How To Reset My Computer To Factory Settings

How do you reset a Toshiba computer to factory settings?

For Toshiba laptops, there’s two ways you can perform a factory reset.Using Toshiba’s built-in recovery softwareToshiba’s recovery software will bring your laptop back to the way it was when you first bought the computer. This includes all of the Toshiba bloatware that was installed onto it as well. You would have to backup all of your important files first as Toshiba’s recovery software wipes out your drive completely. This procedure usually takes about one to two hours to complete.Using Windows 8/10’s reset featureIf you’re using Windows 8 or Windows 10, you can access the recovery feature by holding down the shift key while clicking the restart button. This will bring you to a menu with the option to “reset” your computer. For Windows 8 laptops, it’ll usually give you two options - a refresh, or a reset. A refresh will do a fresh install of Windows 8 on your laptop while keeping your files intact, meaning no backup necessary. However, I always recommend backing up any important files beforehand just in case anything bad happens during the procedure. A reset will do a fresh install of Windows 8 without conserving any of your files. For Windows 10 laptops, it’s a bit less confusing than Windows 8. You will be given the option to perform a reset but at the second screen, it will ask you if you want to keep your files. You can decide what you want to do from there on.Once the procedure starts, it should take anywhere from 20 minutes - an hour depending on the performance of your laptop.

You simply run the set of restore disks that you were instructed to create when the computer was new. Win7 is on those disks. If you didn't create those disks, and now your computer needs to been set back to what you are calling factory settings, you will first need to purchase a Win7 installation DVD and install it. You will then need to download all necessary drivers. Because the new installation will require that your hard drive be formatted, all other data such as programs and personal files will be lost.
