How To Set The Size Of The Picture On A Comcast Cable Box

How can I connect a set top box to a laptop through an HDMI cable?

Most of the answers here are only half rightIt is true that the HDMI port you find on laptops are output only, they do not accept HDMI inputWhat is not true however is the “fact” that it’s impossible, it is indeed possible to get HDMI input on a laptop…. You just need extra (external) hardwareWhat you need is something called a “capture device”, in this case, you need an HDMI capture device, many of these capture devices exist on the market and are widely used by YouTubersFirst, you need to make sure your laptop can support HDMI capture devices, HDMI capture devices require a high speed data connection, if your laptop has USB 3.0/.1 or Thunderbolt, you should be fine, FireWire may also be a possibility, but most laptops that support FireWire may be too old to support HDMI input reliably (I will explain why later)Next, you need to find an HDMI capture device, look for the brand Happauge or Elgato, Elgato sells HDMI capture devices as “Game Capture Devices” (these are the devices YouTubers usually use) as their main use is for streaming content from a game console like a PS4 or Xbox One which only support HDMI outputRest assured that while they are listed as “Game Capture Devices” they are not limited to working with game consoles, they also work fine with Blu-Ray players, DVRs and almost anything that has HDMI output, the only thing you need to look for is if they support HDCPOne device that may work for you is the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S, it uses USB C, but also comes with a USB C to USB A cable allowing you to use it with a standard USB 3.0 portGame Capture HD60 S | elgato.comThere is also a USB 2.0 version of this too, and this USB C version may semi-work with USB 2.0 when using the C to A cable, though keep in mind USB 2.0 is slower, which can either cause a delay or lower resolution, just keep that in mind

Can coaxial cables carry HD signal?

Yes, coaxial cables, specifically, RG-6 carries a high def signal very nicely. However, I have to say that a coax doesn't carry the same sort of signal a HDMi or component cable carries so your question is sort of an apples and oranges thing. These cables are not at all interchangable and I am not real sure exactly what you mean by your question. For example, if you have Dish Network and you are talking about hooking a Tv up with an coaxial cable, then you are talking about a Dish Network TV 2 setup and you will not get a high def picture, but there is nothing you can do for TV 2 to get a high def picture. So there is a lot of detail anyone needs before they can answer your question accurately

You do have to laugh at the responders who say no. I wonder how they would explain how my Directv high def system works...
LOL!!

I got a cable box from Comcast, why does the picture not fill my screen?

First, determine whether your TV has a 720p or a 1080p screen (check the owner's manual). Then, go into the the setup menu on the Comcast receiver and find the section where you change the native resolution. The choices should be 480i, 720p, and 1080i.

If you have a 720p TV, set it to 720p. If it's a 1080p TV, set it to 1080i (there is no 1080p in broadcast television).

Your Comcast receiver will now deliver the optimum resolution and picture size for all programs on all channels.

Note that old movies and syndicated TV programs were filmed in 4:3, so you will probably have the blank areas on the two sides. That's not a bad thing. Anything you do to change it will either distort the picture horizontally or crop out the left and right sides of the image. You're better off watching such programs with the blank areas.

With old movies filmed in some variation of a wide screen format, the picture may show up as a "letterbox" image--blank areas on all 4 sides. You can increase the picture size on your TV to fill the screen, and that's usually okay. With extra-wide movie formats like Cinemascope, you'll still have thin blank areas at the top and bottom. Again, that's not a bad thing as explained above.

Samsung LN-T3242H HDTV picture settings...?

Hi all, I recently got a Samsung LN-T3242H LCD HDTV and I'm having a lot of trouble making the picture in its optimal settings so that the HD channels will LOOK like HD channels... I'm using Time Warner Cable, and using component cables connecting the cable box to my TV... When the picture moves around on TV (like a NBA basketball game) it seems like it's very chippy and sort of fuzzy...

Also, the only picture sizes I can choose are 16:9, zoom 1, zoom 2, or 4:3... I want to choose wide fit so it'll fill the whole TV screen instead of having 2 black lines (bars) on the top and bottom like I'm watching a movie or something... Does this mean I have to get a HDMI cable to connect to my cable box and my TV?

Please help me out guys!! THANKS!!

HDMI vs Coax Cable?

I bought a Samsung LCD HDTV yesterday. I also bought a HDMI cable that would connect my MediaCom cable box to my TV.

I connected the two together using both the HDMI cable and an existing Coax cable. When I choose the source of HDMI, it is better picture clarity & sound, HOWEVER the picture is shrunk down to approximate 4:3.

When I swithc to the Coax, it fills the entire screen.

Both sources say that they are displaying in 16:9 mode. Am I doing something wrong or will my digital cable only show in the 4:3 mode?

Do HDMI to RCA cables work?

Like every other question: it depends.HDMI is a purely digital signal, so there has to be an active signal converter to change from HDMI to the analog signalling for RCA. There’s a couple ways it won’t work.I’ll bet there are companies selling HDMI cables with RCA connectors soldered at one end. They’ll look nice and be cheap but won’t work at all. There are a number of companies selling HDMI to RCA converters that work great as long as the HDMI signal isn’t encrypted. However those are only useful for a small number of HDMI sources. There are HDMI to RCA converters that have the decryption built in. These will do what you want, but they probably have to embed the Macrovision copy protection into the analog signal (at least in the USA).There are also HDMI to RCA converters that decrypt the digital signal and put out a clean analog signal. These are probably mostly illegal in the US, Canada and Europe since they bypass any copy protection.

Why will a magnet placed in front of a tv picture tube distort the picture?

It attracts the electron beam. The beam is initially aimed using an electromagnet at the rear.

Why is the picture quality on my samsung plasma poor?

i agree with pedro. also non hd pictures will look allot worse than hd picture. and how far back are you sitting from the screen manufacturers reccomend about four times the size of your screen so you have a 50" screen so four times that is 16 feet. so 16 feet from your screen is the ideal. but you can go alittle less. try that or standing farther away from the screen to see if that helps you might just have to move back. also try the preset picture settings the different picture settings like, standard, movie, vivid,. give you differnt picture options for your settup.
