How do you make Bulletproof Coffee? How much MCT is in it?

In the official recipe, as created by Dave Asprey, one uses the following:10 oz freshly brewed coffee (BP coffee preferred)2 Tbsp Brain Octane Oil (a MCT oil of purely C8; BP Nutrition product)2 Tbsp Grass-fed, organic, pasture raised butter (like Kerry Gold or Organic Valley)Blend and enjoy Some of my favorite modifications are by adding:1 Tbsp Cacao Butter (raw, organic)1 Tsp Ceylon cinnamon1 Tbsp collagen power20 drops Reishi  Mushroom extract1 Tbsp cocoa powder 1 Tsp vanilla powder  If you're new to BP Coffee, go slow on the fats, starting with a teaspoon of each. Some people don't want, or don't like, so much fat in their coffee and stick with 1 Tsp of butter and Brain Octane.

What does Bulletproof Coffee taste like?

In the original recipe you're using Brain Octaine oil (c8 MCT), butter, and brewed coffee. This tastes like a nuttier, rich, heavier, latte. Nuttier (in notes) based on the unsalted butter, heavier (in the mouth) due to the oil. Most find the flavor rich and often favor it once they've had it. Those same people will tweak the recipe to fit their needs… adding more or less MCT or butter, adding cacao butter (my favorite), adding stevia, adding cinnamon, etc.Consider the base recipe a fattier latte with a richer, creamier, flavor.

Does Starbucks have plans to make Bulletproof(R) coffee?

Probably not. For one thing, as the edits I put into the question indicate, Bulletproof coffee is a registered trademark, and they'd have to pay Asprey licensing fees. For another, Bulletproof coffee is a terrible idea and result, taking a couple of good things, coffee and butter, and putting them together with oil to make a horrible thing, foul tasting and with extremely poor nutritious results.3 Reasons Why Bulletproof Coffee is a Bad IdeaThe answer would be the same if someone asked if Starbucks would be providing Soylent, which at least has the advantage of being nutritious.

What is the easiest way of making bulletproof coffee on the road?

It depends on the type of travel you’re referring to.If by plane, you’ll have to find solutions that will go through security without much disruption. What I use:Dehydrated organic coffee, or freeze-dried (buy online)Powdered MCT oil (buy online)Individual packets of butter or ghee (buy online or make yourself)Travel mugGet some hot water, add ingredients to the travel mug THEN add the hot water. Shake and enjoy.Bulletproof™ also sells a per-made product called InstaMix. I’m not fond of it, but it’s super easy to use. It replaces the powered MCT and butter/ghee. You’ll see need coffee, water, and the travel mug.Other ideas:Bring powdered MCT and buy butter once you get to your destinationBring frother and use it as a make-shift blender. Keep the butter/ghee our otherwise it wont workBuy pre-made butter coffee drinks (I don't like these since they usually add some sort of sweetener like stevia or xylitol.)For longer trips order stuff online and have it shipped to where you’re stayingMake tea instead of coffee (use teabags, and the items above); Yerba Mate is an excellent tea substitute for coffeeI like adding cinnamon and numeric when I travelHappy and safe travels!

Is it okay to drink Bulletproof coffee on a low carb diet?

When you’re on a keto diet, and your carb intake is low, you do need an alternative source of energy to keep you going active and provide your brain with sufficient nutrition. When the carbohydrates go down, you feel drained off of energy and your mind slows down. Healthy fats provide you the right energy but not the nutrition.A bulletproof coffee gives you a solid boost for the day. White organic butter also contains vitamin D apart from healthy fat, Coconut oil again is a great source for healthiest possible fat, caffeine in coffee stimulates your brain. A lot of people use bulletproof coffee as a pre workout an hour or so before their workout. Also, while on keto, you tend to lack essential vitamins and minerals. Taking Multi vitamins and B complex capsules/tablets as supplements become important along with husk for fiber and roughage, which otherwise whole grains provide you with.I’m not a keto fan personally; However I do take bulletproof coffee in the morning for my noon workout.

Have you tried bulletproof coffee? How did it make you feel versus regular coffee?

YES I sure have tried bulletproof coffee! But first let me be clear - I used MY favorite coffee beans (beanhoppers.com) to brew the coffee. I did not purchase the coffee beans from bulletproof. So I can’t vouch for their coffee beans.I used the real deal… the bulletproof brand (bulletproof.com). They are the company who invented this. I did not simply pour any old coconut oil into my coffee. I got the XCT oil. I also purchased the grass fed Kerrygold unsalted butter from a local grocer.I started by following their instructions about putting only a little oil in at at time (could cause stomach upset if you just put in a full dose right away).I must tell you that the first day I was honestly amazed. I had so much energy and brain clarity it was so great! I could not believe it. My husband experienced the same thing. I don’t work for them, really :-) Regular coffee has never given me this sort of real energy. If I have too much coffee I’m jittery, but when adding the bullet proof ingredients, I had more energy, but NOT jittery at all. It was also improved my overall mood.It did not help my hunger until I started using more of the oil, then it just curbed my appetite. But I’m hungry every two hours. We drank our coffee this way off and on for a while. We decided that we didn’t want to “get used” to the feeling it gave us because we wanted to use it when we really needed the extra mental focus and clarity. If you use something every day it eventually doesn’t have the same impact on you.Another reason I can’t use it everyday is because, while it is creamy and frothy and good… I am a real purist when it comes to coffee and it pains me to put anything in it. Even if what I put in it actually tastes good! For me it’s “ruining” my coffee, because I love the taste so much. The bulletproof tasted nice though. I just prefer the taste of plain black coffee. I also tried their 100% cocoa powder and a little honey in the cup a few times, and that was really delicious. But again, I can’t help myself, I always go back to plain black coffee. So my recommendation is definitely try it! It’s totally worth it and even though it can be expensive, you can make it stretch because I wouldn’t say you need it every day.Hope that helps!Oh and if you want really great coffee to try it with, check out Bean Hoppers shameless plug… :-)Cheers!

Can I just make "bulletproof" coffee with off-the-shelf ingredients?

absolutely. just remember to buy quality ingredients, ie: grassfed butter and not normal (grainfed) butter.there are tons of great brands that manufacture Pharmaceutical grade MCT Oil that is the same or better quality.Just make sure to buy fresh roasted, high quality coffee beans. This is probably the most important part. Also, butter coffee tastes best with a light roasted coffee that has good body and bold flavor. I prefer columbian light roasted coffee with it.Also, you can now buy products like this one that make the whole Butter Coffee process a lot quicker and less messy. This product has high quality ingredients (grassfed organic ghee, organic coconut oil, and mct oil) all in one bottle. It makes a quick and easy keto coffee
