How To Heal/clean A Lip Piercing

Is my Lip Piercing Healed?

Hi, i got it done 6 weeks ago. Let me space it out.

Week 1 - All fine, had been pierced with metal labret stud. Rinsing mouth with alchol free mouthwash. Is taking zinc supplements once a day.

Week 2 - End of week took out stud and put in clear retainer (clear stud). White ring formed around outside of the lip. Still continuing with alchol free mouthwash. Is taking zinc supplements once a day.

Week 3 - to present day - All good, pain free. Still alchol free mouthwash. Is taking zinc supplements once a day.

So has it healed? White ring around outside of piercing is still present.

Thanks.

Fastest way to heal a lip piercing?

don't use creams or ointments. also try to avoid peroxide and rubbing alcohol. jus clean it with a mild soap and water daily and also soak it in warm to hot water mixed with sea salt. you can find it at the grocery store.. it's salt without iodine in it. really helps with getting rid of crusties. and jus try not to mess with ur piercing a lot. :)

Can a lip piercing get infected after healing?

I've had my snake bites for about 2 years now and I clean them about every two weeks but sometimes right after cleaning them they smell like gauges.

I have studs in now but I used to wear rings and I think what happened was the inside of my lip got stretched from me spinning the rings around in circles so much and now it's made them like gauges but only on the inside.

One of my friends said he took his ring out because it kept getting infected even after he had it for about 5 months so I don't know if it's just me or what.

Is it okay to clean my lip piercing with bactine?

Most reputable professionals recommend NOT to use bactine. Bactine is not designed for puncture wounds and can actually leave a film on your jewelry that can attract bacteria and dirt. Gross. It's also drying and can irritate some people's skin.

Instead of bactine, you can use anti-bacterial soap twice a day at first. Along with the soap (or instead of) you can use sea salt soaks. To make a sea salt soak mix 1/4 teaspoon in 8oz warm water. Soak your piercing for a few minutes at a time. You can soak as often as you like. If you find the soaks drying, you can cut down on the salt.

Sea salt soaks encourage healing, help clean the area, and are not as harsh as bactine. You can find sea salt in most grocery stores in the spice eisle. It's probably around 4 dollars for more than enough salt to get you through healing your piercing. Soaks are an inexpensive solution to cleaning.

As you are healing, one of the most important aspects of cleaning is to avoid touching your piercing. NEVER touch it with hands that are not freshly washed. Don't play with the jewelry either. So no flipping it around with your mouth or chewing on it. The less you bother your piercing, the faster it will heal.

If you can leave your piercing alone, wash it carefully and give it a sea salt soak or two a day you should heal up just fine.

Can listerine clean piercings?

I wouldn't suggest it. Listerine contains alcohol which is to abrasive for your skin. As it may kill off bacteria, it also damages new skill cells that are trying to grow to heal the skin. Using Listerine will only make the healing process slower and not as effective. I would just stick to using sea salt and warm water to heal all your piercings. This will heal your skin and not cause you any further damage. You don't state where you were pierced. If it is an oral piercing, just swish the sea salt solution around in your mouth. If it is a surface piercing or ears, use a q tip to put the sea salt solution around your piercing. Hope this helps...

Im cleaning my lip piercing with rubbing alcohol, is this okay?

apply soapy water to it 2-3 times a day. good luck.

How long do i keep cleaning my lip piercing and how many times a day?

i got my lip pierced too. The piercer said, after every time you eat rinse your mouth out with listerine,it prevents the inside from getting infected. To get rid of the crust and clean the outside of the piercing (where the stud is) get warm water and put sea salt in it and use a Q-tip to clean around it. The crust is normal, trust me lol. You have to clean it regularly until the 6 weeks are up (it takes about 6 weeks for it to heal, he told me) I usually clean it 2 times a day when i wake up and before i go to sleep. However, the piercer also told me to NEVER touch your piercing with your hands because all the germs on your hands can infect it like no other. Don't use ear antispetic because it's a LIP piercing and some products react differently with different piercings. Dial soap doesn't make it dry, it helps clean the skin around it. (i use dial and dove.) I hope I helped you :]
