How To Set Friendly Network Name Of Android Computer

Can anyone recommend a good tablet for kids?

I bought the Meep! for my daughter, opened it up Christmas Day, couldn't connect to their servers to change any of the parental controls so apart from the angry birds game (and a few others pre-installed) she was pretty disinterested, i decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, after 4-5 days they had fixed most of their server problems and I continued to install apps from google play and bought a memory card so I could put some music and videos on there for her! Still not 100% working it was a lot more usable for her so I finally handed it over and let her play, within a few hours the power button broke and will no longer turn on at all! And I'm not the only one this has happened to (as detailed on their Facebook page).

Whilst it was working here were a few of the other bad points I noted:

Although the parent suggested website list was a good idea, the lack of flash renders most kids sites useless (I know this will change as more sites switch to HTML 5) flash can be installed but the instructions are written by another user posted on the Meep! Facebook page (not Meep!'s website) and its quite a tiresome process

The user interface is not the most intuitive; my daughter is used to stealing mine and the wife's iPhone's or grandparents iPads so the scroll wheel icons on the left is a lot let user friendly than a screen full of icons

Anyway this is only my own experience and I do feel a little disappointed with the gadget as I thought it would be the answer to my always missing iPhone!

I'm now at an impasse myself as what to replace it with because the Nabi 2 which was my other (more expensive) choice has apparently had many similar issues

All these points can be seen on both the Meep! And the Nabi Facebook page:

Hope this helps and if anyone has had a good tablet experience I'd welcome some advice

How do I stream a Windows PC to an Android TV?

If you have a Windows 10 OS in your PC follow these steps.Ensure that both the Android TV and and your PC are connected to the same WiFi network. In your Android TV open the Screen Mirroring page. The option should be available by default amongst the app tiles in the home screen. In your PC, click the speech bubble icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. In the Windows action box, click the Connect option. You should be able to see your Android TV in the list of devicesClick on the TV in the list to attempt a connection.Another way to share media from your PC would be to share a drive or folder for everyone from windows. Then use a file explorer such as ES File Explorer to access the shared LAN drive.Yet another way to stream content would be to install a streaming software such as Plex in your PC and share media with it. You can then use Plex for Android TV or VLC to access and play the streams.Hope this helps.

Help me update my Android?

You can upgrade your phone through the official manufacturer's website. In that case you may find a very user-friendly interface that would help you through the process step-by-step.
Your device is quite old and probably runs Android 2.2 that is quite old. The most recent update is to Android 2.3.3 and I there is no reason to believe that that would be it's final official update.

However, you can get much more out of your phone by upgrading to some unofficial firmware. Mostly these updates include many tweaks and features that are unavailable in the official update. It might even upgrade your battery life, your Wifi reception and your call quality. It wont be so easy to update manually, but highly recommended if you know a friend who knows how. Eventually it all comes to reading internet tutorials and carefully following instructions.
There's a portable android version called Cyanogenmd. I just looked it up for you and found an available version for your device.
First you should backup all of your data (e.g Photos, SMS, Call log, MMS, Ringtones etc...)
It is highly recommended to fully recharge the device prior to the update.
The next thing would be to flash a different "recovery" to your device.
After that is done, all you need to do is to download a firmware (Each firmware is made for a specific model. Don't attempt to flash a version built to a different device!), boot into recovery and install if, by following some instructions.

Here are some tutorials relevant for your device:

What is the difference between ROOT and NON-ROOT android device?

Let's use the easiest method to explain this... the iPhone way!

A rooted Android device is basically like a jailbroken iPhone. You can gain full control of the phone and do whatever you want to the phone's software and hardware.

An unrooted Android device is basically like an unjailbroken iPhone. When you get it brand new out of the box, it's pretty much unrooted. And it's only rooted if the user wants to with certain softwares over the computer. You won't have much control of course, but you can still do a lot.

You can install apps by simply downloading them off your computer through certain websites and then copy and paste them into your Android device with a USB cable. After that, use a file manager (download one if you don't have one) and then find the installer (a .apk file) and let it install.

Private Internet Access VPN, can you review this service?

I just heard about the new "Six Strikes" Program and I've been trying to find a way around it for a few days. I've considered purchasing a few months with a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service or an anonymous proxy. I ran across a website with a top 10 of vpns and I found a program called Private Internet Access, it was 3 on the top 10. Does anybody know more about this program?
