How To Lessen Mile Time

Drop mile time from 6:30 to 5:45?

how long do you think it will take me to drop my mile time from 6:30 to 5:45. my best time is 5:55 but that was a while ago. im just starting running again and my plan is to run 4-6 miles a day doing a walk/jog until i can jog 6 miles without having to walk or stop at all. After i can do that im going to do speed workouts such as 200 X 12, ladders, etc etc. i did track for 3 years in sprinting so i have a good idea about what to do, i was just wondering, how long do you think it will take? its around 6:30 now and id like it to be at 5:45. thanks for your help guys.

Is 6:48 good mile time?

Yes, that is very good.

Is 7:42 an okay mile time?

Just keep on running every night, and consciously pick up the pace a little bit each time.

You only get better when you train your muscles to do it, so doing is the important thing.

A 5 minute mile is pretty fast though. Even American and British elite paratroopers don't do this. (Of course they are running with 100+ pound packs on their backs.)

As a matter of fact, you could try doing that yourself. Start wearing a backpack with weights in it. Make sure it fits you snugly and that you USE the chest straps!! If you can learn to run quickly with weights, then you will run that much more easily and longer (and sometimes even faster) without them.

DO NOT FORGET the proper warm-up and cool-down exercises before and after your runs! You want to be able to slowly bring you muscles up to their best performance level. You need to take care of them along the way. Also make sure to replace your electrolytes afterwards. You don't want your muscles to be deprived of food and oxygen.

How can I decrease my mile time?

You just have to run. Doing one mile as fast as you can once a week isn't going to cut it. Try running for twenty minutes three times a week to start. If you absolutely don't have any time - not even one hour a week - you can get by on a little less if you do some sprinting such as Tabata sprints. You'll see improvement with a smaller time commitment that way, but it's a much more difficult workout. So just go run regularly and enjoy it. Stop and walk when you have to. Gradually, you'll be able to make the walk breaks shorter and less frequent, and you'll be able to go for longer than 20 minutes. You'll be able to run a 7:30 mile by spring if you keep at it. However, unless you're especially gifted, you probably will need to exercise in order to do it.

Keep the intensity high and and complete the workouts sincerely keeping alternate days for resting with a jog of a mile or 2.I remember doing my first mile in 8:20 and now I can do it in 5:02, it all just takes some dedication and hard work. All the best!

How do I reduce my mile time? My lungs start burning every time I run

Try doing intervals, sprinting and then recovering with a jog. Try running hills and stairs. Only run every other day and not every day. Do strength training on your alternate days. Take at least one day of complete rest per week. Realize that building your running speed will take time and does not happen quickly.

How can I take 10 seconds off my mile time very soon?

Hill repeats are great for this, as they decrease your recovery time. Once or twice per week is sufficient.Heavy squats, once you work up to them, are also great for just getting the quad strength you need in order to run faster.Depending on what the reasons are for your current mile time, one or the other might work better. If you slow down by the end of a mile because you're out of juice, then hill repeats will work better. If you are giving it everything and can't break past a plateau, squats will help more.

Running double or triple the distance required generally help in building endurance, but what you need more specifically is speed. Suggest you run at moderate pace for 2 miles objectively to lose weight. Take 5... Then start speed training, run a quarter mile within 2 mintues or lesser; walk for 30 secs and repeat this process until you hit a total of 1 mile in running. Walking distance not included.
You should be able pick lots of speed after 2 weeks.
*Note: Do not engage in too much resistance training and remember to keep a steady constant pace during your actual 1.5 mile test.
