How To Put A Quilt On A Backpack

What's the difference between a knapsack and a backpack?

Here's googles individual definitions for them:So what I took from this was that; 1, they're synonyms and can be used as such if that is your preference; 2, knapsack has more depth in the meaning and history; 3, knapsack seems to have a more hardy kind of feeling versus backpack having a more broad application to things. Now in my personal opinion, this is how I view them.Backpack:Backpacks have more of a square form, and have have more pockets and other helpful outward features. They have two straps and have practical, but still pleasing enough aesthetic value (for advertisements sake), usage.Knapsacks:Knapsacks are more natural colored and have an almost grungy feeling. They're more triangle shaped, and often cinched or closed another uncommon way. They have less pockets, the majority is just one big section. One strap bags typically feel more like knapsacks than backpacks. When I read books, authors tend to use 'knapsack' in more primitive or sometimes futuristic settings. 'Backpack' is used for a more modern feel, but sometimes in futuristic, depending on the situation. This is all, of course, up for individual interpretation. Such was just mine.Regards

What kind of things do you put into your backpack when you intend to travel abroad?

Following the liquid rule.Eyebrow pencil, lipbalm, lipstick, Nivea Creme. I’m a girl after all.Balinese Sarong. Seriously, though, this has been going everywhere with me. It can work as a blanket or as a head scarf or a bed sheet.Sanitary pads (1 or 2)Instant noodle + soup. I’m a cheap traveler. LOL.Heat plasters for back and muscle pain.Sunglasses1 long pair of jeans, 2 or 3 shorts, 1 jacket, 4 or 5 T-shirts, 1 ‘fancier’ shirt, undergarments, and a small towel, 2 pairs of socksThat’s pretty much it.

Coach, Vera Bradley, or Louis Vuitton?

depends on your age....If your still in high school get vera bradley. Theres no need for high school to be carrying around a coach handbag. Kids get jealous and bad things happen like ruining it or stealing it. Vera bradley is alot more affordable and cute. LV & coach are cute on a different level like its a grown up cute.

Is it possible to put a sleeping bag inside of a sleeping bag to make it warmer?

I can report with confidence that it works wonderfully. I have been a year round backpacker and mountain climber for almost 40 years and I have used the two bag system almost that whole time. I started out using a heavy winter bag but quickly adopted the two bag system and found it worked MUCH better:

You need to have two different sized bags, a narrower mummy for the inner bag and an oversized mummy style for the "overbag". I have a 15 degree F rated ultra light down mummy bag that is perfect for Spring and Fall and for cooler Summer nights camping in the mountains. I also have a 30 degree rated oversized synthetic fiber bag that is comfortable on its own for Summer trips. In winter I carry both -- the each pack down about the size of a large loaf of bread so it is easier to carry the two smaller bags inside my backpack than one huge winter bag. I slide the down mummy inside the larger synthetic bag and have stayed warm to 20 below zero in the two of them. If I get too warm at night I just wriggle out of the overbag and sleep on top of it with just the down mummy. Also, you can tuck some of your clothing between the two bags while you are sleeping to keep it warm and dry and to add extra insulationAnother advantage is that the synthetic bag protects the inner down bag from moisture such as condensation on the walls of the tent. And I carry the synthetic bag in my summit pack for climbs and day hikes so I always have it with me for an emergency bivouac or if we have to rescue an injured person.

There are manufacturers who sell two bag systems, but you can put one together yourself from any two bags that fit together. Just make sure that the outer bag is at least 6 to 8 inches wider all the way down than the mummy bag. It is the thickness of the insulation that traps heat and keeps you warm -- if the outer bag is too small it will not allow the insulation of the inner bag to expand and you will not be as warm. That may be what confused your friends who claimed "it won't work". The two bag system works wonderfully.

How can I best pack a U.S. Navy sea bag?

Basically, ‘however it fits’. But I can give you some tips!Boots go on the bottom, tennis shoes on the top if you aren’t wearing either on the plane. This gives your other stuff a good sturdy cushion.Make sure to put the heel of the boot towards your back and the sole to the bottom- this provides support. Stuff rolled socks or breakable things into your boots with a sock roll in the top. On the toes put something heavy like your outer weather coat (black). On top of your boots put your peacoat as it’s nice and heavy. Then you mostly just want to pack as straight up as you can- folded NWU’s, then outerwear. Don’t forget your dopp kit until the very top- it’s safer in the middle with anything liguid in it’s own ziplock inside of the dopp kitt. After you have a full stack of outer uniform items, push your towels (folded) all the way on down the back side where it will rest against your back. These provide important padding!PT gear, undershirts, and socks get stuffed in wherever they fit at this point- just not between the clothes and towels or between the towels and your back. That’ll hurt! Finally, dress uniforms go on top- blues then whites, neckerchief in between. This is about the only way to keep it mostly nice. Finish up with your PT shoes on top, soles UP, and pack and other edges up there with t-shirts or socks or skivvies. Pick up by the top and slam against the deck to help things compress so you can close the top.Don’t fold underthings, they’re better used as general padding.Your sleeping bag and pillow will be a pain in the arse no matter what you do. I say stuff it last thing, and bring the smallest pillow you can stand. I personally bring an ultralight down ‘backpacking quilt’ on ships these days- it packs to about the size of a nalgene bottle. But they’re expensive!I’ve gone on about 40 flights to TDYs and ships, and this is the method I always use. You can get an full seabag of uniforms this way, or most of your uniforms + a couple pair of civvies.

Camping Gear: What is the best sleeping bag for fast packing? Looking for compression

As Chris Joosse points out down is the way forward. But if you want to go light, but stay warm take a point out of Mike Clellands Ultralight camping tips bookMats keep insulation incredibly well. The Thermarest Neo Air X Lite is the lightest for the warmth. Also, you can fold it flat which is helpful for packing. The women's version ways less, is warmer, though a little warmer. The Rab Neutrino Endurance 400 is a -4 bag that weighs 890, packs down to 18cm by 23 in it's standard waterproof stuff sack and has a Pertex Endurance coating (more on that in a sec) so it's  bivy bag, sleeping bag two in one, though you may want something to cover the face opening. Personally for summer use in the Rockies I think this is too warm. I do just fine with a 0 degree bag I have from Mammut. The Rab Neutrino Endurance 200 comes in at 690gm and packs even smaller. If you need it warmer just wear a down jacket to bed. Ultralight is all about making every piece useful for multiple things. If you want use another sleeping bag, but need weather protection I highly recommend the Survival Zone Lite Bivi. At 237g it's the lightest bivy bag on the market. Last year I stuffed my 2.5 inch pad, sleeping bag, and gear inside of it. Cosy right? Well 5 hours later high winds and torrential rain battered my little alpine nest. I yanked the oversized hood over just in time. It lasted 6 hours till morning, and I slept surprisingly well. The "non waterproof" Pertec Endurance was still dry on the inside, and cosy as could be. Super happy with this tiny little feller.

What can I do w/ my sons bowling patches?

Sew onto a quilt
Sew onto his backpack
Pin onto a plain solid colored shirt and display on the wall
Definitely save them for him because old stuff like that will be cool when he is in high school!
