What is the best way to keep Ikea bed slats from falling through?

Most common problem with the slats is that they are not "locked in". There is a small white plastic nub that goes  near the top and bottom of the bed on the rails and, if a full. queen or king bed, the midbeam. Sometimes it gets loose and falls out and sometimes people don't install it because they don't intend to use the slats and are going to use a box spring or other foundation. The directions are a little confusing at the end where this part is installed. So check to see if these small nubs are there. If they are missing that is the problem. Contact customer service to get the missing parts. If the nubs are there that first and last slat lock into the bed there is some other issue, Check to make sure the midbeam is installed properly, There should be these thin rods that extend like an "X" coming off of it.Also if you get aggravated enough ditch the slats and get a foundation mattress like a box spring or the other things that IKEA sells

How can I re-drill a misaligned hole in hardened steel?

The workpiece is presumably not too hard if you can drill it with a cobalt drill.Heavily clamp a piece of steel plate scrap over the existing hole so that the two will not move with respect to each other. It could do with the plate being nice and thick. Centre-punch the hole in the correct place in the plate. Drill through the plate and then keep going through the workpiece. Go slowly with the drill running at a speed that will not burn the end off it. Use lubricant. You could also then place a second piece of plate on the other side of the workpiece with an existing hole in it. You then try to force the drill to follow your desired line. It is a bit of a fudge, but it has been known to work in some circumstances. You could additionally fill the existing hole with a steel dowel or tapered pin hammered into the hole. The pin could be cut flush with the surface of the workpiece. Then drill a pilot hole (say 1.5mm) down through the pin in the correct trajectory. If you had a milling machine, you could use that. Mills tend to be a lot stiffer than a drill. You could then use a carbide cutter that would allow you to simply mill the hole into the correct location. (But I know you don’t have a mill.)

How do you calculate the cross section area of cylinder?

The Cross section of an object is the shape you get when you cut straight through an object. It can be a rectangle, a circle even an oval, depending on how it has been cut.A circleThus the cross section of the above cylinder is a circle. Hence the cross sectional area is the area of a circle.Area of a circle = π x R2R= radiusA RectangleThus the cross section of the above cylinder is a rectangle, hence calculate the area of a rectangle.Area of a rectangle= length*widthAn OvalThus the cross section of the above cylinder is an oval, hence calculate the area of the oval.Area of an oval= π*short radius*long radiusUsing the figure below as an example, the short radius is a the long radius is bthus the area is = π*a*bSo what will guide you is how it has been cut. Good Day.

What are the different kinds of fasteners?

Nuts - Used with a bolt and washer to create a joint. It is considered a temporary joint because it can be easily removed.Bolts - Held on by a nut, typically with a shoulder, bolts have a much higher strength than screws and are used when removing the connection is likely.Washers - Used typically on the nut side of a nut and bolt assembly to provide the nut with a flat and smooth surface to fasten against. They can also protect the material surface.Screws - Used to hold materials together and considered permanent, screws hold themselves into the materials they are installed in without a nut.Rivets - Considered a permanent install, rivets hold materials together by expanding on one side of the hole resulting in a firm hold.Anchors - Typically permanent. Most are placed in a hole and somehow expanded to fill the hole and prevent pull-throughRetaining Rings - A ring the is either expanded or compressed and fit into a recess on a shaft. They are commonly used on shocks to hold springs under pressure.Dowel Pins - A cylindrical metal pin used in machinery to keep pieces in place.Security Screws - Serve the Same functionality as screws but with unusual head styles that may add extra security to your assemblyNote: There are many kinds of each fastener that can serve different purposes. For example sheet metal screws have sharp cutting threads that will easily cut through soft metals where as a wood screw is used primarily in wood to wood applications.

Lift and Turn tub stopper with no set screw?

I have a lift and turn tub stopper. According to Lowe's you need to loosen the set screw to get these out. I have looked at mine and there is no set screw. I am pretty sure that it is not a roller ball or pop-up drain, but again, no set screw. The dang thing will not come out!! Any ideas for me? Thanks.
