How To Not Do A Compulsion To A Ocd Thought

Are homosexual thoughts a symptom of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)?

Are those homosexual thoughts draw out usual narratives like you're actually having sex with someone or others who have the same gender as yours? And they happen almost always, like when you were still a teenager having sex with random persons or those you know? If so, they're your fantasies. They're signs you're not engaging much in sex. You have the longing to have sex but you can't due to some external reasons. And hence you repress yourself. But OCD is totally different. Homosexuality does not fall into the spectrum. You are not obsessed nor compulsed behavior-wise just because you're a homosexual. And besides, homosexuality is not a disease. OCD is a disease. Can you imagine having OCD like you keep on counting power posts every time because you're fascinated most strangely by power posts? And you can't stop yourself (there is THAT very strong urge you just can't stop)? You go to new places just to count power posts? And that's just an example of a kind of OCD, which is generally have unresolved, unrecognized, underlying causes that have to be targeted through talk therapy, which is expensive. And so, OCD sufferers resort to getting prescription drugs from psychiatrists to stave off their compulsion.Such symptoms don't come into the picture if you're a homosexual. You just happened to be homosexual and you suffer from OCD. And so, seek professional help soon.

Can exposure become a compulsion in OCD, like checking your reaction?

Using the word exposure in this context is hard for me to process. After reading the question comments, I would describe how OCD works as follows:It is not uncommon for someone who suffers from OCD to be obsessed to an irrational degree that some things are “sinful.” If that person reads something that triggers this kind of obsessive it would also be common to want to do some irrational compulsion to make the thought go away. Re-reading the “sinful” passage doesn't really qualify as a compulsion. A compulsion is something that we do to get rid of the the obsessive thought. It usually is irrational and annoying. We wouldn't say that being exposed to a “sinful” passage caused the obsession. That is not how OCD works. We also would not become obsessed with checking if we still are obsessed with something. This question sounds more like someone has been repressed by religion and needs to work that out.

Do compulsive thoughts come true?

No….! a big NO! If you are a spiritual person who had relinquished all wants in life then your thoughts might come true, but not always there are moments of truth and not but when you are leading a normal life and this happens chances of this happening are very remote…All the best… And Best of Luck..!

What on earth is obsessive compulsive disorder?

Im sorry to hear about your classmate.

I myself am a sufferer of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Its a form of an anxiety disorder and convinces the sufferer that is some rituals are not carried out a negative problem will occur not just necessarily to a family member or loved one.

It can also cause in intrusive thoughts.
where the sufferer can be talking to someone and suddenly an image of the being killed or stabbed will occur in their head, they cant control this, its not that they want to do it it is just a problem the have to deal with themselves.

Hope this helped x

How do you resist the urge for ocd? or intrusive thoughts?

Usually cognitive behavioral therapy and/or systematic desensitization is used for OCD, which is what you are describing. (google for some extra reading.) Basically, you learn to resist the urge AND reduce the anxiety you feel when you resist at the same time. However, psychotropic medications (medications for depression, ocd, anxiety, etc.) are a big part of dealing with OCD for most people, and a lot of times it helps to start on the meds then ease off of them as you progress through therapy. Talk to your family doctor and she/he can make you a referral. And don't feel like "only crazy people take meds." There are a lot more people that you know that take them and just don't tell anyone. It's really not a big deal.

Good luck!

I resisted an OCD thought and feel scared. Doing ERP therapy?

Ok, so I am not crazy, I have OCD. I got this obsessive thought one afternoon that told me: "If you see (person's name) and you are wearing this necklace (A necklace I wear a lot) you will have her looks and personality and will lose yourself." I am doing "Exposure and Response Prevention" Therapy and resisted this thought but now feel scared!!! I know my OCD must be easier than most, because with germ fears you actually have a chance of getting sick. But with mine it is impossible to be another person!! We are all just ourselves, but I feel like since I did not do what the OCD thought needed me to do (compulsion of not wearing the necklace) that I will be punished and will look and act like her. Please give me logic and tell me how you (as a person not suffering from OCD) would handle this.
BTW, I do not have schizophrenia or BPD. Therapist has already said no. Therapist said I feel worried about losing myself because of my low self esteem.
