How To Make Relaxed Hair Back To The Normal Wavy Hair

Can you put gel in relaxed hair?

My hair is relaxed and I have used gel. Just make sure it has some hydrating agent/s. Relaxed hair, as you know, needs lots of moisture, so try to find a product without ammonium--it can cause brittle hair and that is damaging.

Can I perm my hair after having it relaxed?

While on holiday, and on a whim I decided to get my hair 'relaxed'. I have wavy hair/big curls and tend to straighten it daily with a hair straightener. I told the hairdresser I dont want stick straight hair, so she recommended a relaxer so that my hair would continue to have a slight wave. Anyway- long story short- my hair is now stick straight. It has been 5 weeks since the relaxing has been done and the hairdresser told me within a few shampoo washes my hair would regain some wave. nope, not at all.

I will never ever in my life again complain about my wavy hair. I actually had body and bounce and hate how straight and dull and lifeless my hair has become.

I want to get my hair permed to get a wavy or curly look but I am afraid that this has been a chemical nightmare for my hair and they might all fall off. Is it safe to get a perm now that I have waited 5 weeks or should I wait longer? If so, for how long should I wait? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Damn, its going to suck when my hair starts to grow and my roots are wavy but the rest of my hair is stick straight. :(

Wave Nouveau and Relaxed Hair?

Wave nouveau is a chemical much like a relaxer. Yes, you can add color, my sister has a jeri curl and she dyes it. You'll have to let your hair grow out, unless you want to cut it very short - to the new growth. Whenever your switching chemical processes you have to let your hair grow out or get it cut to the new growth and apply the new chemical to the virgin hair. If you put one harsh chemical on top of another then your hair will fall out. You can also get advice from your hairdresser.

It's healthier to go back to your own naturally curly hair - without the chemicals.

Relaxers that make you hair curly?

Yes, this relaxer may not have been as strong as other ones or you left it in for less time. Either way the result was a "texturizer." It is still a chemical process and contains all the same harsh ingredients that relaxers do but it does not take all of the coil out of hair.

Texturizing=About 25% relaxed where hair is left with ringlets.

It sounds like you "texlaxed"= Basically where hair is about 75% relaxed and almost bone straight but some wave is left in.

So you can use a regular relaxer and leave it in for less time or buy a texturizer. Just be aware it is the same process as a relaxer and the result is very inpredictable. The curls may be an ugly combination between straight and kinky and not true "curls" OR you may end up relaxing hair completely straight.

And as you may guess I am anti-relaxer but they can be fine as long as you are taking the extra precaution of deep conditioning and doing protein treatments. Just my advice from me to you.

How to make relaxed hair naturally curly and how to take care of it?

My daughter has "smooth curls". Wash your hair with a very good herbal shampoo such as Herbal Essences that adds volume and use the "Honey I'm Strong" almond and Honey conditioner. Comb the conditioner through and let it sit for 2 minutes, then rinse out. After towelling dry, comb your hair and then run your fingers through it to separate the curling locks. Now, we use 1-1/2 inch wide 5 inch long strips of stronger magazine paper to roll up the locks of hair tight and tie up the paper ends, and let the hair dry over night in the "curl papers". In the morning we unroll the "curl Papers" and her hair is curled. We then use a loose comb -- one with long tines and the tines are wider apart than regular de-tangling combs, we use the wider comb to very gently comb each lock and then wrap the curl around our finger and them gently loosen it for even curls. Let me see if I can find a youtube video on curl papers....Ooh --- this girl is very good and very easy to follow her instructions! (link is safe!)

What is the difference between straight and relaxed hair?

Relaxed hair is straight hair - it's not naturally straight, but not flat ironed either.

A relaxer is a cream that's put in your hair to make it straight, and it's permanent, which means you have to cut it out of your hair if you don't want it anymore, or touch-up your roots if you want to keep up the look (like permanent hair dye).

Flat ironed hair reverts once water or humidity hits it, so that's the difference between thermal straightening and chemical straightening.

Different races use relaxers, but the term "relaxer" seems to be more associated with what blacks use; black's have super curly natural hair, so most chemically straighten with relaxers, but other races use chemical relaxers, too, including whites - probably not the same brands. Also, whites use different terms to refer to relaxers, like reverse curly perm (same thing, with a different name). Also, some whites on Y!A use the same relaxers blacks use without any problems.

They're called relaxers because they relax the curl. If you have curly hair and you do something to make it straight or less curly then you're *relaxing* the curl.
