic. I approached the couple (holding hands, naturally) in the hallway at school and asked the girl (let’s call her Jaid) about it.Me: Hey, so what happened with you and Crisp?Jaid: Fuck off.Me: Why’d you have to do that to him?Jaid: He’s just mad he’s not with me * her and zyan laugh*Me: *fake sarcasm shit* Wow… you’re actually proud of that, aren’t you?Zyan: How about you fuck off?Me: *still addressing Jaid* You know, I’d call you a whore, but that would imply that any man would want anything to do with you…*addresses Zyan now* … and you, sir, are not a motherfucking man.Zyan: *pushes me* Crisp is a bitch cunt. He’s just mad I stole his bitch.*ding ding ding*And then the fight was on. Well, to call it a fight you need two people throwing punches. Shit was no contest. I got the stomach area right between his ribs, winding him, punched him again in the chest plate and then got to work on his face. His nose was bleeding and he had a bruise on his face the size of a birthmark.I broke a knuckle and got four days out. Completely worth it.6/3/18 Update: Zayn came up to me at school, agreed with me about what was said about Jade, and asked if we were all good. I’m still not sure he was in the right, but I don’t need more enemies. We’re not beefing any more.

School fight-pressing charges for battery?

I think I would ask the principal to discipline him, rather than dumping this in your lap. Criminal charges aren't necessary, but he should have some consequences. Have your parents talk to the principal about it.

And, you're right, it will not be an issue in two weeks. I think I'd let it go in terms of filing any charges.

If you're an 18 year old high school student involved in a fight, what are the consequences?

If the police get involved, you have a criminal record for the rest of your life. And if the other person/people in the fight are 17 or under, that criminal record will note it as a violent crime against a child. This means you'll face hurdles not only with having a family later on (should you choose this), but you'll also have problems travelling. Many countries reject anyone coming through the border with a criminal record offense involving a child. Heck, in Canada, our border security rejects anyone with drunk driving on their record. And we take crimes against minors so much more seriously. Not to mention that as an "adult", your name can be published as well. This means that any employer you seek will take one look at what you did, and might not give you an interview.Unless the other student is threatening your life at that exact moment, it's probably best to do whatever it takes to avoid a confrontation like this. This is your whole life, which is more important than anything they say to defame you as a person, anything they say to hurt your feelings, anything. Of course, make sure there's a security camera around (or people with their phones out) to catch the whole thing if you plan on hitting back, should they cross the line between words and fists..

Debate: Should discipline be instilled by school and not the parents?

1) This is a value judgement debate so you have to show which is of greater value the school or parents in disciplining children.

2) 1st Argument:MORE TIME IN SCHOOL -Children spend most of their day up to 8 hours even in school, 5 days a week. The school is called the second home for a reason, and now parents are having to spend more time at work instead of at home because of the economic recession etc.

3) 2nd Argument:THE SCHOOL'S PURPOSE -The school's purpose is to prepare and educate the students for real life. One could argue that it is in the student's best interest as well as the school's to instill values which could prove to be beneficial.

4) DEFINITION - When you define exactly how this discipline would be done, I would stay as far away from corporal punishment as possible.

5)That's all I could think of, we debated this once and it's really leaning towards opp. It depends a lot on your set up so hopefully your 1st speaker will do well.

Good Luck!

Everyone bullies me at school. I have no friends and my parents are always arguing loudly. Is my life worth living?

Try praying to help in your situation. I hope it gets better soon.
