How To Have Smooth Hair And Make It Stand Stiff Without Hair Gel

How can I make my hair stand up WITHOUT using hair gel?

I used to have straight helmet hair, and I didn't like it. One time I tried to use hair gel, and it looked pretty cool, but all my friends figured out I was using it and teased me about it. Therefore, I couldn't go to their houses, or viceversa to sleep without using hair gel in the morning. That is why I found another way to make it stand. I just don't use shampoo when I shower. It DOES make my hair stand up, but it also makes it look REALLY dirty. My parents figured out I don't use shampoo and now are obliging me to do it (which I also KINDA want to do, since my hair looks so greasy and dirty), but if I do, my hair would go back to looking ridiculous in that helmet hair style.
Is there a way for my hair to stand up, WITHOUT using hair gel, or any other product that I would have to apply every morning?

Would the curls stay in my hair without hairspray or gel?

Since your hair was relaxed several years ago, I would think that most of it has grown out by now, so that is not a factor. Unless you have half and half hair now.. .that can be more difficult to work with.

Once hair is properly curled, it will stay that way forever, until another force is applied to change it. The only thing that will make the curl form or relax is water (moisture). Heat works on the same principle as water, and I am putting it in the same category.

Water alters the bonds that hold the hair in any shape. When you get the hair wet after a shampoo, it soften the hair slightly, and you can mould it into any shape you want. Once the hair dries in that position, it will stay that way until it gets wet again. Heat works exactly the same way -- by softening the hair into a new shape, and cooling locks it in.

Some hair does not have enough bonds inside to hold any new shape. The weight will pull it straight, but a curl will form on the ends. If the internal structure is very weak (fine hair or damaged hair), there is nothing for the new shape to hold onto, and the hair will not curl.

Set your hair after a shampoo on rollers, using a little bit of styling aids. This can be a gel, or mousse, or spray.... each is a little different in form, but does the same job to a certain extent. Let the hair dry completely and thoroughly and the curl will stay there.

Using heat implements to curl hair works the same, but is not as long-lasting. But done well, can last a day at least. Most people have no idea how to use the curling irons, and they ruin their hair that way; this is permanent damage that can never be repaired. Please learn to use them correctly.

If you live in a humid area, your curls will not last as long. Moisture in the air will get into the hair, and will release the temporary set -- it will revert to its natural state, either curly or straight.

I don't like hairsprays because they really don't do much. They attract dust and dirt and moisture and make your hair dirty and lose its set quickly. They are okay for emergencies, but only for that one day. It's better not to use it.

Set your hair on wet rollers, or hot rollers, or with a curling iron. Each will give you a different look. Try them all. And keep your hair dry for long-lasting results.

I'm a guy, and when my hair is dry without any gel or anything I comb it back but it doesn't go back at all. It puffs up. I want my hair to go back and be flat and stay back. Are there any home remedies?

The reason your hair stands up is because of the grain of your hair. Hair grows in one direction and has a grain, much like wood. When you brush your hair back you are brushing against the grain. The hair will stand up, but it won't want to lie down in the opposite direction of growth. To get immediate results you need to use product to weigh the hair down. Gel, wax, pomade and hair spray will all work for this purpose. To get results without using product you need to train the hair the lie in another direction. You can do this by blow drying the hair in the direction you want it to lie, then wearing a headband to keep it in place. Over time the hair will be trained to stay that way. This is easier to do when you are just changing the direction or placement of a part with longer hair, a lot harder to do with a whole head of shorter hair. It will take a long time, and you may still look a little puffy.I think you would be more successful using hair wax to weigh the hair down. It's made of natural wax, no synthetic additives and does not dry out the hair.

How to make long hair stand straight up stiff?

Grab each section of your hair, about an inch wide, and pull it up straight. Take a fine tooth comb or teasing comb and comb from the roots, but comb down towards your scalp.

Continue this thoroughly all the way to the tips and hair spray in place. Do this all over and finish off with more spray. It might help to pull gel or wax through the hair before and after.

How to make hair straight but not stiff?

If you use a flat iron
It won't be stiff
