How To Know If I Had Strept Throat Or Just Sore Throat

Sore Throat or Strep?

I dont know if i have strep or a sore throat. You see, When I swallow, like my spit, it hurts badly and is VERY dry. But when I swallow water or food, it doesnt hurt as much and I cant really feel it. Only a little bit. What do I have? I don't have a cold or fever or anything. I drink like hot ginger tea everyday now. It's helping for like a few minutes but then an 30 minutes later it is dry and hurts again when I swallow (spit). Also if im not eating anything it hurts too but not really bad. What do I have? Do I need medicine? See the doctor? If yes for medicine then what kind? Also I told my mom and she said its just a sore throat ans that it will be gone in the next few days. Serious answers please!! Thanks!!

Does strep throat start off like a sore throat or do you have puss pockets with it right away?

My throat started bothering me yesterday morning it, i had like this nasty taste and my mouth and tried to get rid of it all day and it just didn't go away even drinking water and orange juice, today it's red and hurts a little when swollowing, no puss pockets, had a temp of 99.5 earlier, is this just a sore throat or will it turn into strep throat later on bc I have no puss pockets?

Do I have strep throat?

I can't go to the doctor, because it's Sunday...but I've been experiencing these symptoms for 3 days:

-Sore throat
-Minor dizziness...I don't know if it's a fever because I don't have a thermometer.
-Chills that cause me to get a bazillion blankets at night to keep warm and then waking up super sweaty and not having chills anymore.
-Nose congestion.
-Minor muscle pains but not all the time....like just at some points in the day.

How do I know if I have strep throat or just a sore throat?

Hey Jazelle. Strep infection causes more severe symptoms than pharyngitis. Fever and white patches on the tonsils may be present. Headache is very common with strep infection of the throat. It will also cause a general, unwell feeling. A simple, rapid strep swab of the throat will determine if there is infection. It is very important to treat strep infections with antibiotics because they can cause other, more serious complications including heart damage (rheumatic fever). In young children with strep infection, they may have very vague complaints that have nothing to do with the throat, like an earache, headache and/or stomachache.

Besides a sore throat, what are the symptoms of strep throat?

Common symptoms of strep throat in children and adults include: Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms. Pain or difficulty with swallowing. Fever over 101°F (38.3°C). Lower fevers may point to a viral infection and not strep. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck. White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils. Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat. Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection. CONTINUE

I discovered a small white painless patch in the back of my throat on my left tonsil. Could this be the first sign of strep throat or is it something serious?
It's completely painless. My throat hasn't gotten red and inflamed, yet, but I am having a slight slight difficulty swallowing.

Whats the difference between a strep throat and a sore throat?

A strep throat is caused by the bacteria streptococcus ( which normally causes tonsillitis) - and it certainly makes your throat sore.
Most sore throats are caused by viral infections.
If you have a strep throat usually you can see spots of white pus on the back of the throat (lovely hey?). You will generally have larger swollen glands (lymph nodes than with a viral infection).
One viral infection which looks and feels most like strep throat is infectious mono (glandular fever/ebstien barr virus) but the pus is more like a thick coating than spots.
Hope you feel better soon. Try some gargling but if you have the white stuff there best get off to see your doctor.

Can strep throat spread to my lungs?

“Strep throat” is mostly a clinical diagnosis made by someone - unless there is a culture done, you can’t say you have Strep throat. Many bacteria can cause pus in the throat. And the immune system can respond and cure the disease However, just because it can does not mean it will.If you have pus, you should see a doctor and be evaluated and treated appropriately. If you just have a sore throat it doesn’t necessarily mean strep. Most times it will be viral. That said, the Streptococcus bacteria can spread to other areas, affecting the heart, lungs (pneumonia), and can cause septicemia and death. If you actually have Strep, it is nothing to mess around with.
