How do you reset an Acer laptop?

That depends. What do you mean?  I believe you don't know how to say what you mean, but I have no evidence... and the question as asked has already been answered... but I'm sure (as was the other participant) that you did not mean to ask what you actually asked. If you mean "How do I erase everything and make my computer go back to how it was when I first bought it?"  or "How do I perform a factory recovery on my Acer Laptop?" then the answer is also It Depends.See if you can boot into Windows, then you could just run the eRecovery management software that came with your Acer laptop.  It would walk you through the process of doing a factory recovery.  You could also hold the ALT key, and tap F10 when you first turn the laptop on, to start the recovery software. If you are using Windows 8 or 10, you could hold the SHIFT key when you tell the laptop to Restart, and then go into the Troubleshoot menu.  From there you can choose to Refresh or Reset (Windows 8) or just Reset (Windows 10).So you can clearly see that the specific instructions depend on information you have not provided.

Be aware that you will loose your personal data so back it up first

Acer laptop restore side effect?

You need not worry. Sign into Windows with your Windows live account. and allow Windows to do the rest. There may be periods of "black screen" during the process
Make sure you are connected to the internet via WiFi or tethered via a LAN cable between the router & laptop.

Upon first use of a NEW or system reset there are W8 - 8.1 → 150+ & W7 250+ updates to download & configure. If you boot the system and only display a "black screen", locate the HDD light, look for a solid or blinking indicator. This indicate the system is working. Do not disturb this process until the light settles down. Windows will display the login screen once system is configured. This anomaly pertains mainly to W8 & 8.1 installations.

If your PC is in the "black screen" mode, NEVER shut down. It could cause a complete system malfunction.

If you are currently logged on and the W8 or 8.1 computer is sluggish, Windows is configuring the OS, again locate the HDD light & observe its action.

This process uses most of the system’s resources, therefore games, APPS, & programs suffer as the consequence.

Desktop Screen – click on Restart & you will see an option to UPDATE & RESTART or UPDATE & SHUT DOWN.

I was performing an account deletion on my W8 laptop and encountered periods of "black screen".

This could last anywhere for a couple of minutes to an hour.

The “black screen” may occur on other updates throughout the life of the computer. Windows will display the login screen once the system has configured the updates.
