How To Save Money For A Laptop

Can this laptop be saved?

I have a Gateway laptop with windows xp. I turned it on and got a blue screen. I couldn't get it to do anything so I did a system recovery. That completed, but when it tried to set up windows, it froze up. It was detecting and installing drivers and froze. I tried an emergency recovery cd, but it doesn't detect and run cd's. Can anything fix this?

Can you save money by buying a "no-OS" laptop?

Retailers who let you customize a laptop often include "no operating system" as an option, at the very least if you ask for as much specifically when ordering by phone if the option is not given on the website.I've taken advantage of this option for every laptop I've purchased for myself for at least the last decade, and it's usually saved me anywhere from $50 to $200 off the cost of the laptop, depending on how much the manufacturer wanted to mark up the cost of the operating system. It's common enough for manufacturers to mark up the cost of the operating system the laptop comes with, which means you can usually save some small amount of money by requesting no operating system and then separately purchasing the OS to install yourself. The trade-offs there are that you need to understand how to install an operating system (or coerce a friend or family member to do it for you), and you need to track down and install drivers for all of your hardware yourself, but you also end up with a machine free of the usual bloatware that manufacturers love to include with the laptop, e.g. trial versions of anti-virus software and useless "[manufacturer] Experience"-type applications.Of course, in my case, I've always proceeded to install a free distribution of Linux, so I very rarely pay for the operating systems I use. That means that the "no operating system" option becomes direct savings.

Should I buy a laptop or save up for a car?

I have enough money to buy a laptop right now, or I could save up to buy a truck.

I'm in college, it's my first year. I'm going to be going into science and business.
I don't drive right now, and I don't have my license. Oh, I'm 16.

I'm torn between the two options and I needed some opinions.

Can I save money by buying laptop without SSD and adding it? I have the same question for other easily upgraded components like RAM etc.

Yes!SSDs are perfect drop in replacements for hard disks.Just make sure you can do the replacement. Replacing an hard disk can range between really easy, just a few screws, or be unnecessarily hard, like requiring specialized pentalobe screws, irrimediably tearing the laptop case or requiring soldering.Same for RAM, but before check if the motherboard can support it.For example a 349$ laptop for home useRAM & SSD Upgrades | ASUS X540LA | Crucial.comAs expected is compatible with a 8Gb ram upgrade, which would make it a good to use 8Gb laptop. The upgrade of RAM would cost 50–70€.Searching a bit on youtube I found a disassembly video showing how to replace HDD and RAM. The procedure would take 30 minutes. The ram is this one. Swap with the 8Gb bank and voilà.Lastly how much we saved with the RAM+SSD upgrade?A Samsung 850EVO SSD 256Gb costs 95€ from Amazon, the RAM 50€.So your laptop costed 344+95+50=489, but you also have 4gb of ram you can resell for 20€ on E-Bay, and a 500Gb HDD you can use for bulk storage, worth about 30€.The upgraded version of the laptop from Asus is 777€, so the difference is 288€.Of course the upgraded has a i5 instead of an i3, which in my opinion isn’t worth all the difference; Intel itself quotes the i5 worth 80€ more of the i3.In conclusion, you can save about 200€ by taking a low end laptop and upgrading it to a mid range laptop.

I don't have any money and my laptop sucks, what should I do?

Sit back and take a break ☺.Find the actual cause. If it is due to some hardware problem you should take your laptop to the service center.Try scanning your laptop with your antivirus software. If there exist some malicious programs, they can cause some serious issues to your laptop.Uninstall those unwanted application form your laptop. If you are using Windows. Take a look at your task manager. Find which apps and services are consuming the major portion of your RAM and processor. If you couldn't find anything suspicious try reinstalling your operating system.Few days before my desktop became super slow. I found a Windows system process (Windows host service.. something like that) was consuming nearly 100 percentage of my cpu. I googled it and found a solution to that.

How do you get money to buy a computer or laptop?

I’m not sure you can just “get money” to buy something, but you may be able to get a computer or laptop. If you are working for a company that uses computers, you may be able to convince them they will benefit from your having a home computer or laptop. If you want to buy a laptop you could try what I did - went to a little local computer “geek” store and bought a reconditioned used laptop. Ask if you can make payments. It was very reasonable and I’m typing on it right now.Sell something you already have, perhaps at someone else’s yard sale or through friends. If you belong to a church or other religious or service organization, such as Elks, Lions Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, ask if there is a way they can help you get the machine you’re interested in. Hope you have a good reason for wanting it (not playing video games, for example). If you are completely without income, talk to social service groups to find resources that might be able to donate a used machine to you.Put your need on a Facebook page and ask for some contributions from friends, a small amount from each.Does your family usually gift you for birthdays or holidays with money? You could try asking for a lump sum ahead of time. Then they wouldn’t have to give you anything all year (or two).Look on Craigslist for free computers. They may be older, or not in working condition, but you can have them updated/repaired if they fit the job. Of course, you’ll have to get some money together to have the repairs done by qualified people.Check with local schools. Sometimes they give away outdated computer equipment as donations to the community. You’ll have to show indigent status probably - is that the case?

*Ask neighbors, friends, family, anybody if you can mow their lawns, pull weeds, water plants, anything that they need help with
*Sell stuff you dont ever use. Sell it in yard sales, ebay, amazon, or sell cool toys and stuff to your friends.
*Make a lemonade stand
*Open up a savings account in your bank. and yes you can open one at age 12. It's a great way to save the money you've earned
*Wash cars for people
*Ask your guardians if you can help with extra household chores
*I'm sure there's laptops that are out there for a cheaper price, but if thats the computer you're after then good luck! Walmart might have some cheaper laptops. Keep that in mind!
