How To Hire A Commercial Photographer For Making Advertisements

What is the meaning of commercial photography?

Commercial photography is all about how that product’s photo presented in its best way. It is all about to bring life to product, glamour to fashion catalog, desired ability & beauty to product through photograph, etc.It is not necessary that commercial photographs are used only to make business, marketing, sales, money only, there are some other prospective also that fall under this category like catalog, fashion, portrait, prospective, menu, books, reports, brochures, press photo, publications, billboards, etc.Commercial photography is not only to make sale, it is also for creating worth to product as well as company.

How are editorial and commercial photography different?

They aren't, in many respects. At least, not as much as you might think.  Images are designated 'editiorial' or 'commercial' primarily due to the way they are used, not because of they way they appear to look.   Editorial work is used by editorial publications--magazines, newspapers, services and sites that publish news.    Commercial work may look very similar in some ways to editorial work, but the use of these images for advertising and marketing brands them as 'commercial' work. There is another, very key difference between the two.  In editorial work, images that look unposed MUST be unposed and unmanipulated.  That is to say, if it looks like something is naturally occurring in an image, the assumption is that the event actually happened that way and it was not set up, changed or orchestrated in any way by the photographer, nor modified in Photoshop.   There are plenty of editorial images--primarily portraits--where it becomes clear that the subject was posed, with heavy coaching from a photographer, with additional lighting, etc.   This is okay, because it's quite obvious that this occurred.  No one is trying to 'fool' the viewer.   What you see is what you get. Commercial  photography has no such stipulations for 'truth'.  Editorial 'style' photography is very popular in advertising and marketing, where the situations look candid but are orchestrated:  also known as 'produced to look loose'.  What you see is not what you get. Thanks for the A2A!

How much money do photographers make?

it depends.

who are you?
annie leibowitz gets more than joe the camera guy

how good is your work?
amateur photos rarely sell

how good are you at advertising and marketing and sales?
photography is a VERY competetive business.

how good are you at running a business?
most photogs are self employed and directly responsible for EVERY aspect of their company.

taking great pics is essential but only 10% of being a successful photographer. go to college with a dual major in art and marketing with minors in whatever would benefit your photos most (fashion, botany, geology, entemology, etc)

Why do people hire photographers?

Anyone—yes, even your crazy uncle Marvin—can point a camera and capture a wonderful image.Every now and again. You hire a professional photographer because you want wonderful results the majority of the time. A professional photographer has the knowledge, experience and equipment necessary to produce consistently excellent results no matter the situation. You hire photographers when you must have excellent results and don’t have the luxury or desire to ‘wing it’.

How do you hire a professional product photographer?

First you should determine if you need someone local to you. If what you need photographed can’t be shipped to a photographer or you just want to make sure you’re there to direct a photographer in what you want and need, you’ll need to research who does what you need in your local area. A simple Google search will probably get you to a few choices. Next take a look at their work to determine if they look like they are capable of shooting what you need and in a style you think fits what you want. Next talk to them. Are they hard to talk to? Are they pleasant? Do they seem helpful and enthusiastic about the project? These might seem like minimal concerns until you need to spend a whole day or more with them. :-)That’s really just the basics. You could get deeper like determining if you really want to pay for someone who is a specialist in your specific type of product or service that needs to be photographed. The best food photographer, or even more specific, liquid specialists, or the best cosmetics photographer isn’t going to be cheap, but it can be worth it if you want to present yourself as a high end product.

CRAIGSLIST PHOTOGRAPHER?

There are a lot of people calling themselves photographers nowadays, it is easy to send a few hundred dollars, buy an entry level DSLR and a couple of lenses and then think you can take photographs. Sadly, a lot of these so called photographers don't understand photograpy and frequently don't understand their equipment any better! The funniest I saw was at a cousins engagement party (I do commercial photograhy, not events, way too may issues with events lol) where the "photographer" was using a Nikon D3000, 18-105mm kit lens and d600 speedlight and shooting in auto mode. Ok,sometimes auto mode makes sense, but not for an entire event, and not with entirely entry level equipment. Sadly, the photographs turned out as I expected them to- more snapshots than anything I would have expected from a professional. No real understanding of light, no real understanding of composition, nothing to make them stand out from anyone else there with a compact camera.

What can you do- he won't get any further work from our family but there are a lot of people looking for bargain photographers who will hire them

How do photographers make money?

DOH!!!

How do you actually think they make money for crying out loud?

They are hired to take photographs or they take and sell their photographs on spec.

As to models. It is only those photographers shooting on spec. (or for their own books) who will hire and pay for models (and amateurs).
The majority of the time it is the ad agency, well actually the end client, who is paying for the talent, props etc etc.
