How To Improve Digital And Mobile Engagement

How can you improve user engagement in a mobile application?

This is a broad question, but there are 3 primary pillars to user engagement:Understand User BehaviorSegment your users based on who they are (demographics) and what they do within your apps (behavior)Create a campaign strategy and execute using multiple channels to reach out to your users - push notifications, in-app messages, Email, SMS, Chrome and Safari notifications, even relevant Facebook retargeting when your users are on Facebook. The old adage is that “you cannot improve what you don’t measure” - and that’s very true when it comes to user engagement. In order to set a solid foundation for your efforts it is critical that you:Identify some Key Metrics to track for engagement andSet goals for those Key Metrics and continuosly measure progress towards those goals.Irrespective of what your app is, the following are Key Metrics you should measure:Daily, Weekly and Monthly Active Users (DAU, WAU and MAU)Daily UnInstalls (how many of your users uninstall your app)Day 1, 7 and 28 retention rateAverage Revenue Per User (ARPU) and Average Revenue Per Paying User (ARPPU)Trend of key user actions over time - how many people purchase, write reviews, read articles, share etc. In general what are the top 3 to 5 most important things you want people to do within your app and how those are trending over timeDepending on your app you might want to add a few more metrics to the set. Once you have defined these Key Metrics you can start segmenting your user base and use engagement campaigns to improve these metrics. For example:if your day 28 retention rate is low, you might want to think of a creative way to get your users who’ve not opened your app in the past 28 days somehow to open itif your key user action trend is declining, you want to find ways to lead people who’ve not yet performed that action to do it.A platform like CleverTap will get you up and running quickly. You can track behavior of every single individual who’s using your app, take advantage of the industry’s best segmentation capabilities, measure your drop-off’s and retention, use pre-built user engagement campaigns that are based on best practices and automate timely personalized messages using push, in-app, email and other channels.

What is the best way to plan customer engagement?

Well, as most businesses are becoming online with the sudden boom in the IT industry, keeping customers engaged has become the key strategy to User retention. It is safe to say that as customers stay engaged and spend more time within an app, the more likely he is to become a loyal customer, and hence Customer Engagement has become a primary concern for most online businesses. With ever increasing distance between the Service Provider (Business) and the Service Seeker(Customer), the good old human element of personalization is becoming extinct. To address the issue, in an attempt to re-ignite the human element, most online businesses are integrating In-app Chat/Messaging functionality. How can retail brick and mortar stores optimize their mobile customer engagement in 2017?

By ‘optimize’, I’m going to assume ‘improve’ / ‘increase’ for this answer.Yes, they can do this by increasing the surface area of customer contact. In other words, they need to making themselves available on more channels than their website and a mobile app. It’s no secret that consumers now spend a lot of time on messaging channels like FB, SMS & WhatsApp. Retail brick and mortar stores need to be available to consumers on those channels. How do they do this?By enabling customer service with digital agents and some human agents on those channels.Let’s take Home Depot, for example.I go to Home Depot from time to time for odds and ends. The in-store experience is quite bad. Customer service is often hard to find in the store. I go to the store because the online experience for buying hardware odds and ends; researching, locating, ordering and shipping, is time consuming.Say, my local Home Depot has a customer service digital agent (bot) via SMS or on their FB page. Now, I can simply message their FB bot from my couch like this:me: “Hi, my drip irrigation line springs a leak often. I need help”Home Depot Bot: “Happy to help. A common problem is the emitter pops out of the line. Is that the problem?”me: “Yes”Home Depot Bot: “We have a new emitter XYZ234 that fits lines better. It’s on shelf A in the gardening department.”me: “Great, thanks”Home Depot Bot: “And here’s a video of how to install the drip lines: http://yout.ube/q324”Now, I get my ass of the couch, drive over to the store, walk to shelf A, grab XYZ234, pay and head home. Problem solved. Will I continue to engage with Home Depot? You betcha..That’s how you improve mobile engagement with brick and mortar retail.PS: The Home Depot (company) , if you are reading this, let’s talk :)PPS: Fellow Bot Builders, yes, yes, I know it’s non-trivial to build a bot like this but it’s an illustration.

What are the pros and cons of social media?

Social media can help unite people, we can spread the word of all kinds of things through social media. Big businesses, for example, are being brought into line because people can use social media to communicate concerns and even organize protests.
Businesses can use social media to improve their products and gain publicity.

People can keep in contact with family and friends, whom they normally would lose touch with, that can really work both ways. We can use social media to share thoughts and expressions, we even can show our creativity without signing up with big record companies (huge bonus).

The problems caused are that people engaging in social media too frequently are becoming anti social (ironic, I know). Shout hand text messaging is replacing proper grammar and spelling. People are not developing important interpersonal skills and because there is less face to face or even none at all, people are being less sensitive and online bullying is cause deep problems for some people.

On top of the social disorders, there are health concerns and, perhaps worst of all, security can be a big problem - People can track you via facebook and track you down even when you want or need to keep them away.
Hackers can sometimes steal financial information used on some social media places.

Here are just some of the pros and cons, I hope this answer is good for you and I hope you get many more that can enlighten you.
