If you have a Costco card, Costco sells boxes of pre-made, frozen burger patties like the restaurants use. This may be an easier way of getting the burgers for your BBQ than having to deal with forming 60 identical patties on your own.

Don't worry about frozen patties. You can quickly thaw them by placing them in a single layer on a metal cookie sheet and place another metal cookie sheet on top. The burgers will be perfectly thawed in about 20 minutes on your counter, or in about 40 minutes in the fridge.

How much would it cost to feed 400 people burgers?

Say you pay $6 for a 60 ounce bottle of ketchup, and you put one ounce of ketchup per burger then the ketchup cost per burger would be $.10. So the cost of a burger bun and ketchup would be $.80 times 400 burgers would be about $320, given the cost of ingredients I used.

Of course, if you used more or less expensive ingredients, or increased or decreased the portion sizes, or added more condiments then the cost per burger would differ from my estimate.

You should also consider the cost of napkins and paper plates using the same cost per person analysis as above.
