How To Prevent Oily Roots

How do I fix hair that's oily at the roots and dry and frizzy at the ends?

I have somewhat of the same problems.

First, make sure you never condition your scalp, just condition the ends (starting at like your neck down). You don't need to use a really heavy conditioner.

I've noticed with my hair (and I have no idea as to why) that when I let it air dry, it seems to look more oily. I know that blow drying can damage your hair, but they have heat guard products you can use so that it doesn't. Make sure you don't use this on your scalp though, stay away from any kind of product on your scalp. If you want your hair to curl, you can buy something called a diffuser. It's a simple attachment for your hair dryer made to uphold curls. When you use the diffuser, use the "cool" function on your dryer and a low setting. The cool setting will also help to not dry out your hair.

I dye my hair about once a month and the ends of my hair get really brittle. Try using a product called Queen Helene's hot oil treatment. You only need to use it once a week at most and again, avoid the scalp with this stuff.

In regard to having to wash your hair every day, I have the same problem. And I HATE it, mostly because I'm too lazy to go through the whole blow drying, straightening and styling routine everyday lol. I recently starting using dry shampoo. Big Sexy Hair, and Bumble and Bumble are good brands to look for. You spray this on your roots, wait 2 mins, and brush it out. Astonishingly enough, your hair looks like you just washed it. It has stuff in it that soaks up the grease and saves you so much time! You might want to give it a try. It's my new favorite thing!

Hope this helps!!

How to prevent greasy hair for school?

I have a few suggestions for you:

1) Don't use conditioner on your roots, when shampooing.

2) Dampen your roots in the morning, then blow dry them. It should remove and/or reduce the greasy appearance without spending the same amount of time washing your hair.

3) You can do half up hairstyles with hair clips and headbands, which can help hide the greasy roots while still letting you wear your hair long. LC from the Hills wears some good half do styles, flirty and cute.

4) If none of these help, you can buy dry shampoo to reduce the greasiness.

If no ones advice helps you, I think you need to come to terms with this problem or wake up earlier to wash it.

Should I apply oil even if my hair gets oily often?

Absolutely !every hair oil is appropriate for oily scalp, as you may have guessed, the majority of hair oils are going to make your scalp extremely oily and greasy looking, that is why you should not use any random oil that you do not know a lot about and especially hair oils that have not been tested, reviewed and approved by different users. When you have oily hair, applying oil in your hair won’t even cross your mind but some of the natural oils can help in reducing oil production in your scalp. But oil your hair only once a week or twice a month during summers. You need oil which is not only light on hair will have many properties that are similar to the natural oil that our oil glands produce. So applying jojoba oil to your scalp reduces the production of oil from the oil glands. One such oil is jojoba oil so use it to massage hair lightly and make it more manageble and lessprone to extreme oiliness. You need to select a shampoo that is mild with low pH or that is made specifically for oily hair. Clarifying shampoos are also known to be suitable for the job. You can even use homemade shampoo to wasg hair that will balance ph of hair and make it healthy and manageble.Even with an oily scalp, you may find that hair ends have become dry. In this case, applying conditioner becomes important. But remember to use it only to the ends. If your hair isn’t dry then avoid using conditioner altogether.Stress plays an important role in regulating your hormonal balance. If you are stressed, you cause hormonal imbalance that may cause over secretion of oil by oil glands and make scalp more oily . By dealing with stress in a better way, you can avoid oily skin, hair and scalp.Apple cider vinegar -It’s a natural remedy for oily scalp. Use it as an acidic rinse. Oily roots, dry ends?

You should try working from your scalp. Without a healthy scalp, your hair can never be healthy.

Try scalp shampoo instead of haircare shampoo. Like Phyto's shampoo for oily scalp and Phyto's intelligent shampoo. Works for me. Alternate the use both shampoos. ie use oily scalp shampoo for a month, then switch to intelligent shampoo the next.

Next, when you apply conditioner, do apply from mid length of your hair onwards. Do not apply the conditioner to your roots or massage in the conditioner. Cos conditioners are moisturising, may cause your well cleansed scalp to become oily again.

Lastly, use a leave-in treatment to protect your hair. Same rule, don't apply the treatment to your roots. From mid length towards the hair end. For me, I use olive oil. Cheap and good. But keep in mind, 3 to 4 drops is more than enough. Too much oil will cause your hair to become greasy.

I have too oily scalp but my hair are too dry? What should i do to balance it?

Put shampoo directly on the scalp and massage in, focusing mostly on the scalp area, with the finger tips.Conditioner goes ONLY on the ends, and massage the conditioner up the length of the hair, avoiding direct contact with the scalp. Try to keep the conditioner in the hair for at least 60 seconds, and only spend up to 60 seconds rinsing it out.Air dry instead of blow dry if possible, as blow drying can be drying to your hair. Also, I don't know if this does anything in particular, but I was told when I went overseas, that when towel drying to switch up the methods I was using...(won't really do much for your oily/dry problem though)Instead of clasping the towel around the hair and wiggling back and forth to dry, sandwich the hair inside the towel, then clap, pat, or press (I clap...figure it gets the most pressure on my hair, but I have fairly strong hair to begin with) the towel on both sides to kind of push the water out into the towel. I was told that when your hair is wet, it's weaker and a bit easier to break (this part is true), but the wringing of the towel, and the rubbing back and forth motion can cause enough friction in the hair to promote more breakage. Patting the towel on both sides has less movement and rubbing across the hair shafts.

Why is my hair getting oily when i straighten my hair?

of course it damages your hair to some extent since you practically fry your hair to be straight. so maybe you would want to look for a better and more expensive irons.
you probably have oily texture of hair. so when you hair is wavy it is puffy, but when you straighten it - it gets smooth and loses its volume.
ALSO, when you like the way your hair is styled you tend to touch your hair more, style it the way you want, just simply touch the smoothness and so on. I do that a lot so my hair gets dirty pretty fast too.

if you do it on daily basis it can't be good for your hair, so maybe you should consider doing a straight perm, since you only do it once for at least half a year. this way you save time and don't let your hair get even more damaged.

(and oiliness has nothing to do with hair - it is the skin of your head, so you can tell your mom to sleep peacefully about it. you are not making your hair oily because of the device)

I wash my hair and by the next day my hair is oily and then it becomes itchy and I have bad dandruff. What should I do?

I have had some personal experience with this problem and have had some success with solutions. There are several things that you can try out. Firstly, you might try using a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfate-free shampoos don't typically have the bubbly, lather that other shampoos have, but I noticed an amazing difference with dandruff after switching to a sulfate-free product. Secondly, taking the time to "train" your hair can be extremely beneficial. By "training" I mean take a period of time where you don't mind living with greasy hair. After a few days, wash your hair, then continue the process. Sometimes your scalp just needs a break from all the products. During those greasy days, try out some up-dos! Also, if you are constantly playing with or touching your hair, make a conscious effort to limit yourself. Touching your hair can make it appear greasy more quickly. After "training" my hair over a period of a month, I found that I can go 3-4 days without shampooing. Thirdly, if the dandruff continues to be a major problem that over the counter dandruff shampoos aren't adequately treating, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. Lastly, you may want to try some more delicate shampoos. Many of my friends swear by using Apple cider vinegar as a hair cleanser. Personally, the smell is too much for me! But if you're willing to deal with the temporary smell and a total lack of lather, then it may be worth a try. It's natural and won't contain chemicals that typically strip the hair or are harsh on the scalp. My final piece of advice would be to give each suggestion time to work! Allow your scalp to adjust to the changes before you move in to the next one. I hope that helps!
